Maduru oya national park
We drove to Maduru Oya from Wasgamuwa via Mahiyangana. Its about an hours drive. Roads is good . Entrance is on the left of Mahiyangana-Padiyathalawa road and is easy to miss. Park office is small compared to other NP's but it seem they get very little visitors. On July 22nd we were the only visitors in the park. Guide we got was a capable tracker. Later we found out that he is descendant of the veddas.
With the lakes and the mountains, views in the park are the most stunning for a park in a dry zone. Most areas has secondary growth and you could spot wildlife easy. We saw mostly elephants. We saw two groups and around 5 'thani aliyas (lone males). They seems to be bigger ,well fed and more aggressive than the ones we saw in Wasgamuwa. There is an abandoned bus road which is perfect for 4x4 off road action. We ended the tour by visiting one of the Vedda settlements. More on that later.
p.s: can you find the elephant in the pic? :)
