The Suite Life of Zack & Cody Season 1, Episode 10 "Cody Goes to Camp"
The Matriarch Isnât the Villain. Sheâs the Mirror
I often hear a discourse where Celine in K-pop Demon Hunters, Alma in Encanto and Ming in Turning Red are seen as vilains. Theyâre the ones who restricted the younger generation, hurt them, and are ultimately responsible for their pain, trauma and self-doubt. Theyâre framed as the real villains of the story. But Iâd like to differ.
These are stories of intergenerational trauma. They are women who survived, repressed, and tried to protect their families the only way they knew how: through control, perfectionism, and emotional suppression.
And yet, when the next generation begins to reclaim joy, freedom, softness â they become the obstacle. Not because theyâre bad people, but because theyâre scarred. Their minds cling to survival strategies, unable to recognize that the environment has changed.
Alma is still stuck fleeing the colonizers.
Ming is still afraid of her true self.
Celine believes that fear and mistakes must be hidden.
Itâs not about hating these characters. Itâs about how unprocessed trauma twists love into control. How survival, unexamined, turns into rigidity. These women were never given space to process their own pain and they project it onto their daughters and granddaughters.
And hereâs something we rarely say enough: intergenerational trauma can create toxic patterns but that doesnât always mean there was abuse or conscious harm. Even when their love becomes suffocating or controlling, these women are not necessarily âabusive parents.â They are daughters of silence, fear, and sacrifice. And they were never taught another way. Itâs important to make that distinction, especially in a world that often pushes a binary, punitive reading of family dynamics.
Theyâre the product of a generation that was told to endure. But endurance without healing becomes its own kind of violence.
Whatâs powerful in these stories is that they donât end in vengeance. They end in confrontation and transformation. The confrontation is necessary: the younger generation refuses the silence. Refuses the shame. Refuses to carry a burden that wasnât theirs to begin with.
The house is destroyed in Encanto.
Mei accepts her full self.
So does Rumi.
And in the best cases, this confrontation allows the elder to soften too. Alma opens up. Ming listens. And Iâm hoping in the sequel, Celine will open too.
Maybe thatâs also why these stories speak so deeply to POC audiences. These arenât stories about cutting ties. Theyâre stories about how hard it is to transform them, to protect ancestral bonds while refusing to perpetuate inherited pain. In many racialized families, collectivity, loyalty, and intergenerational duty are sacred... even when they come at the cost of personal boundaries.
And sometimes, Western individualist frameworks read these tensions as dysfunction or villainy. But for us, theyâre just the difficult truth of growing up and trying to do better.
These women arenât villains. That would be too easy. They embody the fragile, necessary work of bringing change without breaking the thread. These stories are about refusing to inherit their pain without reflection. Because love, without accountability, is not enough.
These stories show us that each generation has something to learn from the next. And the new generation must also break free from the chains they inherited while preserving what is meaningfull.
But itâs not just their story.
One day, weâll be the older generation.
And weâll need to be humble enough to learn from the ones after us.
So donât be a fool.
We may be Mei, Rumi, or Mirabel today.
But tomorrow, we could be Ming, Celine, or Alma.
And when that time comes, weâll realize how hard it is to unlearn what once kept us safe.
So letâs have compassion for all these characters.
Because these stories show us not just how the cycle of generations works, but how it can make us better, stronger, and more connected... if weâre all willing to go through the change.

edit (07/08/25): Thanks to several kind Colombian commenters and reblogs, Iâve learned that the historical context shown in Encanto is more likely tied to the Thousand Daysâ War, a brutal civil war rather than direct colonial violence. I initially framed Abuelaâs trauma through the lens of colonialism, which was a mistake. The real context is deeply rooted in internal ideological conflict. As a South asian viewer, Iâm very grateful to those who shared insights ! I encourage readers to check the comments and reblogs for more historical nuance and brilliant perspectives đ§Ą

15. Linda: Just wonderful Daddy! Oh, I would like you all to meet my fiancée: Brian Sanders. Brian, this is my father: Peter, my sister: Keca and her husband: Tyler.
16. Peter (Shakes Brianâs hand): Itâs a pleasure to meet you, Brian.
17. Brian: Likewise, sir. (Turns to Linda) Dear, you never mentioned having a sister. Especially, one so lovely.
18. Keca (Uncomfortable): Thank you, Mr. Sanders. But my sister is much prettier than I. Â Â
19. Tyler (Whispers flirtatiously to Keca): I disagree.
20. Peter: Why donât we sit down and get to know one another. Unfortunately, I will not be joining you. I have some paper work I have to finish before tomorrow. (Walks out)
