while i know he doesn't really gaf about boundaries or have a human sense of shame like that i do think that rocky realising that he's come to find grace perversely, sincerely desirable and developed an entirely reasonable but still uncomfortably intense degree of starvation for physical touch during their extended confinement together works better if he's not immediately fine and okay with it. i mean, he literally lives in a glass house, and the only time he could reasonably get away with processing his uncharted new feelings (up to you if that's a euphemism or not) is while watching over the already precariously easy to disturb sleep cycles of a fellow PTSD survivor who does have certain hangups and may not even share his attraction. let's all hope and pray that eridians don't ovulate or he's in for a hideously miserable four years on the return trip to erid.

k but imagine Rocky wanting to learn about how humans became the apex predators of their planet so he has Grace “hunt” him in the biodome as an experiment and during it he thinks Grace isn’t trying or taking it seriously which is bad bad bad because this is for research purposes

only for Rocky to get more and more tired as the experiment goes on just to realize that Grace isn’t which makes him panic so he puts as much distance as he can between them and finds a (hopefully) safe spot to sleep and when he wakes up the human is crouching over him like “got youuu” and Rocky has never shrieked so damn loud before in his life

I keep thinking about that scene in Project Hail Mary when Rocky learns that Grace has been sent up to die. Rocky says, "Why didn't you tell me." But not, "Why didn't you tell me, question?"

Now, I haven't read the book, but I've heard that in the book it's explained that the translator adds on "question" because Eridians have a word to indicate that what they're saying is a question. So, if that's true, why didn't Rocky indicate it was a question, even though it's clearly structured as one?

At least, it's structured as a question in english. Was Rocky not really asking a question in Eridian? Was he being more accusatory? Is the indication for "question" just a polite formality that Rocky chose to forgo because he was upset at Grace for lying by omission? Why is no one else talking about this????
