How does Wisteria protect herself from the wildlife?
āwell, most creatures think me too big to deal with, or are easy enough to escape⦠on occasion, Iāve even been able to make a sort of⦠agreement, with a few, but those cases arenāt as frequent as they once were. not with how much more they rely on instinct now than before⦠however, this doesnā mean Iām not physically capable. in fact, it was thanks to my strength I even met these two! Louie was passed out and one of those bird-headed snakes⦠what did you name them again?ā Wisteria had turned to the captain with the query, trying to recall the new names for the new creatures as would be understood by him and viewers.
āThe Burrowing snagret? frightful beasts, those are.ā the response was quick, and said with a smile.
āyes! it was luck that I happened to be in the area, reallyā¦Ā it was the reflection of light off your helmet that caught my eye enough for me to see your humanoid form.ā She had started talking to the person behind the camera, without much thought as to who was listening. there was aĀ grunt of affirmation to her talking.
āHumanoidā¦?ā it had been said under Olimarās breath, probably not meant for the camera to be picked up, had he meant to say it at all.
āOf course, about eh same time I registered what Louie maybe, one of those⦠snagrets saw him as an easy meal. I couldnāt pass up my own chance at finally talking with someone again so⦠without much thought, I flew forward and clasped its beak shut with my own arms.ā
ābut⦠well, birds were what I used to understand the best, back when they were prevalent. so⦠I reached out to the avian side of the mutant. Iām glad that, even if it didnāt truly understand like it once could have, enough to not force itās beak back open. the main reason Iād managed to close it had been a surprise if I am to be honest. Iām not sure if it understood my plea for it to find something else, or just my desperation for this to be someone enough for it to leave but⦠either way, it went back under the ground. I had simply hung around, after that, waiting for Louie to wake up. i⦠I clung to the fact I could see his chest moving, but afraid I was too late anyways. but⦠it hadnāt been a secluded area, and we were both out in the open. so after tapping him some, to find no response, I picked him up to find someplace a bit more secure, should night fall.ā
āthe place I found seemed mostly empty. I was able to bloom a couple of dandelions just enough to support his head- well, I had thought the helmet was his head, at the time. and I found a dying leaf to cover him with since the air was a little chilled that day. I had stayed in the area, making sure it was truly safe. of course, waking in unfamiliar terrain, with someone much larger than you nearby⦠I just had to hope he could eat fruit since that was what was easy to obtain. I reasoned the fact I did no harm, and the presence of food would be enough to make myself less intimidating for when he woke.ā
āā¦apparently, it wasnāt enough. Louie, I know you are trying to be behind the camera, and not the focus but I have to ask⦠what did I do that made me seem so frightening still?ā
the camera never turned to reveal Louieās voice, but his deep voice was easy enough to hear.Ā āthis planet is dangerous, and you were large. no reason to think you were any different from any other creature around.ā
āLouie,Ā you neednāt be so⦠blunt. but I will admit, Wisteria, your height over us can be intimidating sometimes.Ā and Louie did recognize you when we happened to encounter each other again, and by then it had sunk in youād done no harm! so it all worked out, right?ā
āIf you donāt mind though⦠Louie never really has told me about this first encounter between the two of you. so while we know how the story ends, and it may not directly been asked by someone else⦠perhapsĀ youād be willing to finish the story off for me?ā Olimarās gentle smile was enough to set any downtrodden moods away, it seemed, as his request perked the fairy right up.
āOh! sure, I have no issue with that, Captain Olimar! not that thereās much left⦠I had found a cherry- uh, the berry fruit about as big as you, red, skinny brown stem? I canāt remember what you called it, but I had found a cherry and set it nearby, and basically⦠hung out, until Louie woke up. I stayed a small distance away, but I was watching the entire time. I hadnāt had such hope of actually talking with someone since I first managed to leave where I was hidden when everything changed⦠when Louie first woke up, he didnāt notice me, but found the cherry easily enough. I was trying to not startle him, so I stayed where I was sitting as he began to tear into itā¦ā
((Gif wonāt work, so click here to see it))
āI only saw her after Iād pushed my helmet back on after tearing off a solid bite from cupidās grenade. surprised the crap out of me.ā Louieās interjection wasnāt expected, but it wasnāt unwelcomed either.
āI only managed to say a simple greeting before you passed out again. right onto the cherry. I suppose I had fluttered closer too⦠I was making sure no creature had found where we were one day since I couldn'tā make you stirr, when I got you had just⦠vanished. and.. took the cherry with you. I know now you ran, thinking it an opportunity to escape, but in the moment⦠I thought something had come and got you in the end. And thatās⦠kind of all there is to tell about that.ā
āWell, weāre glad you were around to help. thank you for saving my coworker, Wisteria. while weāre on the topic, thereās another anonymous query here⦠thatās on a similar note.ā Rather than end the broadcast there, Olimar continued on, with one more small topic.
āThis has been covered a little in the previous discussion, but for myself⦠I also noticed that she had a rather hocotation form to her, thought eh size was intimidating upon that first encounter. I likely would have been more cautious if Louie hadnāt surprised me with his two sentences saying he recognized her, and that she may have tried to help him.ā
and from behind the camera once more, in his deep voice was the ever curtĀ āFirst meeting I was scared. the second encounter Iād thought things over and was a bit less terrified.ā
after realizing that was⦠All Louie was going to say on the matter, Olimar clapped his gloved hands together with a bright smile.Ā āThank you all for tuning in for this broadcast! I must apologize for the delays on getting it to you, weāve had a fewā¦technical difficulties. but! those have been cleared up and recordings should become a bit more regular from here on out!ā