21. Keca: Linda, Brian how did you two meet?
22. Brian: My mother hosted a garden party to celebrate my sister: Ariellaâs sixteen birthday. Linda was one of the first girls to arrive, she was smart and kind-hearted. I asked Lindaâs permission to court her and she accepted. After a few outings together, I asked for her hand in marriage. Â
23. Keca: How, sweet. Iâm going to make us some tea in kitchen.

27. Brian: I work for my father, he owns a business that trades overseas. He expects me to take over soon and increase the family fortune.Â
28. Tyler: That sounds great, I have recently taken over my family business as well.
29. Brian: Interesting, is your family business involve education, scientific studies or politics?
30. Tyler: UmâŠItâs more entertainment. My family owns a circus.
31. Brian: (Laughs) Oh, youâre serious! So sorry! UmâŠthen... how did you meet Lindaâs sister?
32. Tyler: Funny story, I met Keca by accident. It was my first time working outside of the performance tent and my uncle who originally worked the cotton candy booth gave me no instructions. Keca was my first customer when the circus opened to the public. I struggled, but eventually made the cotton candy for her. At the same time, my shoe lace became undone and as I went to give Keca the candy, I tripped smashing the cotton candy onto her dress. Long story short, I apologized, took her out on a few dates then asked her to marry me.
33. Brian: What a story! You are lucky to have such a beautiful woman on your arm.
34. Tyler: But you do. Linda is beautiful donât you think?â
35. Brian: Donât get me wrong Tyler. Linda has some good qualities, but looks are not one. Now Keca, so stunning! It is astonishing that Linda is the favored daughter. With her blessed beauty, a woman like Keca could conquer high society. A woman like that is one I would do anything to have at my side.
36. Tyler (angry): What are you saying that if Keca wasnât married to me, you would have courted her instead?

83. Keca (looking around): Sheâs not here, her dress is, but itâs covered in (gasp) blood!
84. Peter: Tyler, call the authorities to remove the body. I will comfort, Keca.
85. Keca: No! We need to find Linda! (To Peter) Father, please let Tyler and I investigate.

89. Tyler: There are red marks around his neck.
90. Keca: His tie is missing, where is it?
91. Tyler: Not here, why does it matter?
92. Keca: The markings show a struggle from something being wrapped around the neck. But, these markings are deeper. I have seen this once when mother use to do fatherâs tie. If she did it too hard these marks appeared.
93. Tyler (excited): Then, whoever murdered Sanders has the tie!
94. Keca: And maybe knows where Linda is. Tyler, do you think sheâs alive?
95. Tyler: Of course I do, now letâs look at the wedding dress.
96. Keca: I donât know if I am able. You know I canât handle blood.

104. Tyler: Keca! I gathered a sample from the dress! Itâs not blood, but red wine!
105. Keca: Good work, Tyler. Look, there are dirty footprints in the kitchen leading from Lindaâs room to here. They are fresh, so the person who murdered Sanders was here recently. Unfortunately, there are no more prints as we walk out of the kitchen.
106. Tyler: That means the person came in for a moment. (To Keca) Hon, we have evidence on what happen to Sanders, but we need suspects.
107. Keca: Tyler, the only suspects are Father and Linda. (Angry) They are both innocent!
108. Tyler: Dear, Linda and Dad were the only ones nearby during the time Sanders was murdered. In addition, Linda is still missing. If she was the murderer, her guilt would lead her to run away.
109. Keca: Donât speculate! (Groans) Iâm going to look for more evidence.

115. Keca: I went outside to get some fresh air, when I found this. These are Lindaâs shoes, Father had given to her as an early wedding present and they are covered in dirt. (Cries) Oh, Tyler!
116. Tyler: Its ok, Keca. Come letâs get Peter and show him our evidence. I believe he said there is nothing wrong with giving up.
117. Keca (To herself): Father did say that didnât he? (To Tyler) Tell Father to meet us in his office.

120. Peter: So how is the investigation going?
121. Tyler: We are done actually and some evidence points to Linda being the murderer. Â
122. Peter: Well, if Linda is guilty, then we have no choice. The authorities must be called and Linda must be found. Since she committed first degree murder, Linda will be in jail for a few years.
123. Keca: We were not done talking, Father. Yes, some of the evidence points to Linda, but it doesnât mean she murdered Sanders. The only way Linda would kill Sanders is out of anger from learning he never really wanted to marry her. But, she didnât get the chance to find out and yet Linda is missing. Care to explain, Father?
124. Peter: What you saying, Keca?
125. Keca: You were supposed to tell Linda about Sanders and somehow he ends up dead. The evidence, first the dead body of Sanders was strangled by his own tie. There was red wine spilled on Lindaâs dress, dirty footprints in the kitchen and Lindaâs shoes that I found outside. Linda doesnât drink red wine and if Linda did, it would not be, while she is wearing white. The person I know who loves red wine is you, Father.
