i’ve permanently lived in america since 2016 and it’s definitely got it’s pros and cons. the 24/7 culture works for me but LA’s definitely an acquired taste otherwise. i don’t know if it’s self-control or me just not having the time to devote to things. when i’m not touring, writing or recording with my band, i’m working on solo music or music with other people. ah, the early 2000s pop punk scene, iconic. good charlotte, avril lavigne, all american rejects, awesome tunes. do you have a song or a band that brings you back to that era and makes you feel all nostalgic? alone-time is great, when it’s something you’ve chosen but i feel like we’re all social creatures and end up craving company at some point. your social battery has been charged and you’re ready to go now. 

Yeah, I suppose it depends on where you live. I think we all crave something new, though, when growing up and seeing the same places every day. North Carolina was kind of like that for me. I do love culture, though. I just love learning the norm of other people when it differs from me. Oh god, that’s a good question. Some of my favorite songs from that time were definitely from Simple Plan and Sum 41. There are so many songs that come to mind, though. the early 2000s were just ... easier, I think. I mean, I was working by then, but I was doing it sparingly. And as much as I love acting, I feels more like a job now than it did then. Yeah, you’re right. I suppose my need for social interaction is long overdue anyway.

Yeah, you should! No, trust me -- I get it. Sometimes work is just too important to miss. I think It’s nice to have a break, but it’s also nice to get things done. At least you tried, though, right?

They had such a bad bitch for a mom, it was so iconic, listen i have been told dumb dreams all my life so i can handle whatever you came up as a kid, Stormi probably had the same type of dreams, she is a cutie but when that imagination starts to run there is nothing to stop her, i agree, i think if you aren’t ready to commit to them before new year’s eve then is not going to happen, oooh Cadet Kelly was my thing when i was younger.

Right! And then there was Rosie -- the robot. Icons everywhere. I mean, I don’t find my childhood dreams as silly as they are straight up disturbing. Hence the Zenon dreams being the most sane out of all of ‘em. But, I’m sure it’s a trip knowing all of Stormi’s dreams. She has so many awesome influences in her life; I’m sure the sky’s the limit with her. Right! Time is nothing but a concept, anyway. Cadet Kelley was so badass. Hilary Duff is forever my hero, I think.

Was your resolution to stop watching Disney Channel original movies? That seems like a resolution that would be very difficult to keep. Besides, most of those movies are wholesome and have cute endings. Why would you want that out of your life? I don’t make resolutions anymore because I tend to break them within the first month.

Oh, no not at all! It was really to stop cancelling plans to go on Disney binges -- but, you know, that’s just as hard for me now-a-days. Honestly, you’re right. No one needs that kind of stress in their life. Definitely since Disney bought Marvel. I’m a sucker for Marvel movies too. I think it’s almost tradition to break your resolution. Like, next year, I’m going to try gaslighting myself and making it something along the lines of -- I WON’T stop drinking caffeine. Maybe then I might actually break it for the greater-good.

You think that was the most sane and logical thing to happen in the future? I would love to know what other childhood dreams you had. I do agree that it could have easily been one of the coolest dreams that you had. I have to admit, I’m not that well versed on those movies, I just know the bare minimum. Call me old.

I mean, yeah. 8-year-old me was really out here thinking we’d all be leaving earth and living in space by now. Oh no, trust me -- some things you should just ... not know. My mind as a child was full off bizarre things. I even went through a crisis when I was about 6 after I learned that there were active Volcanos in the US. Took about 6 months of therapy to get over it. I was a very nervous child. Old? Please, I’m sure you’re not old -- I feel like maybe you just have an actual life, which totally has me envious.

i have to admit that i don’t know what the Zenon movies are, but even without knowing, I can agree that the world is definitely falling short on some of the amazing things that should definitely be possible by now. resolutions are so difficult and i always feel this overwhelming sense of guilt when i can’t keep one even though i know its inevitable. dont stop doing what you love new year or not. that’s that.

Honestly, it’s okay. I think we all got the sense of the 2020s being more... advanced than it actually is from most media. They are! But, I think it’s the guilt that people think will keep them accountable. Even if all it does is discourage most. You’re right; that’s that.

