Y’all these colors …

And there’s a gold tone hidden under the browns in these leaves that I’m hunting for in the form of alpaca sport yarn.

This might be my favorite thing I’ve ever made.

You know how drunk arguments seem oh so stupid in the cold light of morning?

I’m sorry beautiful alpaca windowed moss stitch. I love you and I’m not tearing you back and I’m not mad just because the DAMN gold I got ISNT an alpaca blend like I thought it was.

But I love you and once I decide what I want to do next, it’s you and me baby 😘

Exploring my next installment of creative failure and foundations.

I approached a good idea the wrong way and it’s been sitting in my WIP pile for a long time. Every row was leading to a “What if…” or “I should have …” moment.

So. Here we go. I haven’t torn anything back yet. It’s 2:39 here and big decisions are not good at (now) 2:41.

But it’s not the end. It’s doing it right.

This came in today and the “Thursday wine drink order” I did is apparently arriving TOMORROW. And it includes a yarn I’ve been lusting after as well as something in WORSTED WEIGHT bc I am over being a fingering weight adherent who migrated to DK and despite DK being my favorite … appreciating worsted more and more.

I finished a thing! Some of my joins were funky and led to some unevenness but I love the way this turned out. The herringbone half double crochet moss stitch is a new favorite (whispers: though I have yet to really get a herringbone vibe). This is what it looks like after I reversed it though and it’s *lovely*

I’ve been playing with moss stitch and alpine stitch a lot lately.

Herringbone Half Double Crochet Moss Stitch lives in the space between those two and is scratching an itch I didn’t know I had.

Irate about its sister skein (lol, “one of a kind,” ok) but this yarn is absolutely beautiful. When dyed correctly.

Inspiration has arisen to work through the sister skein because I reached a really … interesting … point in this yarn today. One side is sunset. One side is after the sun has dipped below the horizon.

As you can see from the original photo above, this is a new development. Let’s see how it goes. I haven’t worked with variegated yarn a lot but this is new.

This infuriatingly delightful yarn might be the death of me.

Edit: I guess it does make sense that at some point, the widening cake would disperse color differently. It was just so stark!

It’s not perfect but it’s progressing and I’ve learned a lot about knitting tension and technique just making this very simple pattern. The motions are feeling more regular. The rows are more even. I’m still making mistakes but now I see them. I’m using the perfect yarn for this: a colorway I LOVE but yarn that was blocked and then frogged. Not unsalvageable but … perfect for this. I can screw up but I like looking at it.

Hi. I’m never doing a turning chain ever again.

Got new hooks today and ohhhhh I love them.

The beautiful driftwood hooks I have are great but the wells are shallow aaaaand.

I tore it back and restarted. There are lighting and surface variables here that exacerbate the differences, but I made the right call. I also learned how to do the alternative/no chain turning double crochet to eliminate those damn 2 or 3 chain ends that are ugly but also contributed to the issue at hand.

In addition to not twisting, without the unintended increases and decreases in the work, the color is pooling/distributing more evenly. I have OPINIONS about pooling but I think in the end this will look alright. The techniques are far and away more sound, and pooling be damned, if this helps me rehearse the better practices, those giant dark indigo blobs are worth it.

Sigh.

I’m pleased with how this is working up but I just realized that I was making one *tiny* mistake, one little deviation from the pattern and now I’m ticked off. Gonna work up two more rows (correctly ugh) and see what happens.

But this might explain why, despite pulling the fpdc all the way up, my alpine stitch keeps curling. Not just curling … twisting. I like when things make sense, and if a few rows seem to undo that twisting effect and look good, I’ll just keep going.

Half a row in after this discovery and found a weird stitch. Then another. Keep seeing other imperfections in my attempt to ignore the foundational flaw here. Every time I look at it, I think “mistakes!” Not like a miscounted stitch here or there.

I think this yarn is cursed.