126. Peter: Youâre basing this off of speculation!
127. Tyler: Not speculation, but observation. I noticed your knuckles are red, how is that possible?
128. Peter: I did a lot of heavy lifting for the wedding!
129. Keca: You mean the one that you canceled? Â If I remember correctly Father you informed the guests not to come. And I believe it was so no one would be a witness to your deeds! You murdered Sanders and framed your own daughter in order to cover your tracks!
130. Peter (Laughs): That is ridiculous, you two! Why would I murder Sanders?
131. Tyler: For two simple reasons. First, Linda was getting married and you couldnât stand another one of your girls being taken away from you. Second, you were furious after we told you the harsh truth about Sanders and believed he wasnât fit to marry your Linda. I see how it happened, you went upstairs to tell Linda about Sanders. But, instead of finding her you found Sanders and strangled him to death.
132. Keca: Linda screamed once she saw the body, making you spill the red wine on the dress. You knocked Linda unconscious, while you took her shoes to frame her. And I assume my sister is locked inside her closet at this very moment.
134. Peter: You two are smart, I will give you that. Yes, I did do it. What else would a father have done, I devoted my entire life to protecting you and Linda. If protecting you meant committing murder then so be it!

Doogal Fanfiction Calamity
Ch. 4 Meeting Zeebad
As Stella opened her eyes the first thing that registered to her mind was the cold.
Looking around, it hit her that she was inside an ice cave. Stella shivered, trying to move her body but winced when she found that her hands were tied behind her back with thick robe. It didnât help that whoever did this made sure the woman was secured to a large icicle.
She pulled against the rope as memories from last night appeared in her mind. Stella and Doogal were ambushed, unfortunately the woman didnât get a good look at the attacker.
Although she had an idea of who it was and if Stella was correct. She needed to find Doogal and leave the cave.
âLook whose awake.â Â
Stella froze, her green eyes moving the voice in front of her. The sound of springs slowly approaching her. Icy blue eyes staring directly into her soul as the wizard circled the woman.
âStella Ambessa Jabari daughter of Royan Jabari the great wizard apprentice. It is a pleasure to finally meet you.â
The ice wizard muttered his eyes lingering on Stella. The woman frowned noticing Zeebad focusing on backside and ending toward her legs. Â
The display making her feel nothing but disgust.
âWish I could say the same but I canât to the man who nearly killed my father.â
Stella stated standing her ground. She couldnât appear weak in front of him.
Zeebad chuckled as he continued to circle the woman, admiring her long braids and shapely figure.
âI see Zebedee has told you all about me. Good, it saves time which I do not have.â
Zeebad said moving in front of Stella, smiling as he saw her struggle to move her hands. The woman only glared at the ice wizard, not showing any fear.
It reminded Zeebad so much of her father. Royan was unwavering, never showing any hint that he was intimated by an opponent. Â
It was what made the apprentice so dangerous.
âI am going to cut to the chase, sweetheart. Since I will be taking over the world, I will need a queen to rule over my frozen kingdom.â
Zeebad muttered reveling in Stellaâs shock expression. He grabbed her arm pulling her close to his body, icy breath hovering over her ear.
âA woman as beautiful as you would make a great queen. Imagine how much power you will be able to achieve. Furthermore, I could bring your parents back.âÂ
Zeebad stated carefully watching Stellaâs face going from disgust to utter shock.
âI could do this and more, but only if you tell me where the diamonds are.â
Stella glared once again, gritting her teeth. She then slammed her head into Zeebadâs nose. The wizard fell backwards, groaning in pain as he held his bruised nose.
âDonât you dare mention my parents you monster and if I would ever agree to rule the world with the likes of you! I also will never, ever tell you anything having to do with those diamonds!â Stella yelled watching as Zeebad stood his smile vanished into a deadly glare.
âI thought you would be an easy nut to crack.â
Zeebad whispered grabbing her chin. His nails digging into the skin.
âYou were wrong.â
Stella replied, resisting the urge to flinch from the pain.
âNo worries, if you wonât sing, I know that wrenched puppy will.â
Zeebad said as Stella moved her chin and bit his hand. The wizard once again falling backwards. He got up moving to slap the woman, but was interrupted when a toy soldier rushed into the room.
âSir! The puppy is awake!â
He informed the wizard.
âRight. Drag the wench out there with him and letâs begin.â Zeebad said as Sam unhooked the rope from the icicle.
Zeebad walked into the next room his evil laugh ringing in her ears.
âSorry about this madame.â Sam said simplicially as he dragged Stella into the next room. She only hoped by now that others noticed their absence.  Â
Doogal Fanfiction: Calamity
Ch. 3 Tense Beginning
Stella groaned a bit trying to get comfortable inside the caboose. She did have some space, but it wasnât easy when you shared the back with a cow and a dog.
