I'm working on a sketch of how I imagine Alyssa post ressurection
girls when the media they're obsessed with is never going to be as good as they wish it could be
Jack: You ruined my life!
Edward: How could I ruin your life? I wasn't even there.
Hamish: It's 3 am. Nothing I've tried can get the taste of failure and vomit out of my mouth.
Jack: Thanks, mom... Why is everyone staring at me?
Randall: You just called Vera, mom; you said thanks, mom.
Jack: What? No, I didn't. I said thanks, man.
Vera: Do you see me as a mother figure, Mr. Morton?
Jack: No, if anything, I see you as a bother figure, 'cause you're always bothering me.
Hamish: Hey! You show your mother some respect!
also, since i probably will add them as itâs me weâre talking about, it should be known that iâm anti-gabrielle. as a character i guess sheâs fine ?? but she manipulated & treated jack like a puppet, and iâm tired of folk seeing the whole tattoo thing as a fun little joke. no, she violated trust & branded him. her role was to ensure that he didnât remember that he was a knight, not treat him like her own personal barbie doll. iâm just⊠separately, good. with jack ?? absolutely not. i wonât entertain anything that involves that.
Jack and Alyssa at the end of 1x8
Jack: Edward Coventry used a love spell to rape my mother and said spell drove her to suicide
Alyssa: Well I forgave you for lying to me so you should try and forgive him.
cakes for when you die and get brought back but there's something wrong with you and everyone can tell
Yeah so this was supposed to be the plot of season three of Netflix 's The Order and Alyssa is exactly the sort of person to buy both. One thank you. One apology. Chocolate and vanilla so there's something for everyone. She has a single sad bite of a piece while staring sadly at you. And then she kills you and says it's your fault. Did she really come back wrong or is she just openly eating your face this time? We'll never know. But we know
Did Chloe even die because of Edward? Because we never see or hear about him using love spells outside of Jack and Pete. We never even see the existence of them. Plus Jack and Pete blame him for her suicide before even knowing that was a possibility. So what actually is up?
If a series dropping an entire season at once makes people think âaw man, I wish they released it weekly,â then they messed up. If a series doing weekly releases of episodes has people thinking âaw man, I wish I could watch all these episodes immediatelyâ then theyâre doing exactly what they should be doing
I wish we got to see a bit more of Jack being a part of the order before becoming a knight.
One day I will hunker down and write the multiple character essays on The Order and how each has a lot of potential and why this show desperately needed a rewrite.
Saying Hamish's character was inconsistent in season 2 implies it was ever consistent to begin with. Season 1 was a giant game of narrative ping pong with Hamish.
Itâs actually really predatory that Gabrielle uses pulervis memoria to make Jack think theyâre dating. The touching and the kissing doesnât just blur the line of consent, itâs assault. Nicole doesnât breach the boundary when Lilith actually pursues her, because she recognizes that it would be inappropriate, but since Gabrielle has a very messed up moral code she uses her power to manipulate Jack, and nobody stops her. Itâs super not okay and we donât talk about it enough because itâs played off as a joke.
The show really brings up magical rape and kind of ignores the horror of it. Like legit I didn't realize that was what they were implying with Chloe until I read it on TV tropes, because it was so horrifying and I didn't think the show would do that with a character who wasn't meant to cross the moral event horizon yet. Also it's gross to pepper that in as backstory. And they emphasize the hair dying and tattoo, which is also gross and I've heard it described as branding, which was apt. But they gloss over how normal Jack doesn't like Gabrielle, and when she touches him after, he's clearly uncomfortable. It's all so icky and especially bad for a character about to undergo a redemption arc.
Also, you'd think with Jack's backstory and what happened to his mother, he'd be a lot more vocally angry at Gabrielle for doing that to him. And feel a lot more personally affected by what happened.
Part of the reason I would have liked Edward Coventry in season 2 is because he could have been the one put in charge of Jack and I would love to see how a version of Jack who has memories of being raised by Edward would act. Also it would allow for more exploration of how fucked up the mind wipe was and it wouldn't make Gabrielle creepy and gross.
It's kind of really fucked up that Alyssa teamed up with Salvador after seeing the massacre of the Prometheans. Like I didn't feel bad for them. But I don't exist within the universe of The Order (which I am grateful for)
Question: Why does it feel like Vera is protective of Jack? Like I love you man but you donât seem that special (like the Knights are my kids and I would die for all of them) but Jack is very basic.
Do we think what she said about him was true?
I donât know what she said about him because Iâm still watching season 2 but I always thought Vera admired Jack and sees him as a young her.
Also heâs is part of the Knights so how can you like the others but not him? lol
What episode are you on? Yeah I thought the same thing about her seeing herself when she was just a new Acolyte. But idk I feel like thereâs something more going on. ïżŒïżŒ
Iâm on episodes 5. Did she know about Jackâs mother since the beginning? Did she pretend that she didnât know about his mother and about him being Edwardâs son? Maybe her and Jackâs mom were good friends?
Maybe his mom was also part of the Order but got excommunicated and her memories were taken away.
Yeah that was my theory since season one and her being pregnant with Jack was the reason it didnât completely take away all the memories and she told her father what she remembered. Thatâs why the grandfather and Jack knew there was a secret society at the school.
I figured it was a sort of unspoken connection they have, they both came from humble beginnings and seem to have very little family. And they both went through unspeakable tragedies at very young ages. And in a way, they are exactly the kind of person the other needs. Vera is a childless mother and Jack is a motherless child, as much as they refuse to show it, they do have a rather deep bond that keeps growing over the series. Itâs incredibly apparent in 2x6, where we see that in a group of hundreds forced to feel her pain, Jack was the only one who truly understood her loss.
Glad to hear you like it, Vera and Jack's relationship is my favorite in the show and it has some of the best writing in the series. Yeah we're still here, all four of us.
