These rules are pretty simple and are in place to ensure fairness in this fun holiday activity. We don’t want people joining just to get gifts for free without doing their part.

Gifts should be in the form of fanart, fanfiction/drabbles, or gifs/edits. If you want to post your art/stories somewhere else (DA, AO3, FF.net), please submit it as a link. Gift givers and receivers can discuss in their own time if they’d like physical forms of their gifts afterwards.

Be aware that if you do say yes to being a backup-Santa, you’ll have to work on more than one gift. I have something in store for those who do fulfill these obligations so you don’t feel like you’re doing more work and only receiving one gift.

Everyone will be assigned a number, and Random.org will be used to pair you up. This may be changed if there’s someone who isn’t interested in doing certain subject matters.

The deadline for signing up to be a Secret Santa is SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2ND 2018 11.59 PM ET.

Assignments will be given out on MONDAY, DECEMBER 3RD.

The deadline for gifts is DECEMBER 23RD 2018 11.59 PM ET. For those who have holiday obligations and will be late or you’ll be unable to complete your gift, please send us a note by DECEMBER 16TH 2018 so that we can find someone to be a backup Secret Santa.

All gifts will be added to the queue and posted on DECEMBER 25TH.

Slackers will not receive their gifts. Gift givers will be informed, and they’re free to do what they want with the content they created.

Once completed, please send us your gift through the Submit link, along with the name/URL of the person who it’s for.

If there are any gifts that are not safe for work, please tick the “;nsfw” box when submitting so that people can block it from their dashes. (please block “;nsfw” if you don’t want to see such content)

This is all supposed to be in the holiday spirit, so please be patient, be kind, and do your best.

It was nice to be away from all of the distractions of the world for once, returning to a kind of simplicity Magda never thought she would miss; it was nice, quiet, and peaceful, and made even better by sharing it with someone she knew would appreciate it much the same. Lifting her cup to her lips to take a drink, she realized too late that it was empty, and had to resort to setting it back down awkardly, still in want of a drink. There was only a moment between her eyes locking into the pitcher and the impulse that told her hand to reach for it, but in that moment Deneb beat her to it. 

Surprised, she let her hand fall back into her lap and watched her glass slowly fill. “Oh- thank you, you didn’t have to…”

That made much more sense; it didn’t matter what race they were, the Eldrid were loyal to the people and the land they belonged to. No doubt the Varelsi threat had driven the Eldrid farther from home than any of them ever thought they would. They would always have a place to go back to, though, if Solus didn’t get swallowed up.

Magda hummed thoughtfully, thinking back on her food knowledge. “The Arcanum has a surprisingly extensive collection of food recipes, I think I can remember some of the desserts. There are some that are lighter, a little sweet, they might work well after something as powerful in flavor as this dish.” She took another bite, gradually adjusting to the heat that came with each mouthful. “If I can wrangle the ingredients together I think I can make something. Do you like tea?”

“Ar... kay numb?” Deneb had never heard that word before and couldn’t fathom what it even referred to. Meals with her people were passed down by word of mouth, not written down since reading just wasn’t their thing. Tea, however, brought a smile to her face. “If you have black, yes.” She always loved the sting of bitter black tea and the way it lightly buzzed her mind with a little caffeine. “Would you require help in making this dish? I’m pretty good at following instructions, and it could be a joint venture.”

Those boots definitely weren’t going to fit her feet, even if they were a size 57. Something about the way the insoles felt against her paw pads was just… unsettling.The shorts, by far, were the most comfortable part of the entire outfit, with enough room in the legs to accommodate her size, and pockets large enough to carry the things she needed to keep on hand. The shirt, however, was stifling, and she kept tugging on the collar to get the fabric away from her neck. The hat was practically useless, perched on her head between her ears and offering no shade from the glaring sun.“I… would much prefer my top and loin cloth, please.”

