It sounded easy when he said it like that. As if words could bring those thoughts to life just as easily. âIâmââ Colleen shrugged her shoulders. His solution, as much as it made sense, was just as easy for her to brush off. âYeah, Iâm not big on things like destiny.â She knew what he meant, that over time someone was bound to stumble upon something that worked for them. But Colleen still had a particular gripe with destiny.
River let out a hum as he heard the woman say that she wasnât big on destiny. âI, personally, got back and forth with such a concept. There are moments where things feel almost fated to happen...And times where I feel like a series of completely random events led to something happening.â River said after a moment of consideration.
@aldiluâ
âYou know, I always love when your kind comes into my establishment,â River said with a cheeky grin as he slid up next to the other man. River showed no signs of anything nefarious or hostile as he leaned against the bar of the club...Actually, HIS bar and HIS club. That was the great thing about having such a successful business...River could say basically anything he wanted inside of it, and he knew that no one would do shit to him for it. A quirk of his lips was the only tell of his amusement.Â
âBlood seems to always be around you guys...Along with a fight and entertainment,â River hummed as he lazily swirled the drink that he held in his hand lazily. The cocktail was sweet and right up his alley. âLet me guess...Youâre looking for someone here?â River asked with a wicked grin on his face.Â
brxghtestdayâ:
Need your blood. Definitely not good. âSucks to suck, vampire⊠Guy,â the Lantern stuttered, outstretched fist clenched even tighter as the green light from the ring flashed. âGuess Iâm supposed to thank you for that.â Yellow light faded into the edges of his vision, the chokehold light as he stood his ground against the new adversary. It was always like this with new dangers, something he couldnât possibly know the threat of right away. GLâs were usually quick to find information of intergalactic threats, but on Earth? On Earth, he was almost entirely on his own. It was even harder when the emotional cores that made a home in his head couldnât get a read on the guy. âSorry, no can do. Itâs my duty to protect this sector and this planet by default. That includes your ass, Dracula.â
A frown formed under the thick mask, white-lens covered eyes squinting against the verbal assault sent his way. His glare was locked onto the other⊠Until something moved out of the corner of his eye. His stance wavered only for a second, watching with an almost morbid fascination as the blood, or whatever was apparently left over, was lifted into the air. A⊠Blood bender? Hemokinetic? This was not going to be fun. Kyle took one harsh breath as he let the green glow of his ring create a protective barrier around him, floating above the pavement as his mind started to spin. Attack or defend? Fight or flight? He didnât get much time to consider his choices before the literal Blood-hammer started to come his way. Instinct told him to curl up, bringing his arms up to protect his face (just like Kilowog taught him, just like heâd seen in all those old Muhammad Ali matches heâd catch Guy watching) as the ring dug from his subconscious and created a shield to catch the weapon before it made impact. Damn, that guy had a swing.Â
âYeah,â he grunted, freeing one hand from the block, the green light swirling around the gauntlet, charging up a quick, distracting blast. âI figured youâd say something like that.â Aiming once again, he let loose the bolt of green light, a concentrated beam of Willpower, hoping that this fight wouldnât end with him joining those unfortunate to be laying on the street.Â
A brief glance of disgust came across Riverâs face as he heard the other manâs words. âVampire? Oh no...Those beings are sick perversions of me.â River said with a dark chuckle and a shake of his head. The other manâs stutter was the exact opposite of Riverâs confident, almost arrogant, voice as he looked at the other with a smirk. The outstretched fist couldnât help but seem rather silly to the ancient being. The magic-born man couldnât help but to chuckle when he heard the other man say that he heâs supposed to thank him. âOh no, child...Never thank me.â River warned with a grin.Â
And then? River struck. He didnât hold back either. Riverâs grin turned almost feral as he saw a protective barrier seem to form around the other man. âAh...Interesting...So youâll be able to put up quite a fight, I suppose,â River hummed with a slight tilt of his head. Looking entirely way to angelic and innocent for what he was holding in his hands and the wicked gleam in his eyes. âI wonder if that means your blood will feel any better?â River asked with a chuckle.Â
But as he was chuckling, the other made his countermove. A grunt of surprise escaped the magic experimentâs mouth as he found himself being flung backwards, and a wicked snarl morphed onto his face as he pushed himself up. The expression on his face promising nothing but torment and pain. âYouâre definitely going to regret that, bug,â River promised with a growl as he charged forward once more. Only this time, he suddenly brought the top of his blood hammer down onto the ground so he could flip over the handle while still gripping it. Using the momentum to his advantage, River let out a battle cry as he suddenly lifted the hammer up and tried to bring it straight down on the other, the force much more powerful with the momentum and Riverâs bloodlust clear in his eyes.Â

