"It’s not that cold. It’s certainly still bearable. I think you need more practice at being in the water.” She smiled and rolled her eyes at his mention of the Giant Squid. “I seriously doubt the Giant Squid is going to be a problem.”

“Hey, I have a lot of practice in the water, and I didn’t say that it was too cold, didn’t I? Just that it gets a bit colder here where it’s deeper.” Teddy shot her a glance at that remark. “No, since we already established that we would both easily get rid of it before it could get dangerous, right?”

Louis nodded fast. “Notes would be an amazing help if you still have them, Ted, it’s not like I’m going to copy them, but maybe you’ve written down things that I haven’t and I’ll be able to get more done with yours with it.” He smiled “Thank you so much, I have time most of the time, I mean I have practice when you have, so that shouldn’t be a problem?”

"I know, and one day I hope she’ll come to see me play, just so she’s been there once.’ He smiled at him. "Thank you, Teddy, that means a lot. I hope I can go pro, I would love to do so, I love being on my broom, to let go of everything and just focus on the game that we’re playing." He grinned. "Being a pro would enable that, huh." Louis smiled "You’re an amazing captain, Teddy, that’s the reason why I am able to thrive so much while on the broom."

"Oh but I will." He laughed. "Besides I doubt any of us know exactly what they want to do until they actually experience the real thing, don’t we? I mean, I can say all my life that I want to be a curse breaker, but what if I’m actually doing it and I hate it to bits? It wouldn’t be the same would it?"

“Even if you copied them, I really wouldn’t mind. Whatever helps you, actually,” Teddy smiled with a shrug of his shoulders. He didn’t mind anyone copying his work, even less Louis. “I’m sure we’ll find a time and date, don’t worry.”

Teddy watched Louis with some mixed feelings. He hoped that Teddy would sort out this thing with Fleur. He really hadn’t imagined that she was so much against Quidditch and competitions after the Triwizard tournament, but then again, maybe it was just a logical thing to happen. “Listen, for all that it’s worth, I think you have the skill to go pro, or you wouldn’t be on my team. And I’ll cross everything I have and can so that you can do what you wanna do, and that this stuff with your mum sorts itself, yes?” He had to smile at the little compliment that Louis still managed to throw in there. “Thanks, but I’m only as good as my team. And you’re all great, okay?”

Teddy dropped back against the rest of his chair and stretched his long arms. Louis was right, the jobs all sounded great in one’s head, but what if they turned out to be complete shite once you started working? “Yeah, I still think we should have experience weeks or something. You know, just looking into different types of jobs, to see what we really wanna do. So that we don’t end up with something crappy and are unhappy for life.”

"Well, not you specifically, but I assumed sooner or later, someone interesting would show up, and it’s much more fun to swim with someone else, rather than by myself." She dipped her toe into the water, and then waded in farther, saying, "No, you’re right, it’s not. The water’s great."

"That's true," Teddy grinned and walked deeper into the lake, the water splashing around his knees. "Okay, a little further in it gets a bit colder, but I think it's still bearable. Good enough for this time of the day anyway. As long as the Giant Squid doesn't show up."

Victoire nodded and smiled. “Very considerate of you. Not yet, I was waiting for you. Are you ready?”

"So you knew I was coming here to join you?" Teddy laughed and stepped close to the shore of the lake, testing the water with his toe. "Hmm, not too bad."

"Defence I’m alright with to be honest, it’s mainly History I got problems with. I am pretty good with both on DADA, I love that subject.’ He smiled. "But History, I don’t know, I love it, I just can’t seem to get all of it in my head for some reason. And that’s not what I want happening when it comes to my school work…" Louis looked up. "It’s the um 1612 one were talking about now. That’s the one I’m in trouble with and I can’t seem to get ready for my exams."

He shrugged. “I’ve promised myself not to let it bother me anymore, I can’t let it get to me, because I wouldn’t concentrate on the games anymore. I want her to see what I can do, to see that I’m good at it, but if she doesn’t want to, I can’t force her to, can I?” Louis shrugged “You’d be a brilliant Auror, you’re great on Defensive spells and such.. but you’d be great at curse breaking too, I know my dad has always loved it and was sad to let it go after the Second War started, but then again he got to work with mum.” He laughed. “That was a good thing about it.” Louis burst out laughing “Rock star eh? You look the part with your blue hair don’t you?”

