It has been a long time that I haven’t tried to play neopets but I checked it out since my neopets might be hungry. I tried spinning the wheel and I got the Pant Devil. I was expecting that neopoints would be stolen or foods like omelette or jelly but I was surprised to see that nothing is stolen and I saw the message: “Pant Devil cackles insanely, but you have no items to steal!

I like Dot Arena app because it is interactive game. It has interesting game that I can play for hours. I tried to explore the arenas, the guild stores and try different features of the game. My favorite character is Eva because of the cool stuff that she can do to support other team members. What about you? Who is your favorite character in Dot Arena? What I don’t like about this game? - It is addicting - It is time consuming - My gadget feels hot to touch when playing for hours - I could not play it offline Although the game has disadvantages, it has a lot of fun features to try.

Is Free choice website a scam or not?

I received free choice.p*, which promises Apple giveaway. I like the idea of having free Apple gadgets like iMac, iPhone 6 or iPad air but I am also having a second thoughts of taking this opportunity that it is too good to be true.

I edited the screenshot of the e-mail to maintain its privacy.

I checked the website and I found out that it is registered in Denmark and not in Asia. Then I checked the search engines about the legitimate or scam review of the website, which gave me the e-mail. It is a good thing that I found out online advice that internet users should carefully check for the rating of the websites and other important details like telephone numbers, etc. 

I am not sure why should I subscribe again to the newsletter but I opted to unsubscribe the newsletter just to be sure.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (The Little Match Girl)

10. The Little Match Girl

This fairy tale is an original story, which was written by Hans Christian Andersen without any direct folkloric influence. It was inspired by the childhood experience of author's mother, who was often sent out into the streets to beg as a child.

In the classic story, a poor girl tried to sell matches in the street on a cold New Year's eve. She stayed in a nook and lighted the matches to warm herself. When she lit the match, she saw a vision of her loving grandmother. Unfortunately, she ran out of the matches, she was frozen and found dead in the nook by the passers-by.

In other version, the girl stayed alive and received divine gifts for her charitable act. Another version suggested that the little match girl does not die because generous people rescued her from hunger and cold.

My Experience

I like reading fairy tales because some stories have moral lessons and happy endings. Although I did not read too many tales when I was a child, it seems a good thing to continue to be realistic and optimistic.

It seemed good that I appreciated the fairy tales as literature when I was in college. Although the original tales were shocking, these tales had modern versions that were suitable for children of all ages.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (The Pied Piper of Hamelin)

9. The Pied Piper of Hamelin

The story started at a village that was invaded by rats. A man, who wore a clothes of pied (a patchwork of colors), made an offer to get rid of the vermin in the town.

The villagers hired him in exchange of vast sum of money if the piper successfully do the job. He played music using his pipe, which attracted the rats and drew them out of the town. When he asked for his payment, the villagers refused to pay for his service. Then the Pied Piper sought revenge by getting rid the kids in the town. In the original version, the piper lured the kids to a river, where they all drowned except three kids. These three kids included the lame, the deaf and the blind.

In the other version, the Pied Piper led the kids to a cave out of the town. When the villagers finally agree to pay several times the original amount of gold for his service , he sent them back. And the moral lesson of the story: always try to keep your promise to other people.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Beauty and the Beast)

8. Beauty and the Beast

The first published version was a rendition of traditional fairy tale, which was written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.

Belle had two evil sisters. When Beast permitted the Belle to travel home as long as she stayed for a week. When her jealous sisters learned about her luxurious life, they tried to convince her to stay with them longer than a week. They hoped that the Beast will eat Belle alive upon her return after being furious with her.

In the other story, it included Belle and the Beast except the story involved a seduction and murder. The Beast was a prince who was left by his royal mother in care of an evil fairy. When he became an adult, the fairy attempted to seduce him. He was turned into a beast after declining the move. And Belle was not a merchant's daughter but the daughter of a king and a good fairy. The fairy attempted to murder Belle so she could tie a knot with her father. Belle replace the place of the merchant's dead daughter. She also provide the castle some magic that contained more essential pieces of it.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Little Red Riding Hood)

7. Little Red Riding Hood

This fairy tale could be originated to versions from various European countries. It appeared to be very different from the familiar story that everyone knew.

In early version, the villain was not always a wolf because the story included ogre or a werewolf. Perhaps these tales were related to werewolf-trials at that time. The wolf left grandmother's blood and meat for the girl to consume. Then the wolf asked the girl to disrobe and toss her clothes into the fire. In some versions, the story ended as the wolf ate the girl after getting into bed with him. In other version, the girl realized the wolf's disguise and attempted to get away. The wolf unwillingly let her go and tied her with a piece of string. She escaped without any help from other characters in the story.

It seemed that the tale In the French version, which was written by Charles Perrault, was also surprising. In the story, there was a young lady, who accepted a false instructions by the wicked wolf after she asked the way to her grandmother's house. The red riding hood girl took the advice of the wolf and the story ended when she was eaten by the animal. Unfortunately, the story did not include the woodsman and grandmother. And the moral lesson of the story: do not take advice from strangers.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Sleeping Beauty)

6. Sleeping Beauty

I only know that the modern version of "Sleeping Beauty" was beautiful since she was awaken by a kiss of her charming prince. In Giambattista Basile's version of this fairy tale appeared to be a bit shocking.