Doogal wasnât big not compared to Ermintrude, but the cow took up a good amount of the area. So, the woman had to do a bit of adjusting, resulting in her body leaning on the cow. Â
Stella decided to distract herself by looking at their surroundings. The forest seeming to be a decent pastime compared to the silence plaguing her friends.
No one had spoken since they left the town twenty minutes ago.
It was uncomfortable, but necessary as everyone avoided talking because if they did the first thing would be to obviously blame Doogal for temporally uprooting their lives. Â
Stella wondered if that dog hadnât interrupted the concert with his crazy scheme, what would she be doing right now?
Probably, the usual.
Check if she had any clients, spend time with her friends, prepare dinner and go to bed hoping for a better day tomorrow.
âDoogal, donât feel guilty because this all your fault.â
Stella heard Brian say as her hand went to cover her eyes.
âHere we go.â
She whispered, Brian lit the fuse.
âMy fault! How is this my fault?â
Everyone turned to Doogal as Ermintrude spoke up.
âBesides bussing up the merry go round and trapping Florance and those children. Causing the release of a manic bent on freezing the world. Other than that, nothing.â
Stella was frowning at Doogal, how could he forget what he did?
âAll I wanted was to get my paws on some delicious candy.â
Doogal replied, as a disgusted look replaced Stellaâs frown. She normally gave anyone the benefit of the doubt but not in this case.
Their lives were in danger thanks to his sweet tooth. Her friends had no idea how unpredictable Zeebad is. The wizard was a selfish creature and would do anything to increase his power.
He was the opposite of Zebedee, where the wizard was a representation of warmth and the beginning of spring. Zeebad represented the cold harsh winter. Â
She shivered at the thought of an ice age becoming a norm if they failed.
âI know how you feel dude but seems like you have a problem.â
Dylan stated his chin resting on his elbows as his eyes bore into Doogal.
By his tone, Stella could tell that he was slightly annoyed with the dog, but was trying to lighten the mood. While Brian and Ermintrude didnât hold back their rage against him. She assumed the rabbit was cutting Doogal some slack, after all he was just a puppy.
A very immature, candy loving puppy.
âI donât have a problem and the sooner we find these diamonds the sooner we rescue Florance. Where are we headed?â
Doogal asked as Dylan brought out the map. He and Brian were struggling to understand the wording.
Stella moved up to view the parchment to her shock the words were in pig latin. Brian groaned in frustration and Dylan scratched his head in confusion staring at the pictures.
âIt says for us to move straight ahead. Train, is going in the right direction.â Â
Stella stated as everyone turned in her direction. Their eyes widened; she blushed when Dylanâs eyes were staring into hers. For a moment, Stella needed to look away or she wouldnât be able to speak. Â
âYou can read pig latin?â
Doogal asked sounding quite impressed.
âYes. My father taught me.â
Stella replied as Brian gave a sigh of relief.
âThat makes things easier for us having someone who knows where we are headed. That means we can stop to rest for the night.â
Everyone agreed, the sun was setting and thanks to a certain evil wizard it was getting colder. Train didnât have a heating component, so they would be unable to sleep inside him overnight.
As the sun began to set, trickles of snow fell from the sky and the friends finally found a good place for the night.
It was a cavern nestled near a mountain. It held enough cover to block out strong wind, but enough installation to drive out heavy smoke from their bonfire.
When the fire was lit, the light and warmth made the caravan more comfortable in her opinion despite the snow covering the ground.
Each of her friends prepared their tents. Stella purposely chose a spot next to Ermintrude as the cow always needed help putting up her tent due to the lack hands. It didnât help that the cowâs tent was a smaller version of her dressing room.
Brianâs tent was his shell, Doogalâs lodge was a dog bed (with candy) and Dylan (who happen to be next to Stellaâs) appeared to look like a sail from a boat with a small window at the top.
Stellaâs tent was red like the others but decorated in golden stars. She pulled the strings of her tent and went to grab her hammer to nail a side down.
Unfortunately, one side began to stumble, and the woman quickly grabbed the weakened side threatening the stability of her tent.
The human frowned, when she saw the hammer a few feet from her reach. If Stella let, go the entire tent would fall. She looked to Ermintrude who was struggling to get her tent stable.
âNeed help?â
Dylan asked walking over with his own hammer. The rabbit skillful tossed it in his hand before going to his knees and nailing the side of Stellaâs tent, allowing her to release the hold on it. Â
She stared in awe at his handywork and found herself staring at his lowered posture. Stella admired the squint in his eyes as he concentrated on nail.
âI-I feel as i-if I k-keep relying o-on you t-too much.â
Stella muttered not noticing Dylan stopped to stare at the woman.
âYou donât give yourself enough credit.â
Dylan stood, reaching for her hand. Stella slowly placed it in Dylanâs as she allowed him to guide her from inside the tent to him.
She couldnât speak when their eyes met. Stella was close enough where she could feel his whiskers on her cheek.
