Logan Lerman for GQ Magazine - 2014
a con a day keeps the doctor away { closed w/ ben }
A choke of smoke leaves his lungs, cigarette held in another hand as the first comes up to cover his lips, shaking his head. He'd never really choked before. But, maybe it was just too damn cold to be smoking -- the cold and the smoke not mixing well for this throat. He sighed and shifted blue hues around until he spotted who he was looking for.
Tall. Scrawny. Ben Holmes. How could he get his attention?
He put out his cigarette on the ground and just as soon curled over, holding his side as he started coughing -- hard. Hell, it wasn't all fake, either. He really needed to stop smoking. His doctor had told him that when he started testosterone. And he had quit for a while. But, after being in Wonderland for so long with Hell going on around them, it was hard to keep calm usually. So, now he was hacking, nearly falling over. Hopefully this Holmes kid had a conscience.
Not terrible looking? Hm, must explain why it’s so easy to get the girls, then. It’s fun when it’s your first time and you’re a little drunk, but when it’s with me.. I’ll let you fill in the gaps.
Ah? Well, plenty more for me then.
————≺♠≻—————
’ I'm sure you're quite the charmer.
I'll be sure to lead the women your way. ‘
Ya tempting me?
Plenty of girls in Wonderland, you must have had your finger on at least one.
————≺♠≻—————
’ You're not terrible lookin'. I'm sure it'd be fun.
Hah. No, I leave that to the others. ‘
Or maybe a warm body to sleep with.
————≺♠≻—————
’ Oh yeah? You offerin'? ‘
Because it’s January.
And where is home for you, Chris?
————≺♠≻—————
' Doesn't matter. I live here now, don't I? I just need a heavier jacket. '
I should be in relationships less often. Here’s some advice, live alone forever. Relationships lead to marriage, marriage leads to divorce, divorce leads to your ex-wife throwing piss fits about your life choices.
————≺♣≻—————
’ I don't really know how I'd even go about dating. I lie to everyone I know, so I don't really thing it would be the wisest thing to do on my part. --Why are you even still talking to your ex? Isn't the point of an ex to... well.... 'x' them out of your life? ‘
Relationship problems? Do I look like a man with relationship problems?
————≺♣≻—————
’ Does anyone? You look more like a man who's not usually in a relationship. ‘
Sure. I guess. If it’s gonna be one of those personal talks, I can’t promise any sort of heart to heart shit.
————≺♣≻—————
’ And here I was, thinking we could talk about our relationship problems. ‘
O p e n
————≺♣≻—————
’ Can I talk to you? ‘
"Her name is Magdalen Rhodes, better known as Baby. She was a witness when all that money went missing. I believe that she knows more that she’s saying and I’d like you to find out what."
————≺♣≻—————
’ Magdalen? I know her. She-- well. I'm sure getting something out of her won't be a problem. She likes me -- as far as I can tell, at least. And, she has no idea who I am. So. She knows something about the money? I'll try my best. ‘
"I need you to gain a girl’s trust."
————≺♣≻—————
’ That all? Who? ‘
O p e n
————≺♣≻—————
’ So, what exactly is it you're wanting me to do here? ‘
You can get your own damn coffee, then.
————≺♣≻—————
’ Ah, shit. Sorry. I didn't know it was you. ‘
O P E N
————≺♣≻—————
’ For the love of God, would you please stop talking? I'm already hung over. I don't want to be pissed off, too. ‘
Thanks for the tip, coach. Though, you know, walking up to you in a busy street hardly counts for sneaky behavior.
So what’s your business here? That smile might work on underage girls, but I know your kind.
————≺♣≻—————
’ I'm on watch. It's part of, you know, figuring out people's schedules. -- What the Hell do you mean your kind? ‘
Makes you a beacon?
————≺♣≻—————
’ No, I make the best bacon. ‘