The sleeping beauty is called Talia. Instead of pricking her finger on a spindle, a poisonous flax caused her long deep sleep after getting it stuck under her fingernail. Her father could not accept that he will lose her so he laid her body on a bed in one of his estates. Then a king discovered her while hunting in the woods. When she failed to wake her up, he did a horrible deed and impregnated her. She conceived and gave birth to two kids. One of her kids accidentally sucked the splinter out of her finger, which eventually waked her up. The father of kids was already married and his wife ordered the cook to kids. Fortunately, the cook did not follow her and served a lamb instead. Then Talia was invited by the Queen, who planned to burn her alive. But the King discovered the plan and ordered his wife to be burned. The story ended in a happy ending: the king tied a knot with Talia and they living happily ever after.

In the second part of Charles Perrault-penned story, the prince has a stepmother, who had an ogre lineage. The Ogress Queen Mother sent Sleeping Beauty and the children to a house secluded in the woods. The Queen Mother ordered the cook to prepare the kids with Sauces Robert as dishes for her dinner. The cook hid the kids and substitute them with a lamb and a goat. When the Ogress wanted the Sleeping Beauty to be served as a dish, the latter suggested her throat to be slit so that she could be with her kids, who were believed to be dead. The cook decided to use a hind to replace her. Later, the Ogress found out the truth and prepared a tub in the courtyard, which contained vipers and other noxious creatures. The prince returned and the plan was discovered. The Ogress was fully consumed after she threw herself into the tub. Everyone else lived happily ever after.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (The Girl Without Hands)

5. The Girl Without Hands / Handless Maiden

The altered version of this fairy tale has enough differences to tell. In the new version, a poor man is presented wealth by the devil if he will give him whatever is standing behind his mill. The man agreed since he thought it was an apple tree.

Unfortunately, it was his daughter behind the mill. When the devil attempted to take the daughter, he was unable to do it because she was pure. Then, he threatened to take the father unless the daughter allowed her father to chop off her hands. She agreed and the father did the horrible deed.

In early version, the maiden's loss of hands happened when she refused the malicious advances of her father or her brother. The father chops off the daughter's hands after refusing. In explaining the maiden's dismemberment, another version explained that her brother commented that the maiden's beauty lied on the loveliness of her hands. Instead of a poor man, it was the daughter who cut it herself in the chivalric romance, which the King tried to marry his daughter. It appeared that a law won't allow a king to marry any woman without any part of her body.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Hansel And Gretel)

4. Hansel and Gretel

The modern version of this fairy tale is already tragic — the wicked stepmother abandoned the kids to die in the forest, they found a cannibalistic witch’s home and killed the witch for a chance to escape.

A version of this story, which was called Little Brother and Little sister, it was the siblings' parents, who abandoned them. When the original folk tale was made, parents used to abandon their children frequently because of the famine.

Instead of having a cannibalistic witch, the villain is the devil in other early French version, which was called "The Lost Children." The devil wants the kids to bleed on a sawhorse. The kids pretended not to know how so the devil ordered his wife to show them. Then the kids quickly slit her throat, stole the devil's money and escaped.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Snow White)

3. Snow White

Snow White is a popular story, which includes the wicked stepmother, magic mirror and seven dwarves. In the original version of Grimm brothers, the stepmother is Snow White's real mother.

The Queen ordered the huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and bring back her liver and lungs, which the royal cooked and ate. In other folklorist version, the Queen took Snow White to the woods. Instead of gathering flowers, the royal abandoned her.

When the Queen learned that Snow White was still alive, she attempted to kill her. In the third attempt, the royal gave her the poisoned apple. When the prince discovered her, Snow White is dead and not in a deep sleep. Fortunately, the poisoned apple was removed from the throat when the prince's servant stumbled and dislodged the coffin. There is a gruesome end for the Queen, she was forced to wear a burning shoes and to dance until she dropped dead. The modern version of this fairy tale is believed to be a milder version intended for children.

Trivia:

Eckhard Sander, who is a German scholar, suggested a theory that the Grimm’s story of "Snow White" was inspired on the real-life story of a countess named Margarete von Waldeck, who lived in the early 16th century.

Tragic Original Versions Of Fairy Tales (Cinderella)

2. Cinderella

Many people are familiar with Cinderella, who had wicked stepmother and two step sisters then she fell in love with the prince. This fairy tale had interesting origins and variations.

It could be traced in the 1st century BC and the lead character's name was Rhodopis, not Cinderella. It had similarities to the modern one except for the glass slippers and pumpkin coach.

The beautiful story was changed into more gruesome version by the Grimm brothers. In the Grimm version, the step sisters were ordered to slice off their heels with a knife, forced their feet into the glass slippers, bore the pain and went out to the prince. The little pigeons reveal their secret when they cooed that the blood were seen in the shoe and stained their white stocking. And the birds pecked out the stepsisters' eyes for their trickery. They ended up as blind beggars while Cinderella enjoys luxurious life at the prince’s castle.

In Charles Perrault's version was more nice because the two stepsisters tied the knot with members of the royal court after Cinderella is properly married to the charming prince.
