*GASP*
I spent so much time on this that I feel like I should marry it. I literally giggled with joy once it was finally finished. Gahdamn.
It all started with that 4th panel which was just a lone drawing at first… and then the rest of the comic just sorta happened, in which Cas somehow gets stuck in his true form, but on the physical plane. (And yes, there is a very strategic Impala head amidst his manifestations, haha) There are still so many tweaks/fixes I could do but I got sick of looking at it so I’m calling it done, lol.
I LOVE hearing comments, so tell me what you think! How do you picture Cas’ true form? :D
PS: The spell Dean is holding says something like “the vessel is unbound” or something, I dunno. Don’t quote me on that, it’s just bullshit that looks pretty, hahah :D
(Pretty please don’t repost | Visit my main account @lizleeillustration | If you like my work, consider buying me a Kofi? )
Also, bonus panel because I cannot take anything seriously:
@blueeyestrenchcoat cont. x:
Cas smiled. “Not much, to be honest. Sam and Dean believe they have a lead on getting to the other world that doesn’t involve Lucifer, but it’s uncertain if it will work or not. I haven’t seen or heard from Lucifer since the first time he came to me, and we haven’t had any evidence of him being active anyway, so it seems as though whatever he’s up to is passive for the moment.”
“I severely doubt it will, but let them try.” He didn’t really care about the Winchesters anymore - the only thing he cared about was whether Lucifer knew he was alive and in hiding or not. His only concern was his very own survival. “Good, I’d assume there’s plans to take care of him, I’ll be looking forward to his destruction.” Once and for all. “But you didn’t come all the way out here to chat about Lucifer and the Winchesters, did you?”
“If I find him, I would like to kill him. He’s done too much to us to be allowed to continue.” Cas looked up at Crowley. “No, I came here because I missed you, and it’s nice to be able to spend time with you. And, on occasion, I remember what it was like to mourn you and I find myself desperate to spend time with you.”
Cas gently moved Crowley’s dogs aside so he could settled on the couch next to the demon, leaning against him. “Hello,” he greeted. “Are you doing alright?”
The loss of dog on his lap and side was an unpleasant sting, but it was quickly replaced with angel and that was something Crowley could very well live with. Ever since Castiel had found him in his new home of retirement. The dogs liked him, so they didn’t mind the angel dropping in at random.
“Doing great, love. The dogs and I were having a quiet afternoon when you popped in. What’s up in Lucifer Land?”
Cas smiled. “Not much, to be honest. Sam and Dean believe they have a lead on getting to the other world that doesn’t involve Lucifer, but it’s uncertain if it will work or not. I haven’t seen or heard from Lucifer since the first time he came to me, and we haven’t had any evidence of him being active anyway, so it seems as though whatever he’s up to is passive for the moment.”
blueeyestrenchcoat // castiel:
Castiel just glared at Crowley. “Perhaps it’s your influence that’s caused me to develop my sarcastic wit,” he stated dryly.
He frowned, fidgeting and looking away. “Lucifer escaped the other world,” he stated. “He came back a few weeks ago. He doesn’t have much grace at the moment, but he’s on this Earth somewhere.” He squatted down to pay Bugs more attention. He had always enjoyed spending time with animals, and so rarely got to these days. “Mary’s the only one still there.”
It was hard, trying to maintain an emotional distance from Crowley. After everything they had been through together, he wanted them to be friends again. He wanted it to be like it had been a long time ago. But any minute now, Crowley would ask him to leave and not come back, and Castiel would never get to see him again.
At least one of us believes in changing for the better.” And that person wasn’t Crowley, although he wouldn’t deny Castiel would be better off with sarcasm down his sleeves. It was an asset, not a burden.
There was a shift in the air, a change of atmosphere and the dogs felt it before Crowley opened his mouth. Bugs’ head raised, ears perked and he trotted back to his owner’s side to offer comfort before necessary - Heartbreaker whimpered softly where he slept by his master’s feet. Breathing deep and slow, lips worked over unspoken exclaims, things Crowley wanted to say, but didn’t. Blinking, he brushed a hand through Bugs’ fur and stood. Fingers against his lips as if he was thinking, and he was, kind of - trying to pick the right words and contain his anger.
“He’s back?” Words clearly enunciated, every single letter razor sharp - words came cutting through the air. He died to lock him up in this godforsaken place and it took him what? A few months? To return. “Splendid. Really. That’s great news you bring.” He was dead. He was utterly, utterly dead. No, worse, but not this time. Lucifer wouldn’t get him alive this time, Crowley would ensure that. “Unless the Lucifer who came back has had a change of heart, you’re still at an impasse - you can’t get over there any other way. Trust me, I know.”