âYou really believe that? Balance can be found that easily?â Maybe it was just will that did it, but Colleen found that her mind was all too often dropped into a vat of emotions. Overwhelming and quick to overpower any rational thought. âHow do you balance the outside forces, then?â Colleen asked, leaning into the bar as she looked at him. âIâm not trying to argue, promise.â
âI never said it would be easy to look for a healthy balance,â River pointed out with a chuckle. âItâs going to take some trial and error. But I think that if someone keeps at it? Over time, theyâre destined to finally find the correct balance for themselves.â That part River said confidently, a firm nod following after his words.Â

Colleen tried to laugh. âI donât think anything in my life has ever been balanced.â Maybe during meditation when she reset herself â maybe when she was training with Danny⊠but it rarely felt like things were ever perfectly balanced. Where she didnât feel like she was about to be tossed off the side.
âSometimes all it takes is a little intuitive and nudge.â River said with a shrug. âI donât know your life, so I canât exactly offer you any advice other than the stuff I know from my own experiences.â River said with a thoughtful hum. âBut from what Iâve experienced a healthy balance tends to almost always be achievable. Sometimes you just have to get a bit more creative.â

âIt is,â Colleen agreed easily, looking down at the glass in her hand, wondering if anyone bought that it was something other than water. âAnd itâs not as fun,â Colleen agreed again, looking back up at him. âBut there isnât much choice. Itâs either pretend nothing is wrong and walk around with my head empty or look at the things I donât want to and⊠let them clutter up my head.â She had spent too long not looking at anything directly when she was in the hand, she wasnât about to do that to herself again.
River hummed as he heard the other womanâs words. âThat is quite the conundrum,â River said as a thoughtful expression on his face. âBut is there not things such as an equal balance? Or hobbies to help improve your âquality of lifeâ.â River asked, using air quotes when he said quality of life with a smirk on his face.Â

As much as Kyle was the oath-sworn protector of the Space Sector Earth resided in, he was⊠Finally having fun with his apparent vacation from Oa. He started spending more nights on the pavement instead of in the air. As much as he loved flying, floating, taking care of the petty criminal every now and again with a big glowing Gundam, it was nice to take it easy, breathe in the City night life, meet some new people heâd never thought heâd meet on the planet. Heâd just finished up a round of laughs and beers at an arcade bar heâd passed a couple of times from the sky, lost a lot of quarters to pinball and was stock full of overly-thematic finger foods. He hummed along to the theme songs of the arcade cabs that were leaving pixel shaped sparkles in the back of his mind. Maybe heâd use one of the old canvases heâd nearly scrapped to make some sort of-
The Lantern startled himself at the sight of⊠A person laying in the middle of the sidewalk. He easily passed over them, not thinking too much about it⊠Until he saw another. And another. One by one until they didnât look like random occurrences so much anymore. His happy mood shattered as he shifted in a blink into his black, white, and glowstick green uniform, his right hand held in a tight fist, aimed and ready for any suspicious individual that mightâve caused this sort of catastrophe. Please, donât let it be Major Force-
No. Not quite. And thank Ganthet for that. âSorry, dude. No can do.â Clear admission of the deed done, check. Sass, check. Textbook baddie, it seemed. If he had the time, Kyle might try to pull up the Galactic database, see if he could get some quick info on the new guy⊠Even if they seemed to be a bit lacking on the Earth Threats category. Kyle tilted his head back to the street, to the mess that people were gonnaâ wake up to. His own mind flashed back to the fateful night, during his first week of handling the ring, to finding-
â⊠You really think you can ask that after youâve clearly caused a disturbance like this?â If he wasnât so freaked, he might have smirked, tossed back some of that snark like it was a boomerang. His outstretched fist flexed, the ring flashing brighter as he readied his mind for quickfire. âIâm going to have to ask you to come quietly.â
River blinked as he saw the person who joined him. It was taking everything in the ancient being not to laugh at the mixture of green and black. Honestly...If there was some yellow in there? He would have lost it because the other was coming dangerously close to looking like a high lighter. Although River supposed that they do make green high lighters, so the other could also still be held accountable for that. Honestly...Whatâs a few dead bodies compared to that outfit?Â
âAw, man,â River said with a sigh and a shake of his head. âIâm quite full...I donât necessarily need your blood right now. And I do hate to waste such valuable substance.â River said casually, an air of aloofness around him. As if they were merely sharing a drink and he was telling a tale. âBut I suppose it canât be helped.â River sighed as he looked at the other man. âYou sure you donât wanna just walk the other way? Things are bound to get messy if you donât.â
Hearing the other manâs words, River couldnât help but to laugh. âDamn...Cliche much?â River asked with a big grin on his face. âUnfortunately love, Iâm always down to get loud and wild.â River said with a grin as he waved his hand. Blood started streaming out of the bodies that littered the ground and took shape of a warhammer in his hand. While it may be made out of blood, River knew that if anyone who wasnât him tried to wield it the blood wouldnât react so nicely.Â
âJust so you know, Iâm not going to be paying for the property damage.â River informed the other before lunging forward, bringing the hammer around in a horizontal sweep. If it connected? The other might be surprised that the blood didnât feel like liquid at all, but instead the strongest of steel!
wonderbornâ:

