My AU!

So I'm working on and still developing this Smurfs AU. It doesn't have a name just yet, but let me explain it just a little :)

AU under the cut, this gets pretty long

So in this universe, Smurfs are averaging around 3-4 feet in height, and contain similar features to satyrs (half goat half man) and fauns (half deer half man, to my understanding) save for the fact that they have paws, not hooves

Example: Lettie (Smurfette)

• They might be seen riding deer, wolves, or moose (Except for Gutsy who, unsurprisingly, decided to ride a bear)

• There are Natural Sorcerers and Learned Sorcerers (often just being referred to as Sorcerers, as this is the norm. Natural Sorcerers are a little less common)

- Papa and Lettie are both Naturals

- Brainy is Learned (and rather jealous of Lettie but he keeps it as subtle as he can)

- Despite being a Natural, Lettie is still being taught by Papa how to control and manage her power. Since she is Manmade, and was created by a not-so-good Sorcerer, her magic can be a little unpredictable and risky

• Lettie's backstory is different!

- In the Canon Universe, she was created by Gargamel as an adult to lure in the males

- In my universe, she was created by Gargamel as a pup (like twelve-ish), to get adopted into the village, and using a spell that linked her soul to his, Gargamel could see through her eyes, seeing everything she saw, and hearing everything she heard. He did this to get information about where the village was, what kinds of defenses they had, what magic they had access to, ect.

- When pup!Lettie started having nightmares fuelled by guilt, she woke Papa up one night and confessed that she had been created by Gargamel, and explained everything. That's when Papa used a spell to break the link between Lettie and Gargamel, setting her free and giving her independence.

- Instead of being created from clay, she was molded from the shadows, and can still morph into this shadow beast with fangs and horns. This form of hers only ever comes out through genuine anger or fear though, and is rarely seen since she tends to be very happy and calm.

- Since they're both being taught by Papa, and thus spend a lot of time together, she and Brainy act the most like siblings

• Having grown up with the other Smurfs, many of them treat her like a sister, rather than a love interest

• Those from Smurf Village (the mens village) tend to dress in blues, purples, and whites and follow a general aesthetic that closely resembles how humans in the nearby kingdom dress. (Lettie, having also grown up in this village, follows this and tends to dress like the men)

• Those from The Grove (the womens village) dress more in non-restrictive, tough clothing that can handle a lot of wear. They tend to dress more like warriors, ready for anything.

• Though after the two villages came in contact and started mingling, these two fashions mixed and now it's not uncommon to see Smurfs from The Grove to sometimes dress like the Smurfs from Smurf Village, and vice versa.

• There are plenty other villages out there (ex. Indigo Creek, where my oc Lobelia is from) that Smurf Village and The Grove just lost contact with, and that's why they thought they were the only ones for a while. These other villages are on the other side of the kingdom and forest, and no body knows how they lost contact with Smurf Village and The Grove.

Gargamel Lore

(I accidentally pulled an Ice King with this one, I'm not even gonna lie)

100 years ago, he was a kind and normal man, with a wife he loved dearly. He was practicing to become a sorcerer to work for the King, to give himself and his wife a good life. Unfortunately, his wife fell ill, and no amount of medicine or magic was helping, so desperately, he turned to creatures of the forest for help.

This is where the Smurfs come in. These were smurfs, not from Smurf Village, but from a different village on the other side of the kingdom. When even they tried and failed to help her, and she passed, that's when something in Gargamel changed. He blamed the death of his wife on the smurfs, claiming they didn't try enough.

Desperate to bring her back, he dabbled in forbidden magic that started to consume him, change his heart, and make him evil. It changed him so much, he eventually forgot why he was searching for power to begin with, forgot about his wife, and forgot why he hated the Smurfs. All he knew was that he did hate them, and would stop at nothing to destroy them.

He moved to the other side of the kingdom, where Smurf Village is, and that's when his obsession with them started.