          “Oh…” Kaia said, running a hand through her hair, she will have to make it a point to add yellow to her attire so that it would easy for Deneb to see the small Ischyros. “I could add some gold jewelry to my attire, maybe that would make me shine,” The queen wanted to appeal to the large feline, maybe Kaia could learn about Deneb’s species customs next. At the thought, the small female began to move faster, a grin on her visage. “Do you mean the place where I set up camp? Well… I haven’t been there long, but the terrain is similar to my home planet.”

“It’s not necessary, but I won’t stop you. You’re still easy to pick out of a crowd. Or the underbrush.” This woman was so tiny, Deneb had to hold back on her strides so as not to surpass her or step on her. “This... would be easier if you gave me directions, yes?” She dropped to one knee and curled her arm close to the ground to serve as a stepping stool for the woman. Deneb’s steps through the uneven terrain were more sure than anyone else’s.

A laugh burst from Diego as her words sounded, the laugh was just as booming as the last and being so close to his loud friend made Damon’s ears lower deeply, slanted blues signifying his annoyance and pain from Diego’s glee. “Oh, that’s rich, that’s good,” the Aplian voiced in between his laughter. Though the Xantrophn found little amusement to Deneb’s oblivious statement he wasn’t about to go rearing from it. His golden gaze looked from the large blue feline a look of annoyance before rolling his eyes. “Ok, ok Diego. We get it.” Damon spoke for himself mostly realizing that she might not have gotten it from the way she handled his friend’s comment. Either way, Diego didn’t need to make a laughing stock of her for a simple misunderstanding.

“Oh, a Torao!” He proclaimed as if he knew the species well, in which he didn’t. His chuckles soon ceased at the instant interest he experienced. Damon pulled his hand away from Deneb’s soft grasp gently resting it on the counter all the while watching as Diego leaned back on the stool he sat in. “That sounds cool, mind telling me more about them? I might recognize them being that I travel a lot. Might’ve stumbled across some Torao at one time.”

Damon merely shook his head adverting his attention back to the menu that was laid out in front of him. A low hum rumbled his throat as Deneb questioned what was good. He wasn’t sure what she liked and personality didn’t know whether some foods were sickening for her like some was for him. “I normally like the steak and fish sections but if you want a real kick I’d look towards the Marikal Carnisia.” Though the actual title was called Steak, Cheese, & Bacon Sandwich under the lunch menu, Damon just preferred to use the nickname he gave it in his native tongue which translated to Amazing Steak. Using a golden talon he pointed to it on the menu to guide her to where it was. “It’s really good and I know Kaia likes to make it really juicy for us carnivores.”

“Near impossible, I’m afraid. If you’d stumbled on our kind, you would have had your head separated from your shoulders long ago. We stay in hiding for a reason.” Deneb replied, not lifting her eyes from the menu. None of the names she could read, but she could recognize some dishes as meat. ... then she realized she had no money. “Before I order, would it be in bad taste to ask you to cover my costs? I’ll make it up to you in the future.” Her word was good for it, but this Damon didn’t know her from jack. To be nice, she selected something from the menu that didn’t look too expensive but was hardly sufficient to satisfy a creature of her size. It was only then she turned her attention to Diego, her nose wrinkling in slight amusement. “Perhaps you can tell me what makes you humans so much larger than the others. A mutation perhaps? Growth hormones?”

A long day in the lab called for a nice night of relaxation, anything to break away from her pages of notes and test results. Cleaning up, she managed to get almost all of the blood out of her skirt, leaving a few faint spots here and there, before leaving the medical bay. She hummed quietly to herself until she spotted the Torao, looking remarkably neater than usual. 

“What’s the occasion?” she asked, raising curious eyebrows.

Looking up from her work she studied Deneb thoughtfully, humming to herself. She had forgotten the tape measure, and none of her measuring tools were meant for the kind of measurements she would take otherwise. She scolded herself mentally for the mistake; it would slow her down, but her exceptional intellect would hopefully be enough to make up for it. “You shouldn’t doubt me. If I can give sentience back to the Thrall I can make an outfit that isn’t going to make you look like an Eldrid sausage. Now, what is traditional for your people? I was thinking a long tunic and some sort of leggings, something that will move with you without having to worry about any social missteps. At least none on account of your dress.”

