the offending ring of yunhoâs phone echoed through the room as he was ripped out of his trance. he put the documents he was reading down and looked at the caller. it was the hospital. yunho felt his breath stagger as he picked up, the soft voice of the nurse greeting him through the speaker.
âhello! am i talking to jeong?â she asked.
âyes, itâs me. is my wife okay?â
âi am sad to inform you that your wifeâs general condition has deteriorated.â yunho felt his throat tighten, jaw clenching. âshe has been asking for you.â yunho nodded, more like to himself, before he told the nurse that he was on his way to the hospital.
yunhoâs heart was beating so fast, he could feel it in his throat as he walked into the hospital. the stench of it penetrating his nose and giving him a grim feeling. he always hated hospitals. as he walked by a flower shop, his eyes fell onto the beautiful pink tulips, your favorite.
his hands felt clammy as he stood in the elevator, waiting until it reached his desired floor, the tulips in his hands. âfloor 24,â the elevator lady echoed, announcing yunhoâs arrival. as soon as the doors opened, he walked to the receptionist and asked them about you.
âyes, you may go into her room.â yunho nodded with a soft smile, walking into the direction of your room. âuhm, sir,â he stopped, turning around to meet the receptionist. âit might be any moment now,â she whispered, âshe doesnât have much left, iâm afraid.â yunho swallowed the thick lump in his throat as he tried to process the ladyâs words, nodding.
with a soft knock on the door, yunho opened the door to your room, a soft hello falling from his dry lips. âyunho,â you whispered, a smile tugging on the edges of your pale lips. you reached put a shaky hand towards your husband, the golden ring shimmering in the late afternoon sun that was shining into the room. your husband took long strides toward you, taking your hand in his larger one. âmy yunho,â you said, your voice fragile. âiâve missed you.â he laid a soft kiss onto your forehead, putting the pink tulips onto your lap.
âgot your favorite,â he whispered against your skin, his other hand that wasnât holding your hand now on your cheek. his soft kissed trailed down along your temple and stopped at the corner of your lips. âi love you, (y/n).â your sigh of contentment made yunhoâs heart flutter.
âtell me about your day,â you said, your eyes looking in his. âplease.â
so, yunho talked. he told you about his day, about his friends, about everything that happened around him. he told you how wooyoung broke into kyungmoonâs apartment just to play with joy. and he loved every second of how he would see your eyes light up in excitement and the soft squeeze of your hand around his when you softly laughed at his and his friends antics.
time went by so fast that yunho couldnât bare to leave you. it was already 9pm and visiting hours were over. âi donât want to leave,â he whispered, tears springing into his eyes. you cooed, your hand caressing his cheek. âbut i have to.â you smiled, tapping the space on your lap.
âi know, yunho.â you said, the smile never leaving your lips. âi know i donât have much longer. so, please, spend this night with me like the old times. this one last time.â
â(y/n), donât talk like this is the last time iâll ever see you.â his voice was trembling, so were his fingers.
âdo me this one last favor, yunho.â it never took you long to convince yunho, especially not in the state you were in right now. he would give you the moon and the stars with his bare hands if he could. and with a soft nod, he laid his head onto your lap, tears sliding down his temple as your fingers caressed his hair. âi love you, donât you ever forget that. you were the best thing that has ever happened to me, and i am happy to spend my last days with you, jeong yunho.â he felt you move under him before he felt your soft lips on his temple. âgoodnight, my yunho.â
your hand laid limply in his hair, not moving from its place, and your chest has stopped moving up and down. he couldnât hear your breath anymore. you were gone. yunho choked on his own sobs as he buried his face into your lap, sobs wrenching their way out of his lungs as his body trembled with every breath he tried to take. his hands were clutching the duvet that was loosely around your legs, trying to keep you warm. his tears were staining the sheets as he buried his head deeper into your lap, feeling lightheaded at the lack of oxygen, but he didnât care.
you were his oxygen, and without you, he didnât have any left.
after spending the night at the hospital with mingi by his side, he walked out of the hospital with the pink tulips still bright and colorful.
âare you sure youâre okay?â his friend asked, a hand sitting on yunhoâs shoulder. said man just nodded, no energy left in him anymore. dark shadows were decorating his pale skin and reddened cheeks. âif you need anything, just call me, yeah?â mingi hugged him, patting his back. âiâve got you.â
I want to say something but... I don't think I have the words or the capacity to articulate my thoughts. All I can do is hope and pray that his friends, family, and members find strength and that the media gives them space to mourn.
Rest well, Moonbin-ah. You did well. I hope you know that we'll always carry you in our hearts. Thank you for brightening up arohas lives and I'm extremely sorry that you were going through such difficult times.

Iâm not familiar with the group but I just wanna say Iâm so sorry for the fans and even more so his family, friends and members. I also wanna say, do not feel silly if you are upset. You are allowed to grieve people that you donât know personally. Whenever stuff like this happens, there are shitty people who go out of their way to try and make people feel stupid for reacting. Ignore them. Again, you are allowed to grieve for people you donât know personally, thereâs nothing silly about that.