âI was happy to help.â
Stellaâs blush reached her ears; she wanted Dylan to know her true feelings. It was maddening and her heartbeat thumped loudly when she realized the rabbit was still holding on to her hand.
âDylan I-I.â
âDoogal! You get tired of seeing us work!â
At the sound of Ermintrudeâs voice, the pair moved apart. Dylan nervously scratched the back of his neck before going to finish his tent.
Stella flushed, rushing to assist her friend. Although, her green eyes would wander down the rabbitâs back as he worked.
âOh no, you guys are doing great. I donât want to get in the way. By the way, I am hungry. Who is cooking tonight?â
Doogal said, as everyone stopped to glare at the puppy before refocusing on the tents. Stella finished helping Ermintrudeâs and gave the cow an extra blanket.
The woman went to her tent laying out her sleeping bag with a dark purple quilt.
âOh, I get it the silent treatment. Thatâs fine. I have everything I need over here.â
The dog said going over his version of shelter.
With the tents prepared, everyone could finally relax. Or so they thought, Ermintrude was feeling the weight of the journey. The cow was upset that her concert was cancelled and began giving everyone a sneak peek of her performance.
To Stellaâs relief, she had remembered to pack her earplugs and slipped a pair to everyone minus Doogal. When the cow hit a high note, ice from above the cavern fell on the ground and demolished Doogalâs sleeping area.
âAre you happy now? Your singing killed my chocolates!â
Doogal said outraged.
âYou donât need to feed your habit anyway.â
Stella replied taking her earplugs out, while Ermintrude was getting Dylan who had fallen asleep, inside his tent. The rabbit yawned stumbling, the woman admiring his back once again.
âYou got it bad.â The cow whispered, snickering.
Stella turned away playfully hitting Ermintrudeâs hoof and yawning.
Their canine companion noticed everyone was getting ready for bed.
âYou know, someone should keep watch.â Doogal said as Brian responded to the puppy.
âGood idea. You have first watch.â
âWait, what! Not fair!â
Doogal said pacing back and forth to the tents in an attempt to convince one of his friends to take watch. Everyone said their goodnights before closing them to prevent Doogal from getting in. Â
Once his footsteps faded, Stella relaxed feeling a bit of guilt. After all, Doogalâs sleeping arrangements were buried in snow. After his shift, the dog would have no where to sleep.
It was a stretch. She was still not happy with Doogal, but allowing him to sleep in her quarters would not be a bad thing. Odds are he was used to sleeping in a bed next to Florance.
Stella opened the flap of her tent into the clearing to find Doogal. His footprints were visible in the snow. As she neared her target, Stella heard him complaining.
The dog was on the mountainside above their campsite. She walked until the woman was next to the canine.
âWhat do you want.â Doogal said. Stella easily picked up on the frustration in his voice.
âLook, I know everyone is mad. I am not gonna lie, even I am mad at you for this situation. But you donât deserve to not have a warm place to sleep. I am offering my tent if you are ok with that. On one condition, you have to pull your weight and help out when locating the diamonds.â
Before Doogal could respond, he screamed making Stella turn around as everything went black. Â Â Â

Ch. 2 Off to Save the World
Stella grabbed the nearest object she could (baseball bat). Bracing herself she began hitting the ice, her eyes searching for weak spot.
The woman grunted hitting the ice again and again, mentally assuring herself that it would eventually break.
Brian cautiously approached Stella, her hits creating unnecessary noise.
âStella, please. You have a bat. It is not strong enough to break the ice.â
The snail stated pleading with the woman to see the flaw in her weapon of choice.
Stella paused in her swinging. She dropped the bat, leaning on her knees. Then turned to her friends their faces showing fear and helplessness.
âWhat do you suggest we do?â
Stella asked her attention focused on Brian, who had stopped her attempt to free everyone from the carousel.
âWe have to get them out, the human body can only last so long in cold temperatures.â
She stated as her friends began exchanging looks before calling for the wizard of their realm.
Zebedee appeared instantly, his face giving way to shock when his eyes saw the carousel. He looked around seeing the damage, even stopping to stare at Stella whose gaze remained on the ground.
She was half-listening to what the wizard was saying as he explained what happened. Once the name Zeebad reached her ears, the woman couldnât help, but interrupt.
âThat was Zeebad? Who was shot out of that ride!?â
Stella yelled, her voice held panic. Concerned, Ermintrude went to stand near the woman. Her tail wrapping comfortably around her shoulders.
âZeebad, but he is just a shaggy dog story.â
Doogal said getting the wizardâs attention.
âI am afraid he is all too real. Cold hearted, tyrannis and cruel.â
 Zebedee clarified, facing the group.
