SNOWFALL SCRIPT FULL GUIDE

I tried to make things as clear as possible, so please feel free to use! I based it off of English, but I added some diacritics/accent mark options as well. There's a stitched together version at the bottom, so if you want to download them all, you can download 2 images instead of 8! :D

I just. Love Mando’a so fucking much. It’s so great.

They have three different words to describe ways to be stabbed. Bikadinir (to stab with a broad blade; “run through”), chekar (to stab with a small blade, “shiv”), and kalikir (to stab with a narrow blade, “skewer”).

They have one pronoun. Kaysh. That’s it. Buir is just parent, there’s no mom/dad. No son/daughter, just ad, ad’ika, ikaad. Child. Vod can mean sibling, friend, comrade. All at once. Amazing.

They have dozens of ways to insult someone. Di’kut, someone who forgets to put their pants on. Utreekov, emptyhead. Najaat, no honor. Dini, lunatic. Kaysh mirsh solus, “their brain cell is lonely.” Skanah, “much hated person/thing.” Hut’uun, coward. Ge’hut’uun, not even notable enough to be called a coward (how insulting is that?). Demagolka, originating from Demagol, the name of a scientist who was so fucking shitty that his name became the worst insult a Mandalorian could call you. And that insult is child abuser, monster, war criminal, someone with no honor.

And then there’s “shab”, which we don’t have an official definition for, but the fandom collectively agrees it means “fuck.” Because we have shabiir (to screw up), shab’la (screwed up), shab’rudur (to screw with), and shabuir (jerk but much stronger, AKA asshole/motherfucker).

And Mando’ade don’t say “I love you.” They say “Ni kar’tayli gar darasuum.” I hold you in my heart for eternity. Like. Are you serious. That’s so much better than “I love you.” If someone said that to me I would die on the spot.

Mirshmure’cya means “brain kiss.” Slang for headbutt, which is a thing Mando’ade do a lot, apparently. And it’s a sign of affection, too. They show affection by gently bonking their helmets together. How adorable is that???

Oh, and shereshoy. A lust for life “and much more.” Represented by orange on their armor. “The enjoyment of each day and the determination to seek and grab every possible experience, as well as surviving to see the next day - hanging onto life and relishing it.” And that “oy” at the end of it, derived from “Oya!”

“Oya”, which can mean so many things. A war cry before a fight or hunt. A celebration. An encouragement. “Let’s hunt!” “Hoorah!” “Cheers!” “That’s the spirit!”

This post got much longer than I meant it to lol. I’ll stop here. But you get the gist. Mando’a is a wonderful language and I am in love with it.

Okay, so, I'm just rambling, but I genuinely dislike using the pictograms from Rain World phonetically. Although I'm trying to learn them, the only way I can actually understand the language is through pictography, not phonetically. I fundamentally feel like the symbols used as hieroglyphs can be used in conjunction with the pictograms, but not interchangeably.

@amostdelectablescribbler has an absolutely wonderful guide to using the pictograms phonetically (as hieroglyphs), but when I try to read it, it just feels... wrong? Not that reading them in this way is wrong per se (I find it truly fascinating!), but it's fundamentally wrong.

Moon's symbol is composed of Karma 3, companionships, broken by a rombus and Karma 4, greed. To me, this reads as many friends-significant-love. The rhombus is also seen in the glyph for No Significant Harassment, leading to scug brain tying the shape to significance, and karma 3 + 4 combo quite literally meaning greedy for friends. She wants to befriend everyone if she can, hence being a big sister figure and friend-shaped to the scugs.

Generally, the parts that make up these glyphs have their own meaning, and combinations create new meaning. It's kind of like Toki Pona crossed with Norse Bind Runes.

Now I have my vices with some of these translations, but this is quite literally attempting to interpret a language with only a few confirmed translations, vague implications on murals, and scrapped content (like the boombox mural).

So, of course, we slug cat scholars will have our differing opinions.

Karma 0 (the O) to me is generally interpreted as "self." It can mean "peace" or "karma" depending on context. Like the pilgrimage, to me, means discovery of self. And related synonyms, like "enlightenment of self" or "knowledge of self," as the primary symbol generally comes off as scholar and related academic terms—learning.

I'm also convinced all you rainworlders are terrified of watcher. No one ever talks about RIPPLES. THE ROT PRINCE. THE HOLY LORE.

I've seen more complaints about the campaign than appreciation just because they can't read porls (*pearls) with big sister. TwT

The symbols for ripples are the honest to god context needed to figure out the words in Pebble's array, but it requires analysis of the pictograms, not their phonetics. I'm so close to unlocking this... so close... *incoherent scug noises*

I would ramble more, but I have 18 physical pages of notes from rambling to friends today, and some godforsaken part of me said, post on tumblr! Get the rainworld linguists to comment! So I already offered my Ripple translations to the renowned rainworld linguist and will be flopping until my social battery comes back from nonexistence. I think Ruffles stole it. Or the void sea ate it.

Hello um.

Dragon language where gender is based on the nature of the dragon’s hoard.

ALLOW ME TO ELABORATE (there is also a very pretty dragon lady below the cut I promise.)

Ok so. I’m not the sort of person who makes up languages for fun. That is not the sort of hobby that appeals to me.

BUT. I was designing this here beautiful lady (see kept my promise)(she hoards teacups. The sword technically belongs to her girlfriend)

When I had the silly brain thought and it is refusing to leave so now I present it here to you:

Dragon genders.

There’s five main genders—as well as a few others we’ll get into later—each based off the classification of the dragon’s hoard:

Wealth (gold, jewels, currency)

Wisdom (mostly books, but also other forms of recorded media)

Labour (tools, weapons, craft supplies)

Life (plants, creatures, food)

And Beauty (art, trinkets, garments)

Each of these has its own set of pronouns attached.

Aside from these categories, there are the three hoardless genders; that which is used to refer to young children, that used to refer respectfully to adults without a hoard or members of other sentient species, and the highly offensive basically-a-slur one.

But the highest insult of all is to say that an individual’s hoard isn’t valid. You just don’t go there.

The Proxinian Alphabet

I present to you the Proxinian alphabet, with pronouns and everything, for extra woke. I had, for no particular reason, looked up why the O in the Alternian alphabet looked like the O on the poster for the game Oblivion, only to find out it was because Alternia's alphabet was just Daedric flipped upside down. Pretty funny shit. Anyway, I decided then to make a Proxinian one. I won't disclose how much thought was put into this, so it could easily just be scribbles, or very well thought out. Who knows. ⁱ ᵈᵒ

Also also, here's a poem. I will not tell you what it says, but you are free to try to figure it out.

Also also also, if you have any suggestions for what I could add to this alphabet, you are more than welcome to suggest something or make something of your own. There's an 89.9% chance I will canonize it immediately.