Dianaâs dark eyebrows pulled together, her eyes sad when it was clear thereâd be no option but to fight. âI will not give my name to a man who fights to gain respect.â Her voice was strong, it was the same voice sheâd used to rally entire armies for thousands of years.Â
When he leaped up, she ducked out of the way. The lightning buzzed through her entire being, letting her leap across the room and land in a ready position. âPleaseâŠwe donât have to do this!â If she continued to try, maybe heâd hear her and the senseless violence would stop.Â
In the next second, she lunged forward in one move, using the broken pipe to sweep his feet out from under him and flip backwards to land on her feet again. By the Gods, she didnât want to admit it but it felt good to be back in action again.Â
âHow disappointing,â The ancient man said with a sigh and a shake of his head. âA nameless grave it is, then,â River commented as he watched the woman for a second before he made his move. Despite how large the warhammer of blood was, it felt like just a feather to River. Of course if someone else tried to lift it? His magic would guarantee it would be less than pleasant.
Hearing the womanâs words caused him to roll his eyes. âHow many times do I have to explain myself to you, lady?â River asked with a huff as he paused to raise an eyebrow at her. âYou may not have to do this. But I? I certainly do.â River growled.
However, before he could move? She was already making a move. River grunted as his back made contact with the floor when the woman used the pipe to swipe his feet out from under him. âNifty,â River complimented lightly before manipulating the blood to push him back up into a standing position. âLets see how you handle this!â With a flick of his wrist, a few small needles would fly towards the woman. Of course, these two were made out of the little blood that the woman spilled during her fight. But it was just a distraction, trying to lure the woman into the perfect position for him to lunge forward and try to swing at her with a horizontal arch of his hammer.

Colleen was sitting on the other side of the bar, a glass of water in front of her that she was pretending was something else because she needed to blend in. But the man a few seats away noticed her, and she truthfully, hadnât been staring at him but rather the group behind him. (She was still following those kids. Still trying to figure out just what they were trying to do.) Her attention shifted when the man addressed her, calling her out for her staring and Colleen offered a polite smile. Awkward. âI wasnât looking at you,â she confessed. âI was just⊠staring into space.â Lost in her own thoughts and lost trying to decipher what was happening at the next table over.
But then a real question that wasnât hidden under layers of ego. âYeah,â she said, taking a sip of her water and wishing again, it was something else. âItâs been a long few months. Minds a little crowded.â
Riverâs gaze lingered on the woman when she said that she wasnât looking at him and that her mind had wondered off...Something that River wasnât sure he believed. Her eyes had seemed alert...Not unfocused or out of it like they tend to do when people are âstaring off into spaceâ. Granted, he supposed not everyone does that...But still...It seemed rather odd and unlikely. But River decided not to press the issue.Â
âTaking care of oneâs self is important, even if itâs something simple as having a relaxing day in bed or enjoying a drink,â The young-looking man lectured with a grin. âLiving through life isnât nearly as fun if your mind is a little crowded, as you put it.â
I NEED A WARRIORâS BLOOD.
âUgh, finally,â It felt like the young-looking man hasnât been able to relax and unwind for decades. Ever since escaping that temple, River had to focus on getting everything together and in order. Now...River actually had a few days off to just relax and he still found himself at his club. Only this time he was on the customerâs side of the counter. âYou know, good looking...Iâm not one of the strippers here. So staring at me isnât going to make my clothes disappear if thatâs what you were hoping for.â River joked with a smirk as he took a drink of his cocktail, his eyes shifting over to observe the person who had been eyeing him after he made his comment.
âSomething on your mind?â