Stella shivered from the information. Their home was practically a paradise, a haven for all creatures. With Zeebad loose in their realm who knows what would happen. Â
She once again looked toward the carousal, fingers fidgeting as Zebedee kept talking about the ice wizard. Her eyes widening when Stella noticed the soldier was missing. Her hand urgently went to her chest and she shivered, the tailâs grip increasing until her tremors died down.
Stella focused on the rest of the conversation as the wizard told her friends about the diamonds.
âI must stay and guard the last one. All of you must find the other two and keep them from Zeebadâs clutches.â
With the wave of his magic, a map appeared landing in Dylanâs hands.
âKeep this map with you. It will guide you to the location of the diamonds.â Zebedee said his attention moving to Stella.
He took her hand, moving her further from the group.
âStella, you are not like the others. As the only human, you will be more vulnerable to the elements. So, my dear girl you will need this.â
A bronze satchel gently glided into her hands. The pouch had a system that carefully wrapped around her waist. When she opened it, Stella was a bit confused to see the black empty void.
âAnything you need on your journey. Whatever it is will appear inside the bag. All you have to do is think or say it.â
The wizard stated taking her hand again.
âI feel nervous sending you out there. Out of everyone, I fear he will come after you the most to spite me.â
He whispered as Stella leapt into his arms.
âI will be fine. I am afraid, but I would rather go.â The woman said tightening her arms around the wizardâs neck.
He did the same, not wanting to let her go.
âCall my name if you truly need my assistance.â
Zebedee and Stella pulled from the embrace.
âWe will. Before I leave, I want to tell youâŠâ
âSam is missing. I noticed his absence when I arrived.â
The wizard eyes narrowed, meeting Stellaâs green ones.
âI need you to keep an eye out for him on your journey. Do not tell the others of his role in the town. Understood my girl.â
Stella nodded as they went back to the others. By now, the group was loading onto a train. She walked over giving the train a smile, which he returned as she approached the caboose where Doogal and Ermintrude were settled.
There were no stairs connected to the train. Stellaâs hands held its side, attempting to climb it. First attempt landed the woman flat on her bottom, while the second gave her hands a nice red burn.
Frustrated, she sat in the grass.
âNeed any help?â
Stella was shocked to see Dylan with his hand held out.
Nervously she took it, feeling her heartbeat increase as his soft paws took her hand to lift her from the ground. Dylanâs arm encircled her waist, while other moved under Stellaâs legs.
She covered her mouth with her hands to prevent any noise from coming out as a blush overtook her face. The rabbit carefully began moving Stella inside the caboose, before depositing himself in the front with Brian.
âT-thank you D-Dylan.â
âNo worries, I was happy to help. Are your hands, ok?â he asked as Stella shyly looked away from his honey- brown eyes.
âT-they will b-be fine.â
She whispered for a bottle of ointment and opened the bag, finding exactly that, while the train moved farther away from the town.

Ch. 1 Failed Performance
âHold on Ermintrude! Iâm also done, just one minute more!â
âWell hurry up! I donât want to be late for curtain call!â
âFirst off, itâs a small concert in the town square. Second, it doesnât start for 30 minutes.â The woman muttered making the singer roll her eyes.
Stella went through her make-up kit, satisfied when she found the blush. The color was the exact shade as the cowâs complexion. She dipped the brush into the blush lightly coating Ermintrudeâs cheeks.
After applying the blush, she added mascara to the cowâs lashes and a generous amount of lip gloss to her mouth.Â
âThere now are we satisfied?â Stella said, turning Ermintrudeâs chair to the mirror with decorated headlights.
Her friend stared heavily at her reflection, before a smile overtook her face.
âI look good! Just like the stars in the magazine!â
Stella gave a sigh of relief.
Ermintrude rushed to her house two hours ago begging for her assistance in doing her make-up.
It was no joke that Stella Jabari was the best make-up artist in town. Many of the citizens encouraged her to open a parlor, but she wasnât comfortable doing so.
Instead, she allowed anyone who wanted their make-up done to come over for a small fee. Ermintrude was not only her client but one of her closest friends. The attention from doing the cowâs make-up earned her at least five to seven clients a week.
Before putting away her supplies, Stella put her goddess braids in a high ponytail then applied mascara and natural gloss on her lips.
She ventured upstairs removing her apron and putting on a pair of jean shorts and a blue off shoulder crop top with white flowers.
Once dressed she rejoined Ermintrude downstairs, covering her ears as the cow was in the middle of doing her vocal warmups.
She went to the kitchen grabbing a cup of coffee and a piece of toast.
Stella ate her breakfast, while the cow continued to practice in her living room. The woman began reading the newspaper, a blush appearing on her face at the performanceâs advertisement.
On the cover, was Ermintrude, Mr. Rusty and finally Dylan.
Stella took a long sip of her coffee, attempting to get thoughts of him out of her head.
Dylan, like Ermintrude, was part of her friend group.
Truth be told, the woman harbored feelings for the rabbit.