Leggings sounded complicated and stifling, but the Torao wasn’t about to argue with her. She’d know better about what looked good around here than some Eldrid creature who wore so little. “Anything with the arms free and enough room for my neck would be appreciated.” She brought herself closer to the other’s level by taking a seat, glad that someone was taking the time to make her look good instead of allowing her to run around looking like a fool.

The whooshing increased in frequency, more and more small blobs of flame being summoned and thrown at the bolder Thrall that were beginning to alight on the one she was attacking, attempting to save their fellow from the ‘phantom’ assailant; cover fire to keep them at bay, and to stall the inevitable hail of gunfire. Most Thrall were piss poor shots, but if this many started shooting in their general vicinity, they were guaranteed to be hit.

The hand still fisting her fur soon detached and K’ let himself hang backwards, kept firmly in place by his legs and her tail. And getting an upside down view of an encroaching swarm of primals from their blind spot directly behind them. His hand lashed out, a large wave of fire buffeting the slobbering creatures right in their toothy faces. Their attempts to skid to a stop to avoid it were in vain, more and more squeals splitting the air as those behind the initial wall crashed into them, pushing them further into the hungry flames, and getting consumed in turn.

The sudden appearance of flames on either side of her made her recoil in slight fear, her ears flattened against her skull and her teeth bare. But there was nothing to lash out at, the source of their appearance the very rider on her back and they were supposed to be helping each other. Fear did fill her when she felt his grip loosen, and she was about to one-eighty to catch his small form when she felt the heat of his attack wash over her rear and haunches. So he was still in place - thank Aztanti - but the waves of warmth left her feeling even more uneasy. Wanting to end this quickly, another wipe of her claws raked against the Thrall’s all ruined arm and knocked the turret from his hands. Deneb sounded a furious roar as she bullrushed him, her head and shoulders low as she crushed him against the side of the large tree just behind him. Anything smaller, and it would have splintered and cracked under their combined weights. Instead, the cracking sound came from the Thrall himself, and he gasped for air, a broken rib having found its way into his lung.

"Promises and pie crusts are made to be broken.” Deneb sat looking dejected with her short legs sticking out before her and half a pie on her lap.

Alani took a look around to who the tiger could be speaking to, but with no one else paying her any mind, it seemed she was talking to her.  Sitting down cross legged in front of her, her eyes on the crumbled pie.  “Well, a crumbled pie still tastes just as good as a whole one,” she muttered as she looked up to Deneb’s gaze in thoughtful concern.  “But promises are a bit tougher to mend.  What happened?”

Her neat line of rocks hid among the bricks nicely, one would almost think they were an intended decoration if the row were not so short.  Alani sighed with Deneb’s pessimistic answer.  “Maybe?  I’m not sure what he has in the way of funding and people though,” she admitted as she gathered up the torches into her arms, smudging the charcoal against her white top and her bright skin.  “With the efforts to help Ekkunar, supress the Varelsi on Bliss, and also whatever we’re doing on Tempest, I think the Battleborn are stretched thin?”

She stood up and stretched her back, a small groan worked its way out of her for her effort.  But, it was cut short by a curious ping of her nanobots.  Putting her finger to her lips, she whispered, “someone’s coming.”  Despite the smudge of black now across her turquoise lips, she set the torches aside with a deliberate motion and listened.  “Two humans, an aviant and a magnus…”

Deneb huffed with a low growl. Of course, this war came first and there was probably very little to spare just to save some insignificant shrine that did nothing in the way of helping them gain victory over the situation. At this rate, there would likely be no Aztanti relics left in the universe, and where would that leave her people? She was about to retort when the small healer hushed her to silence. Her ears pricked and twitched in various directions to seek out these trespassers. There was a light baring of teeth when she snatched Alani up in her arms, hugged tight against her chest, and faded out of existence. If they were lucky enough and stood perfectly still, they could catch them unawares. Unfortunately, Deneb had no idea what a magnus was nor what kind of skills one possessed, and it was too late to ask once the four finally came into view.