"Okay, then History. I think I can go and check if I still have any notes left from mine, when we were talking about the Goblin wars. When do you want to do this? I don't have much going on besides Quidditch practice, and well, maybe my own studies, but that's no problem. Just let me know when you've got time, okay? You'll see, we'll get you fit in History," Teddy grinned and gave Louis and encouraging nudge.

"No, you can't force her, of course, but it's still a pity that she misses your games. You're a brilliant player, Louis, don't let anyone tell you differently, okay? Wouldn't want to miss you on our team. And who knows, maybe you'll make a great career out of it, and then even your mother will have to appreciate it, don't you think?" He smiled softly, meaning his words. The Hufflepuff team wouldn't be the same without Louis, and he just wanted the younger boy to be comfortable with what he was doing.

"Haha, thanks, better not continue like that, or I might actually develop an ego," Teddy laughed, resting his chin on his hand as he glanced at Louis. "I'll just see what suits me most when I'm done. I just don't want anything boring, that's all. And yeah, Rock star would be a good alternative for that. Might have to improve my singing a bit, to make it as a professional, but my guitar play's good enough."

"Don’t worry, you’re fine. It’s not like they’re any different from swimming clothes anyway, at least in how they look."

"That's what I'm always saying," Teddy grinned and stripped off his clothes.  "Just wanted to give you a warning though."

He nodded towards the water. "Did you try it yet?"

"Sure." Victoire grinned and stood up. "Let’s go."

"Awesome," Teddy grinned and started to tug on his tee. "Well, hope you don't mind my boxers then, I didn't really think about packing any swimming clothes when going outside."

"Well, that too, of course." She laughed. "Oops, yeah, you’re right. What should we talk about instead?"

“Hmm, good question,” Teddy’s eyes flickered around, in hopes of finding some inspiration, and suddenly a grin grew on his lips. “Hey, wanna go for a swim?”

She smiled and raised an eyebrow. “And how do you think I keep them that way? Besides, even if I don’t have to do all of that, these are the NEWTs, and this makes me feel better about them. Less stressed, more prepared.”

"I just assumed it was your natural talent," Teddy grinned, brushing his hand over the tips of the grass they were resting on. "But sure, better safe than sorry, especially with the NEWTs. But .... we didn't want to talk about those!"

Louis laughed and nodded. “I’m appreciative enough for just the one subject you’d be helping me on, Ted, Because I’ll go nuts if I have to do it on my own any longer.” He smiled. “Um.. I think the exams will be on the Goblin Wars… At least that’s what Professor Binns let loose to us the other day and it’s what he keeps rambling on about while we are in class.” He looked at the books. “Just dates and happenings you say? Are you sure?”

"I know it wasn’t the tournaments fault, but it happened during the tournament, which is reason enough for mum to get upset." He sighed. "I know dad is always able to calm her down, but she won’t even come watch me in games, no matter how many times I’ve asked her to come." Louis smiled at Teddy. "I want to go professional, that would be amazing. I feel at home on my broom and to make my living off of it would be a dream come true!" He grinned, "Do you have any idea what you want to do when you get out of here at the end of the year?"

“No problem, really,” Teddy leaned back in his chair and grabbed the books again. “So Defence and History it is? That shouldn’t be a problem. Is it more the theory or the practice in DADA that’s giving you troubles?” He flipped through the pages of the history book until he reached the chapter about the Goblin Wars. “Oh right, that one … the one in 1612 or the one during the 18th century? I think he asked about both, so be careful not to mix them up.”

For a moment, Teddy didn’t even know what to say. “She doesn’t even want to watch your games? Just because it’s sports? I’m sorry, but this is … uhm … wow. A little harsh, if you’re asking me.”

“I’ve been thinking about a few options, actually. Maybe being a curse breaker, or trying to become an Auror. Or I screw it all and become a rock star, who knows?” he laughed.

"That is certainly true," Vic said, smiling as she turned to look at Teddy. "Yes, that was my plan, at least for the next month or so. Relax while I can, enjoy the weather while it lasts, and once that ends, study like hell. Luckily, the weather is still too nice to think about that for a while."

Teddy rolled onto his side to be able to get a better look at her, his head resting on his propped up hand. “Do you really think you will have to do that much? Your marks aren’t that bad, if I recall correctly?”

"Yes, exactly. Although I wouldn’t say the beach is better, though it’s still very nice.Of course, that could always just be because I’m used to it, so it’s not as big a deal to me. But yes, it is very awesome."