For years, she bent over backwards to get him to notice her, but as usual Dylan remained clueless.
She shared the burden of having an unrequited love with her friend, Brian.
The snail was obsessed with Ermintrude. Â
It was concerning, but she was happy to have someone to talk to besides the cow about her bizarre infatuation.
âOh, I see someone has seen the advertisement this morning.â Ermintrude said walking into the kitchen. She stood on her hind legs, a coffee cup in her hoof as she leaned against the counter.
Stella set the newspaper down, her blush still evident on her face.
âNever knew he was photogenic.â She muttered while cleaning her cup.
âYou want to eat anything? We still have fifteen minutes.â
âNeed to keep pipes clear. I will eat after the performance.â Ermintrude stated finishing her coffee and giving it to Stella for cleaning.
âAnother thing donât give up on Dylan. He is not my first choice, but eventually he will figure it out with whatever is going on in that head of his.â
Stella didnât bother responding. Â
She just needed to think of another plan of action.
âLast dish is clean; shall we head out?â Stella asked, offering her arm to Ermintrude.
The cow took it as they walked out the door and into the square. They were greeted by Rusty who was setting up.
Stella unlinked her arm from Ermintrude and walked over to Rusty, who was standing on the platform looking lost.
âNeed help?â Stella asked taking some of the decorations and looping each over the railings. Â
Rusty tipped his hat in thanks to the girl, while he went to set up a sign.
The woman hummed as she tightened the decorations, making sure each would not fly away if a breeze hit the area.
With one side complete, Stella moved to continue the other side.
âYo Rusty! Where should I put my ax?â
Stella paused in her task, slowly turning as her breathing hitched at the sound of Dylanâs voice. A hand going through her braids as she found herself arranging her hair in a more attractive style.
Rusty pointed to the platform; Dylan responded with a quick thanks before finding a proper spot. Stella was relieved that the rabbit hadnât noticed her yet and watched as he took out his instrument to practice.
He began strumming softly, the melody overtaking the empty scenery.
The song grew louder as Dylan got lost in his music.
The notes fluctuating between classical and hard rock, the moment captivating Stella as the rabbit added his own flair to the song.
This was one of the reasons she loved Dylan.
He was a passionate person when he wasnât falling asleep at the drop of a hat.
Stella was so mesmerized; she didnât notice her foot was caught on one of the decorations and fell on her face.
Her actions knocking the rabbit out of his trance.
She moved to untangle her foot as Rusty and Ermintrude rushed to free her. Rusty went over and was able to untangle her foot, while Ermintrude lifted her off the ground.
âStella are you ok?! Donât want my make-up artist down for the count.â she muttered, hooves wiping any dust from her outfit.
âI am fine, really I am.â The woman muttered, her breath catching again when Dylan made his way to her.
His ears were high in alert, and she noticed his foot was up a few inches, before quickly placing in on the ground.
Honey brown eyes were solely focused on Stella.
âHey! Are you ok dudette?â
Stella cleared her throat, trying very hard not to get lost in the rabbitâs eyes.
âY-yes completely! Um, yeah, I am f-fine. Thank you.â Stella muttered, mentally cursing at how foolish she must look to him.
âThatâs great. Sorry I didnât see you earlier. I was in the zone, you know. Are you staying to watch gig?â Dylan asked.
Stella wanted to jump up in happiness but remained composed.
âWouldnât m-miss it for t-the world.â Stella replied not noticing that she was rearranging her braids again.
âAwesome! I will see you later!â Dylan said walking over to his spot on the platform.
âUh, yeah! You too!â Stella stated running off the platform to a nearby bush, out of the rabbitâs line of sight.
âStupid, stupid, stupid!â she groaned dropping her head in her lap.
The woman looked up seeing Rusty and standing in front of her. A small smirk on his face as she put it together that the man had witnessed the whole conversation between her and Dylan.
She glared at the performer, a warning in her stare.
âNot a word Rusty.â
The man nodded, zipping his lips, and helping Stella from the floor. They went to finish decorations as people little by little began to arrive.
Stella found a spot next to Brian before the performance, her eyes unconsciously went to Doogal. As much she loved Floranceâs dog, he was trouble with an uncontrollable sweet tooth.
Events like this were not really his cup of tea, unless getting candy afterwards was on the list. Despite the event Doogal would say it was boring or will end in disaster (which he causes often).
When the performance began, Stella didnât think much on Doogalâs disappearance until he returned ramming a candy cart into the carousel where Florance and her friends fled to safety.
Rusty pulled both Stella and Brain on the platform, then rushed to stop the carousel as it spun out of control.
âRusty look for the emergency switch!â Stella yelled moving towards the carousel. When she got close, the entire thing turned to ice just as something was thrown out of it.
Stella couldnât tell what it was, but it wasnât good. Â
He Knew
Takes place before Little Angel, A short tale on how Raoul knew from the start that Lucille wasn't truly his.