The kind spirit of his wife may or may not still roam the forest, peacefully

The Start of it All

I don't have enough content of Papa being a father or raising his kids so I decided I'd just write it myself

Non-Canon content ahead! Some of this is headcanon and some of this is taken from the scrapped third movie script

Papa is referred to as Pieter in this

He sat in his chair, anxiously looking out the window into the night. Everything was still and quiet, save for the sound of cicadas and crickets in the distance. That sound used to comfort him, but tonight, it did very little, for tonight was the night everything would change.

His heartrate started to pick up, and he placed a hand against his chest, taking a long, slow breath. 'Calm yourself, Pieter,' he thought, 'It will be okay.'

Dragging himself from the window he turned and looked at himself in the mirror; a far cry from the smurf he used to be. He used to be young and bold and he'd go searching for danger simply for the thrill of it. He remembered when he used to chase after birds in an attempt to ride them and get off the ground. Back then, he had a clean, smooth face and a ponytail.

The thought of such a style was absurd today. Now his hair was cut, tucked under a hat, and his face had since been covered by a chestnut beard. He sighed and ran a hand underneath it.

How things have changed since then. He'd gone from being a daring young smurf who constantly got in trouble with his village to being all alone in a matter of minutes...

Images flashed in his mind, how horse hooves had smashed through houses and trampled everything, how humans had snatched up his kin. Many were lost, and many had fled into the forest, never to be seen or heard from again.

But Pieter had stayed. The very house he was anxiously waiting in had once been his papa's. One of the few to have held up since the attack. He wished his papa hadn't left so he could ask him what to do when the stork arrived. He was clueless and scared.

What if they didn't like him? What if he messed up? What if his new village got destroyed and he lost everyone again? What if-

A tap at his door yanked him from his thoughts, as he turned a little too quickly, tripping and stumbling to the door. Yanking it open, Pieter readjusted his hat and went still as he looked up at the stork.

A tall, beautiful bird gazed down at him for a moment before it lowered its head toward him. It took Pieter a moment to realize it was lowering a squirming bundle to him and he took a step closer to take it in his arms.

He pulled the cloth away from the baby's face, watching as the smurfling screwed its face up and started crying at the sight of the stranger holding him. Pieter let a breath out, in awe of the child in his arms. His anxiety seemed to flare up then settle back down, like a wave, crashing into his gut.

This little guy was fully dependent on him now, and soon there would be even more. Pieter went to look back at the stork, but it had already taken back off, likely to retrieve more little ones to bring back to him.

With a shakey sigh, he turned back into his mushroom and shut the door, standing there for a moment as the weight of everything started to sink in.

He was a father now. He didn't know just how many smurflings would be brought to him. In his old village, storks brough babies to individual parents and families, and the entire village would work together to raise the next generation.

Pieter was alone with this task. Any of his surviving siblings had left and he had no idea where they were.

The baby cried and flailed his little arms around, kicking his legs like he was trying to escape the swaddle he was wrapped in. "Aren't you just an unhappy little thing?" Pieter said quietly, looking at the baby. "What's got you so upset now? You don't know a single thing yet."

Despite his calm words and gentle tone, he was admittedly terrified. Part of him had already felt like he had messed up. He tightened the swaddle and settled the baby into one of the many cribs he had built, hoping that would calm him down.

Unfortunately, it just got him screaming. Getting increasingly stressed out, he started to gently rock the crib, but it only upset the little one even more, who was becoming purple in the face from all the crying.

'Maybe he's hungry,' he thought to himself, rushing off to prepare a bottle. Wails pierced his ears as he mixed the formula together and tested the temperature on his wrist. He brought it back and offered it to the baby, who just turned his head away and continue to cry.

By now, he has managed to escape his swaddle, but was still holding onto the blanket in his little fists, almost holding it back over himself. When the elder set the bottle down to pick him up, the baby turned and tearfully reached for it. Confused, Pieter tried to give the bottle to him once more, only for it to be smacked away and followed by more cries.

Completely at a loss, Pieter felt tears start to sting his own eyes. He was doing it wrong, his baby hated him, he was already failing... His papa would know what to do..

Swallowing his stress for a moment, he lifted the little one into his arms and held him against his chest, holding the blanket loosely against his back. Finally, the cries started to soften, quieting into hiccups.

