For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

"Slavery in the US was so long ago" only four years ago did the last known CHILD of a slave, a man named Daniel Smith, pass away at 90 years old. That is double digits. It baffles me how people could not even fathom how the systems of power now could not be deeply rooted in racism. The United States of America was erected in 1776, but the first reported slave was taken to the colonies more than 150 years prior to then (though there is strong speculation that slaves were brought much, much sooner.) When slavery "ended" in 1865, that means that the United States benefited from black slavery for at the very least 248 years. Our country is 250 years old. So many companies you know today had their hands in slave labor. This includes insurance, banks, transportation companies, fashion companies, food companies, and way more. "But why did we never learn about this in school" if the fucking DAIRY INDUSTRY could lobby and falsely add dairy to the food pyramid, do you really think multi-billion dollar banks and insurance companies could keep their names out of the history books? You think Chase Bank wants kids learning that it had accepted 13,000 slaves as loan collateral, and then seized 1,250 slaves from a plantation owner? Our entire economy was built off the backs of slaves and they fight tirelessly against our tired, our poor, our huddled masses yearning to breathe free, our homeless, our tempest-tossed, through unyielding political finance and union busting. They are doing everything in their power to get it back.
