NEYSA VEENA / 24 / SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Neysa is an aspiring fashion designer and she runs a fairly popular online store of her clothes which was how Ada met her. They met when Ada was 15 and Neysa was 20 after Ada stumbled her store. In fact, their relationship started off strictly professional when Ada wrote about Neysa’s clothes on her blog and it slowly blossomed into a friendship based on a shared passion for social activism and shared love iconic 90s music.
Neysa strongly advocates for body positivity and mind positivity and makes sure models she hires for her clothes are diverse. Her line of nude tights is one of her best selling products.
Several pieces of Ada’s closet are exclusive Neysa Veena originals, a gift from Neysa who sees Ada as the younger sister she never had despite the fact that Ada is the most mature of the bunch. An only child, Neysa is highly amused by Ada’s stories and the ‘drama’ she has to deal with on a daily basis. Her key piece of advice for Ada is to go with the flow. She’s still waiting for Ada to follow it though.
Currently, Neysa is working as a designer for an independent film being directed and produced by a close childhood friend of hers.
DERICK AZMEH / 22 / DUBAI, UAE
To the public, Derick is the son of a hotel mogul who owns a broad portfolio of hotels and resorts in several countries. However, the business is headquartered in Dubai where Derick was raised and being groomed to takeover the family business.
He has two completed webcomics under his belt and recently started a new one last summer. Derick signs his webcomics under a pen name. His family doesn’t know about his webcomics and believes he’s only using the tablet and equipment they bought him to create blueprints for future/potential buildings.
Ada (14 at the time) first learned of Derick when she stumbled upon one of his old webcomics, a comedy about a trio of crime fighting rabbits (Give him a break, he was 13 when he wrote it). Loving his first comic, she decided to read his newer works. She eventually followed him on Tumblr (till they both deleted their blogs). What started off as casual discussions about DC and Marvel grew to Ada becoming his closest confidant.
He’s a hopeless romantic, so much that he loves hearing about the love lives of the others in the group. The ironic part is how bad Derick is at following his own advice and how Ada has become the person to psych him up before a date..
RAFAELE CAVALLO/ 20 / SIENA, ITALY
Rafaele and Derick became friends when Rafaele was 18 and spending his summer in Rome working in one of the hotels owned by Derick’s family. Derick was the one who later introduced Ada and Rafaele after he walked in on a Skype call between Ada, Derick, Santiago, and Neysa.
At the beginning, he felt out of place with the group due to all of the eccentric personalities and conversations till Ada approached him about learning Italian. She promised in exchange she would strengthening the IT infrastructure of his family’s horse business. He denies the teasing from Derick, but he might had developed a small crush on Ada that summer especially after he learned what a sports nut she is.
The Cavallo family is famous for representing their contrade, Oca, in the Palo di Siena. He’s not a fan of being called an Italian Stallion though and will fight you if you do. Despite coming from a long line of jockeys, Rafaele’s first love is fencing and has been training for the individual foil event held at the Summer Olympics since he was 10. He hopes to represent Italy this year at the Olympics in Rio.
Despite the unclarity in his future, Rafaele plans to become a journalist in a future.
SANTIAGO ISHIDA / 19 / SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
After Princess, Santiago is Ada’s oldest friend. Ada and Santiago first met when they were 10 year old on Neopets (a secret that they keep to themselves). It took them a year of talking on Neopets forums before they exchanged emails.
They have been there for every major moment in each others’ lives and neither of them plan to change that. Ada and Santiago text each other constantly to the point that it feels like they’re physically next to each other.
After her friendship with Princess dissolved, Santiago became Ada’s best friend. He doesn’t know what happened between her and Princess, but he offered his shoulder like any good friend would when she called him crying about her fallout with Princess.
From a young age, Santiago loved the stars and the stories about the constellations in the sky. He has a tattoo of the Cygnus constellation on his arm and hopes to one day to become an astronaut.
He knows a boatload of math puns.
LUNA CRUX / 22 / LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Ada met Luna last year when she had to make a stop in Las Vegas before spending her summer in Washington DC for a leadership fellows program. Somebody had managed to steal Ada’s luggage from the airport and Luna had helped her find it.
At the time, Luna was working as a waitress at a nearby cafe along with also being a small time con artist (mainly in pickpocketing). She argued that it was training for when she comes the next big name magician in Vegas to Ada.
Although Ada didn’t immediately warm up to Luna like she did with the others, she couldn’t deny that there was a lot that she could learn from Luna who loved nothing more than to show off. Who better to learn how to solve a heist from than a con artist. Ada and Luna still butt heads with each other about things, but they both couldn’t deny that they had learned a lot from each other.
Ada actually spent her spring break this year hanging out with Luna and Derick who flew in for the weekend in Vegas. She will deny helping Luna and Derick by using card counting techniques if asked. However, Adeline Utonium is banned from all of the casinos in Las Vegas now and several organizations received donations from an anonymous source that week.