Pieter gave a sigh of relief. "There... It took me a while, but I got it, didn't I?" A tired, disbelieving grin tugged at his lips when he heard the baby forcing more whines, like he was looking for a reason to be upset again. "No, no, none of that.. You're just never happy, are you? You dont like being swaddled, you don't like being free, you don't like being fed, you don't like being hungry.."

He sighed and settled back down in his chair by the window. "Seems like you just enjoy being grumpy.. Well, at least you like me." He started rocking the chair and the baby eventually fell asleep, lulled by the repetitive motion and the soothing sound of his new father's voice.

Pieter leaned his head back and let out a deep sigh that seemed to come straight from his bones. He could do this. He didn't have a choice, but he was Pieter, he had always been able to find solutions and get himself out of sticky situations.

Never before did he ever think he'd father even one child, not thinking himself to be the type to settle down, but now he waa potentially going to raise hundreds. All because of a loosely worded wish he had made to a spirit in the forest.

'Please,' he had asked, 'bring Smurf Village back.'

'Very well,' the spirit had answered, looking down at him, 'Smurf Village will rise again, but you are in charge of building it. Under the next full moon, storks will begin bringing you the next generation.'

At the time, Pieter had tried to back track, to explain that that wasn't what he had meant, to plead with the spirit to change the wish.

Looking down at the little one asleep on his chest, who had already caused him so much stress, he wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Who do you ship Snurfstorm with?

I ship her with multiple smurfs, but I think my favorite by far is Clumsy

I have this scenerio in my head where there's an antagonist in the village who thinks she's 'fixing' them and she goes, "Where is this girlfriend of yours? Surely a woman would be more reasonable >:( "

And Clumsy hesitates because his girlfriend is very much not reasonable but he's also so so ready for this person to leave so he's like, "Uh, yeah... I'll go get her."

Cut to Storm kicking the door in and immediately drawing back her bow and arrow, Clumsy in the background, peeking in through the door just to make sure everything stays clean and doesn't escalate any further

As for my other ships, I also like her with Smurfette, and Hefty to a smaller extent. Platonically or Queer Platonically, I like her with Brainy, and this comes from the episode where they had to write down everyone's secrets for the village's security and they actually got along really well

"Evil like Me," from Descendants but it's between a younger Gargamel and his mother because when he was young he probably was more decent or at least had a phase in his life where he could have ended up a good person but his mother got in his head

And he only had his mother and his godfather, Lord Balthazar, so with those two influencing his life and being evil and manipulative, he fell right into the role they wanted him to

During the song I'm imagining her pulling him into a sort of ballroom dance but he keeps fumbling, unable to keep up because it's not really something he wants to do and he's reluctant to follow in her footsteps, but by the end of it, he willingly takes her hand and even takes the lead, being the one to spin her this time

I also see them tap dancing side by side during his line, "Yeah we're gonna be SPITEFUL!"

To add to the Combined Universe where all the smurfs have grown and had their own kids, I wanna touch on Gargamel real quick

He's much older now and no longer really a threat because he can't chase smurfs like he used to, and gave up on his quest to catch them.

Some of the younger generation smurfs visit him because it's safe now and they kinda feel bad for him being old and alone. Smurfette won't though, she still can't really face him.

He's kept alive by his magic but Azriel has passed away, and Gargamel keeps a stone statue of him in his home and never got another cat since.

Until the cat distribution system caught him and he wound up with a kitten he "didn't want," and named Misfortune because of how "troublesome" and "unwanted" this kitten was.

He fucking loves this cat, he just won't admit it.

Gargamel: No, now she's gone and scratched up my curtains. Troublesome pest.

Hefty: Why dont you just get rid of her then?

Gargamel, lying: No, no, the damage is done, there's no point..

*Misfortune clawing her way up his robe to sit on his shoulder*

Gargamel, chuckling: Oh Azriel would hate you, I'm sure of it.