She groaned slightly. “The weather is much too nice to think about the NEWTs. I’d much rather think about those weeks after they’re over, if that’s alright with you.:

“I think there are worse things than being used to living at the beach,” Teddy laughed as he turned his face towards Victoire while he was speaking.

“Sorry,” he grinned, “it was just a brief thought. And anyway, they are still so far away, we could just as well pretend we don’t have to take these exams at all this year? And instead … just enjoy the weather.”

"Yes, it seems rock star is winning" she laughed.

"I didn’t knew about it, really sounds cool. And beyond dragons, there are plenty other amusing things you can see as a curse breaker. Indeed it is a pretty awesome job, isn’t it? 

It is hard to explain, but I think I can understand. It’s not about being greater than they were, but to make them proud, right? I believe that living our lives the better we can, and guaranteeing that we will keep the better world they fought for us to have is enough. No problem for me, but if you don’t want to talk about that, we don’t have to.

Yes, we have a deal, Mr. Lupin. Whenever I’m lacking confidence, I’ll come to bother you, so you can help me.

Alright, I ditch all future plans to become a rock star, no problem. I’ll just do a shoutout to get the rest of the band together. And when we are big and famous, I’ll of course remember you and say that you were the one who convinced me to follow that path!

Well, the downside of a curse breaker are, of course, the curses. It could be quite dangerous, not just meeting the dragons, but also the hidden curses. But hey, what’s life without a little excitement, right?

No, no, I’m good. I don’t … don’t talk too much about it, generally. I don’t know, I’m just kind of thankful for what they all did, ending the war and making it possible for all of us to live the lives we’re having now. Just … yeah, you know. I just like to imagine how it would’ve been with my folks around, you know?

Okay, so just send me an owl or come over whenever you feel too small, yes? Because seriously, you’re a smart girl, you can do whatever you want.

"Both  of them will, undoubtedly, have a required amount of paperwork, yet that doesn’t mean you’ll spend the greatest part doing so. However, you’re right, any job at the Ministry will have an often great part of paper involved.

I don’t know a lot about how the curse breaker job works, nevertheless I always believed the paper part was apart from the practical job. I’m not sure about it, but I thought uncle Billl worked with the last while at Egypt, and with the first after he moved back to England.

I know what you mean.” she answered, comprehensive, and gave him a sad smile before continuing. “Going to school, playing Quidditch, getting good grades, none of those seems relevant if compared to win a war. Still, as you said, we fortunately don’t have a war to fight. If those simple things are the best we can do, then we shall do it. There are plenty of war heroes related to us, we don’t need to become it too. And, unless we do it, or do some other great things, like great discovers, or inventions, or become Ministry of Magic, I honestly don’t know what we could do.

Thanks, Teddy! Now I’m pretty much confident about it, but as the time to see if I really can do it approaches, this confidence is decreasing.

Yeah, I guess so, so maybe Rock Star is the better alternative after all? Just kidding. But as said, as long as it doesn't mean that I have to sit behind a desk all day, I guess I'll be fine.

I once talked with Bill about the job, that's actually why I found it so fascinating. I mean, did you know that he has encountered several dragons? Real ones? Because they are used so often to guard treasures. I mean, just imagine that, finding a treasure in a huge cave, on top of the gold resting a real dragon? I think that's something pretty cool, actually.

I'm not ... I mean, for me it's not about making a huge name of myself. I don't need to 'be better than my parents', or anything, because no, I never could. They were war heroes, fighting and dying so that we could have a better future, and ... and I could never live up to that. But I just don't want to do anything that would've maybe disappoint them, you know? It's kind of hard to explain, and maybe it doesn't make much sense ... Sorry for bringing it up.

Well, in case you're lacking some confidence again, how about you just come to me and I help building it up again, hm? Is that a deal?

"I suppose so. I mean, I’ve been dancing for a long time and I usually do find an empty room around here somewhere. But it’s the practice that’s important, really. I mean some people have a natural talent but practice helps more than that." Drew shrugged, but felt much more comfortable now than he usually did.

"Oh yeah, I can do that. It worked on my computer too, although I don’t use that as much. And yeah, having my own music is a lot better. Um, it’s a mix. I do have some set choreography but sometimes I just sort of do what comes to me."

"Well, one can surely see the effort you're putting into this, because, I mean, damn!" Teddy laughed, taking a more confident step closer now. "I think you always need practice to stay good, no matter what you do, but seriously, did you ever think about doing something like that for a living?"

