the performance of PHON in the SA election is so interesting because even though they have ~ 20% of the primary vote, they're so dispersed that they're at most getting 3 seats in the lower house and like 2 upper house which is bad but it will depend on preference flows. There is a real chance they'll under perform despite their numbers.

I have been wondering if the One Neuron phenomenon is actually the country moving right, or more related to a genuine protest vote against the Liberals. There are likely many many rusted on Liberal voters who would never vote for Labor in a million years, let alone Greens …
These voters must be heartily sick of how feckless (f*ing useless) the Liberals have become. Along comes bright new shiny thing being pumped up by their favourite media (A curse on Murdoch and his ilk) which if you don’t look too closely at their policies and kinda squint at their candidates has got some curb appeal (yes, they’re a turd rolled in glitter - but hey “shiny new thing”) … I expect they’ll very quickly discover that One Nation are just as useless at the Liberals when it comes down to it. Especially when the party implodes just like it has before.
SA has some history with this. In 2018 SA-Best (led by charismatic shyster Nick Xenophon, who was also renowned for his media stunts) was the talk of the town and was going to sweep everyone off the table … they got 19% of the vote, but zero lower house seats (I think they got a 1 or 2 of upper house seats) … and immediately imploded. At the time of writing (2026 election + 4 days of counting) out of 1,317,186 enrolled electors, SA-best have 227 votes in the lower house.
Bernardi has a history of riding someone’s ticket to the upper house and then abandoning them just so he can sit as an independent for the rest of his term. Who’s got a book running on how long it is before he has a falling out with Pauline? Can’t imagine him wanting to follow a female leader.