Can we get some baby Gutsy Smurf? Or Farmer, or Hefty?

of course! I got inspired by your ask and just had to draw little gutsy and hefty being rascals as kids. I can totally see them being good friends, playing together. : )

I think once the smurfs fully mature and grow up and have their own kids, their language would change and evolve a little, and this specifically applies to family titles

Some of them do get called 'Papa' and 'Mama' (Brainy gets called Papa by his kid, obviously, he's wanted to be Papa for so long and to be looked up to)

But I have a headcanon that the parental terms created and spread through the village would be "Ada" (ah-dah) for father, and "Uma" (uh-muh) for mother.

No one is really sure who started it first, but now it's just the normal term. "Mother" and "Father" sort of get abandoned and brushed off as human terms.

"Where's your Ada?," or "You just wait until your Uma hears about this," are normal for someone scolding a misbehaving smurfling

To add; "Fadne" (Fahd-neh) is the smurf equivalent of 'Uncle." In my mind, the smurfs aren't related so an uncle would just be a close family friend.

Like with Clumsy being Brainy's best friend, Cricket (Brainy's daughter) calls him Fadne. The female equivalent of this is Nadme (Nahd-meh), which is what Smurfette's kid would call Blossom or Storm, given how close they are with Smurfette.

There's even new grandparent terms.

Papa is Apera, Willow is Namera, and Grandpa is Knutru.

'Knutru' is actually a word that Grandpa coined for himself, as it's from an ancient elven language he learned on his travels. It actually is part of the longer word, 'Knutriadi,' meaning blueberry.

He just thought it was funny, honestly.

Ken doesn't have a title, he prefers just his own name, while everyone refers to Ron as Apadne, Which just combines 'Fadne' with 'Apera,' because he's sort of like the younger generation's grand-uncle. Many of the younger smurfs have shortened this to "Apa," which everyone knows who you're talking about if you say it. There's only one Apa.

For any smurfs who don't have a familial title, they just get referred to by name

Rune loves her tiny boyfriend but he most definitely stresses her out by just running ahead and disappearing into the foliage

She knows Gutsy is strong for a smurf, but she's also well aware that he could easily be scooped up by a bird or a bobcat

It's not uncommon for her to be stressfully looking around for him while he's literally like two feet away

She also frequently puts him in air jail for this

A rather random question i just thought of. If the live-action smurfs were canon and had appeared in the new smurfs series (talking about vexy, hackus, narrator, crazy, etc) would you send any of them with a smurf girl or with a smurf boy? Its strange, but i almost shipped Storm with smurf Passive-Aggressive and else Vexy with Hefty. (I love Heffette but i wanted to see what it would be like if Hefty preferred 'dark' girls like Vexy and i think its quite interesting)

I love this ask because I love meeting people who are into weird ships and making AUs, like me

I think Hefty has eyes for Smurfette only, personally. I think if anyone has eyes for Vexy, it's probably Grouchy, and that admittedly may be bias from their brief interactions in the second movie, as they did seem to be mutually attracted to each other.

I can't see Hackus with anyone romantically, but I can see him being friends with Dimwitty, Begonia, and Clumsy (and by extension, Brainy to an extent)

I can maybe see Gutsy with Storm, actually. I can see him being attracted to someone brave and warrior-like. Even on a platonic level, I can see them being friendly rivals.

Passive-Aggressive, I think would drive other Smurfs away. I can't see him in a healthy relationship, he honestly seems like the type to neg his partners into staying with him, sorry

I have another smurf oc but she came from the idea that Grouchy was supposed to be delivered to a different village as a baby, where all the smurfs there are sour and miserable

He was delivered to a happy village as the only grouchy smurf, while a different smurf had been to the miserable village as the only positive and happy one, having been accidentally swapped

They meet in the forest one day and he takes her back to his village, having discovered the existence of another village and somehow they find out that she was supposed to be delivered to Papa's village rather than the one she grew up in

Idk, I'm gonna draw her, and if I have the energy (I probably wont, lets be honest) I might make a comic

Watching my dvd of the 1981 series and I still cant get over moments where Papa acts like a father rather than the village leader

I'm on 'The Smurf Apprentice' where Clumsy turns himself into a monster/ dragon thing, and when he returns to the village, everyone runs away because they think he's a monster

But Papa barely even takes one look at him and immediately knows it's Clumsy

Like yeah, that's his son, that's his boy, of course he knows him from barely a glance ughgg