From the moment they met at kids, Raoul knew Lucille was something special. She was a ray of sunshine that somehow appeared in his life. He was too young to know at that time, she would change his entire world.
Years passed, they went their separate ways. He sold goods to the townsâ folk while Lucille entranced them with her voice earning the girl a title as their angel.
Through all circumstances, they remained friends despite their busy lives. On occasion an argument or two would occur, but it never affected their friendship.
Raoul admired Lucille and loved her more than anything, but somehow, he knew in his heart someone else was meant for the angel. How could the naĂŻve man have known that the person wasnât even human at all. Due to Raoulâs tomfoolery, Francoeur was born. A kind, sensitive flea with a heart of gold and voice smoother than silk. Those who saw him called the flea a monster, no one understood his true nature that was until he met Lucille. Like the others, the angel was terrified believing the rumors spread from the cowardly town folk. But upon hearing his voice, Lucille felt for the creature and took the flea in, giving him a brand new start. Having Francoeur, was risky for both Lucille, Raoul and their friends. But nevertheless they protected him, almost losing him in the process. Raoul had never seen Lucille in so much pain, her tears like the falling rain that drenched the earth as they huddled in a row boat to shore. His arms wrapped around her as she gripped Francoeurâs hat tightly in her hands. He knew the flea had left a special imprint on her heart, it was seen as Lucilleâs eyes brightened when she discovered Francoeur had survived the chaos.
She thanked Raoul, many a time for his efforts in protecting the flea and in return Lucille gave Raoul her heart. But he knew it wasnât wholeheartly. The pair went on many dates which mostly included a simple picnic or a stroll around the town.
They didnât kiss or flirt in fact nothing really had changed except Lucilleâs behavior. When the pair had conversations, Raoul would talk about his business while his angel would go on and on about Franceour.
At first, it was just about how childish and clumsy he was considering the flea did live with Lucille and her aunt.
Eventually, she began talking more about the flea as if he was a man. Raoul noticed how her lips would curve in a smile as the angel talked, a light blush appeared on Lucilleâs face along with a longing look in her eyes. She spoke in utter adoration and love something the man knew wasnât for him.
Raoul went home cursing to himself at how selfish he was for attempting to keep her as his. Lucille loved the flea it was obvious and by the way she spoke Franceour had matured immensely.
He needed to know, did the flea love her in return. If so like a gentlemen Raoul would let her go with the one his angel truly loved. He couldnât recall whether it was a Tuesday or Thursday when Raoul found himself knocking on Lucilleâs door.
He knew she wasnât home, but her aunt and Franceour were. His angelâs aunt opened the door allowing her nieceâs boyfriend inside, she was curious about his arrival, but though nothing of it as he roamed the hall to Franceourâs room.
He saw the flea with a serious expression on his face tapping wildly on the keys of the piano. Raoul was in shock, Franceour was completely focused, writing down a note or two as the keys played on. It had only been two and a half years, the flea acted human no trace of the former other than his appendages which had some muscle and a dark tone to them.
The man cleared his throat surprising Franceour a little before the flea smiled and took his hand, inviting the man inside the room. He showed Raoul his dozens of music sheets filled with notes, the man was into music much, but was very impressed by Franceourâs composition.
The flea was truly gifted.
A spark of jealously shot through Raoul, but he sustained it and pushed the papers aside asking Franceour if he cared about Lucille. The flea chirped not facing him, but the piano had a song entitled âMy Heart and Sorrowâ.
Raoul began reading the lyrics placed above, the whole song was a confession for his angel and the fleaâs feelings about her being with another.
Raoul felt his mind go blank and left the house to his own. They loved each other, he knew it from the start and the man knew what to do next.
Raoul appeared once again at Lucilleâs home and he sat down to talk with her confessing how it would be better to remain friends. The angel shed tears as Franceour came in from the next room having heard the conversation.
Raoul led him to the crying young women and combined their hands before leaving for the door not daring to look back. Now here Raoul was three years later dressed finely in a black tux a bottle of sparkling cider in front of him.
He was the best man at their wedding and was watching the pair dance the night away. Crowds huddled dancing alongside the newlyweds with happiness and good wishes. Despite his pain, the man gave the bride and groom a thumbs-up. Then Lucille in a stunning white wedding dress walked over with her new husband.
She embraced Raoul whispering a thank you, Franceour chirped happily patting him on the shoulder. He then gently took Lucilleâs hand and guided his wife back to the floor. Raoul watched the newlyweds leave, for a moment imaging himself in the fleaâs place.
For the first time a tear fell from his eyes, yes, he knew from the start that Lucille was never meant to be with him. But no matter what in the name of their friendship, he would always be there when she needed it. Because Raoul he loved Lucille and would never stop loving her.