Teddy was more and more impressed. Since he had grown up with wizards, he didn't have that much technology, but as a kid his age, he didn't ignore it as much as most wizards did. "Even on your computer? I think a classmate of mine once tried that and failed horribly, I think if I told him that I knew how to do it, he'd hex me instantly, because back then it killed his laptop," Teddy grinned. "And what was that right now? Just jumping around to the music that happens to be played or was that actually a set choreography to that song?"

"I can always ask someone else about Potions, don’t worry." He smiled, he felt lucky enough that Teddy wanted to help him out, it didn’t matter if it was with everything or just this. "I used to really like History, but I just can’t focus when that man is talking on and on.. If he’d even change his voice every now and then it would make it that much more interesting, wouldn’t it?" Louis let out a little laugh. "Thank you though, Ted."

Louis smiled at him when he received the nudge and then nodded, taking a deep breath. “I know I’m not them, and that I shouldn’t want to get myself up there with them to meet my mum’s standards, but I can’t help but feel this way, and it absolutely stinks to be honest..” Then he smiled. “Thank you, you’re not too bad a Keeper yourself.” He grinned before shrugging. “You’d be surprised how my mum feels about competitive sports after the Triwizard Tournament, especially after that..” He pulled a face. “She’ll say: ‘It got a boy killed, Louis, don’t you dare tell me it’s a safe thing’ ” He said in his best imitation of his mother’s voice. “Of course dad tells her to calm down and see that it calms me down and that I love it. Which sometimes helps.” He smiled at Teddy.

“I honestly recommend asking someone else about Potions, because there is a reason why I dropped it as soon as I could. Seriously, I just couldn’t get the hang of it, even though people claim that it’s just mixing stuff together, I swear there is more to it that they just don’t tell us,” Teddy shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. At least he knew that his father hadn’t been much better at potions than him, so that gave him a little reassurance that he wasn’t the only one failing this class. “History … yeah. It is a little hard to stay awake, I’ve got to admit that. Do you know where you currently are? Luckily, those tests are mostly quite easy, he just expects you to know a couple of dates and the basic events, you don’t need too many details, though they are always appreciated. And no need to thank me, seriously. I’m happy to help,” Teddy grinned and waved it off, just giving Louis another smile. Some part of him just wished he could do more.

“Yes, but that the boy died wasn’t the tournament's fault” Teddy frowned, forgetting about the book he was holding for a moment. “I mean, Harry was there, the whole time, and it was just because Voldemort returned that Diggory got killed. That had nothing to do with the competition itself …” He sighed. Well, of course these major events always attracted weirdos, but over the past years, everything had calmed down and it was back to being what it used to be: all fun and games. “And who knows, maybe you’ll become a professional Quidditch player? They make tons of galleons, I doubt your mother could be against that right?”

Well, in general, people only remember the fun part. It isn’t until they have to do the less exciting part that they realize being an auror, or a curse breaker, it isn’t all about action all the time. Still, it is far from the amount of paperwork you’d have to deal with on an office job.

Everyone expects us to be so amazing as our parents, our families, the war heroes, and they forget that we aren’t them. Yes, I think doing our best is the better way to act. Having such famous names connected to you definitely put some pressure, however, I like to deal with said pressure as motivation to be the best I can be, in anything I try.   

You’re welcome, Ted, but I was completely honest with what I’ve said.

Are you really thinking about doing so? That sounds completely reckless and daring! But I’ve got to admit, it also sounds cool.

Well, it’s still a job at the Ministry, at least being an Auror is, so of course there’s always tons of paperwork included. Though Harry said that it’s becoming less and less, especially since the head of the Ministry has changed. I’m not sure if Goblins demand that much paperwork, but I guess they want to be sure that you didn’t sneak any of the treasures into your own pockets, so there still might be some … And of course, the insurances and damage control reports and everything, but that goes for both cases …

Well, first of all, we don’t have to fight a war. For which I’m  glad, seeing how many … well, you know. Didn’t survive the last two ones. I think people connect those actions and fights with our names though, intentionally or not. And, I don’t know, I think it’s hard to live up to such names when all you can do is go to school, right? I mean, I’m trying my best here, getting my marks and stuff, doing Quidditch, but … what else would be there to make them proud?

Thanks anyway. And you know that you’re brilliant too, right? So, whatever job you want at the Ministry, or even something entirely different, I’m sure you can do it.

Actually, it was more of a joke, but now that I’m thinking about it, it might be a good alternative, if all else fails. I’d just need … you know, a drummer, a bass-player … I’m not sure if my singing is good enough? I could try!