Castiel looked away. “I believe I can convince Lucifer that helping us would be to his benefit as well as ours. He came back with the news that the Michael from that world wishes to come here and subjugate our world as well. I believe Lucifer would find that as unappealing as the rest of us. And, for the moment, he is focused on what Asmodeus is doing. He hasn’t even attempted to find Sam and Dean since coming back.”
The angel returned his focus to Crowley, taking in how scared he looked. He shifted, looking back towards the door. “Rest assured I will not allow him to harm you, Crowley. I will add my own sigils to your warding, and if you’d like, I can brand your ribs the same way I did Sam and Dean’s during the apocalypse, give you protection from all angels. I would have to modify the spell work slightly, so it hides your demonic energy as well as your power, but I would be willing to do so, if you asked it of me. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
In his mind, keeping Crowley safe was more important than his desire to see him, especially after having lost him so recently. He had discovered that knowing Crowley was alive but unreachable somewhere in the world was better than knowing he was dead.

blueeyestrenchcoat:
Castiel reaches down to let Bugs sniff his hand. He was silent for a moment, focusing on the dog, scratching the top of Bugs’s head before straightening again. “I annoyed a cosmic entity and it kicked me out of the Empty,” he stated. “It seems as though my sass was too much for the Entity.”
He sighed, looking away and shifting on his feet. “Mary Winchester is trapped in the apocalypse world being tortured by that world’s Michael. Dean had believed her to be dead until Jack showed them where she was. He blames himself for her present condition.”
He focused on Bugs again, hoping the dog would help drag his thought away from his own guilt and pain. He didn’t need to bring that to Crowley. “We’re trying to find someone who can help us rescue her, but I will not ask that of you. You deserve your ‘retirement’.”
The dog seemed pleased by the attention, a nose against the angel’s leg only proved Crowley’s assumption. He didn’t mind, really. Let them be friendly, he didn’t dislike Castiel. He just knew that Castiel’s world wasn’t good for him and so he’d left, knowing that the angel wouldn’t abandon his family for a demon. It was nothing personal, not in the slightest. Survival, that’s what it was. He had to push his emotions aside and deal with it.
“I severely doubt your sarcasm has had anything to do with it.” If there was any being absolutely the worst at sarcasm, Castiel was worse. They’d spent enough time with each other - Crowley knew.
“Of course he does, Squirrel loves being the center of attention.” And yet it had nothing to do with him. It wasn’t his fight, he fought his own battles. “I couldn’t help even if I pretended I want to. You need an archangel and the day I died, I trapped Lucifer on the other side. No archangel grace, no portal. No portal, no Lucifer - it’s a happy ever after for all of us.”
Castiel just glared at Crowley. “Perhaps it’s your influence that’s caused me to develop my sarcastic wit,” he stated dryly.
He frowned, fidgeting and looking away. “Lucifer escaped the other world,” he stated. “He came back a few weeks ago. blueeyestrenchcoat:
Castiel looked at Crowley. “You were my friend, Crowley. More than that, once. I will always care for you.” He sighed, hunching slightly in a way that suggested he was hiding inside his wings.
“I wasn’t at your funeral,” he admitted quietly. “Sam says they did a joint funeral for all of us who were killed or presumed killed in the fight with Lucifer and the birth of his child.” He swallowed, shaking his head and forcing out the memories of his own death. There were other things to think about. Other things to worry about.
“We don’t care about the demons or the throne of Hell at the moment,” he stated. “I believe I’ve heard rumors that a Prince of Hell has taken over. Asmodeus, I think. Sam and Dean are worried about that, but they’re distracting themselves from the losses and…inconvenient truths they have learned recently.”
Bugs was up and on his feet after slipping off the couch, and when Crowley didn’t tell him not to, he padded over to the stranger, slowly - carefully sniffing at his leg. “He means no harm, love.” Crowley reassured his dog, smiling a little at the sight. He was happier like this, on his own and away from all the nonsense, all those fights that couldn’t be won. He understood Gabriel, more so than ever. He understood why the angel had wanted to get out of the crossfire. There was no end to it. “So, you died, but you’re back. Of course you are.” That was the difference between them, Castiel and the Winchesters would never have to worry about dying. Crowley, though? Crowley did. He didn’t have God watching over him.
“Good, then Hell’s set for life. Splendid. A cockroach to lead maggots - what else could I wish for.” A little smile on his lips, tone dripping with bitterness. He might be over wanting hell, but he wasn’t done being angry yet. “The Winchesters leaning? That’s new.”