There was an idea! He knew Kaia was working on something for the other planets so she could get more business, but the timid little one didn’t know how to be outgoing as her lover was. Deneb had made a point that some advertising was an important thing to let the Ischyros’ business flourish in other areas of the Solus System. Damon could do it for the little one if he so pleased though wasn’t sure on how the big name companies would feel about his appearance or the way he presented himself. The Xantrophn wasn’t one for business but he knew someone who could help with that. No doubt the most LLC looking person he knew aside from the ones assigned to the faction.

“Such a pretty kitty to join us.” Diego boomed, clapping his hands on the counter. His brown gaze rested on Deneb’s golden slits, the grin on his lips spreading further. “You’re always good with the ladies Damon, I’m surprised she isn’t wrapped around your finger.”

The king merely shook his head at his friend’s statement having just met the Torao. “Uh, newly acquainted, Diego. Newly acquainted.” Swiftly, the Xantrophn lowered to his haunches before bouncing up onto the seat next to his friend. “So, what’s your name? Damon’s being a good boy, right?” His ears perked hearing the Aplian’s words, a low growl rumbled his chest as Diego played mother. He seemed to always have that concern for him, be it playful or not. “I’m doing just fine, I don’t need you to be a mother hen.” Though Damon’s bitter tone wasn’t noticed seeing how Diego was looking solely at Deneb.

“That would be impossible, given my size. Nor am I that flexible.” To make her point, she grabbed Damon’s hand and held it up for the other to see, as if he couldn’t realize how asinine his statement sounded. Her gaze still fixed on the larger man, she released Damon’s hand, completely oblivious as to what Diego was getting at. Nothing he said was really making sense. “And as appreciative as I am for the compliment, I am not a ‘kitty.’ I’m a Torao.” Despite the smile on his face - or because of it -  Deneb wasn’t sure she liked or trusted the man, and refused to provide him her name. She was tempted to excuse herself and leave the two friends to their conversation. Accepting his invitation was starting to feel like a mistake. Her tail curled around the base of the chair to keep it out of the way and out of slight irritation. Her large, furry elbow nudged Damon in the side as she gestured at the menu. “What would you recommend?”

Her tail curled around her waist as she stared down at the Roa, her eyes narrowed with suspicion.“It’s not for sale,” she hissed.

“Yeah, I think so?”  Desserts were another mythical thing that turned to mush on his palette, though some had a sour tingle or a pleasant bitterness he found appealing.  To think, the Torao was sharing something special with him and he could not share the enjoyment of it. 

“Let me try another one, maybe I got a dud?”  Selecting another petal, he made a point to pluck the biggest and plumpest one he could.  Surely, he should be able to enjoy this one.  The thin membrane clung to his tongue and he tapped it right to the roof of his mouth to taste… nada.  His shoulders dropped in embarrassment.  “‘T’s not that I’m not fond of it, love.  I just… I think ‘t’s supposed to taste “sweet,” but I can’t taste it.”

“Mmm.” She absentmindedly placed another in her mouth, forgetful of how bad these things really were. She soon caught herself in her fourth taking of a petal before she shut the box and placed it to one side. Her white muzzle was now stained entirely pink from the continuous licking of her chops. “Perhaps a feast of meat, then. To make up for this lack of a gift.” Her ears perked erect, and pupils narrowed into curious slits. The end of her tail fluffed and flicked in agitated movements, eager to share her new idea. “A hunt. There are perhaps many things around Ekkunar you haven’t yet feasted on. Would that be an acceptable replacement?” And it would give her the chance to stretch her legs and put her size and power to full use, instead of being cramped on these small ships.