Is it bad that i have never watched those Zenon movies you are talking about? is it like futurist stuff? because if so then i am with you on that, i want to be on a Futurama type of world, that would be pretty fun, yeah i never keep them but i still did them with my siblings, i will probably break them soon enough.

Nah, I’ve come to realize that my taste in 90′s movies can be a little niche. But, hey, futurama is close enough. I also watched a lot of that growing up -- hell, I still do. Really? What was your resolution this year?

gonna blame being an aussie for not knowing about these cool american things. i have a mountain of things on my watch list but here’s me adding a few more. hopefully by 2025, i’ve cleared that list. i think doing whatever brought you joy as a kid feels like a comfort blanket now. i often put on music that have happy memories attached to them and life feels pretty carefree for an hour or two. drink water, be kind to yourself and maybe have that chocolate bar whenever you feel like it. that’s my third resolution, even if it sorta ties in with the second one already. best thing about adulthood, being able to say no to plans and stay in bed doing nothing. being lazy > going out.

That’s fine, America isn’t all that great anyway. You definitely have more self control than I do then because I can never keep anything on my watch list. If I’m not binging shows or movies between work, I don’t know what to do with myself. Oh man, yeah there’s nothing better than music from your childhood. I grew up listening to whatever my older cousins did, and it definitely influenced my music taste now. Anything that reminds me of the 90′s-early 2000s punk scene holds my heart. But, I’ll also throw on Shania Twain and party like there’s no tomorrow. See, you’re right, but I also want to start putting myself out there more this year. Being alone is great but I’m kind of at that point where I don’t want to be alone ALL the time. I think I’m finally starting to get stir-crazy. Or, maybe I’ve just run out of things to watch.

Really? What’s the deal? That’s unacceptable! Just know that if I threw a new year’s party then you would definitely get an invite from me. Denial is out safest bet right now so I’m also happy to live in the delusion that out invites were simply lost otherwise I’m just plain insulted for the both of us. Kinda mad I didn’t think to stay home, get pissed while playing Super Mario Bros. That sounds like a great way to spend the night. Wait… why are we going on about Paris when you’re clearly a genius?! I always used to cheat with rubik’s cubes when I was a kid by peeling off the stickers and putting them all in order.

Girl, I would be honored to come to any party you throw! Yes, denial is probably the best way to save our ego, there’s no doubt about that. Please, I wouldn’t say I’m a genius, but I do have my moments. If you want, you’re welcome to come by the next time you’re in LA and we can have our own not - so - new year shindig. Staying in is an art I’ve come to master. So did I! It was much easier than trying to figure it out and it helped build my ego to what it is today.

I gave up on making New Year’s resolutions. They never work out for me and I think it’s easier to change as time goes on. The only one I have is to try and make things work with an old friend and be a better dad to my son, but those honestly should be an everyday thing.

And you know what? I agree. And I love that for you. Bettering yourself for the people you love is great and all, but you know what -- sometimes you gotta do it for yourself too. And it really should be an every day thing. But, I can see why people make those kinds of resolutions. Even if you can better yourself every day, I think people just really feel the term “new year, new me”.

Oh gosh, that movie brings up so many memories, some of which involves me hoping to be Greg when I grow up. We see how that worked out but I’m just as disappointed by the lack of space stations. I’m starting to think those early 2000 Disney movies weren’t being honest with us. Sure hope this is the year or else I’m losing all hope in this movies. Yeah no I gave up on resolutions a few years, they’re kinda pointless. Instead I’ve gotten in the mindset of constantly trying to make goals and better myself instead of waiting for a New Year to do it. Binge all the Disney channel originals, they’re the best and no reason they should suffer. Also is it just me or do those movies just heal your inner child?

Now, don’t sell yourself short. You’re giving off some major Greg vibes -- at least to me. Greg was definitely the best guy in the whole series. No space stations, no pop-star named protozoa... honestly, it’s just heartbreaking. See? Greg vibes. I love that for you, dude. It’s always nice to know people want to better themselves instead of assuming they’re better than everyone else. Like, don’t get me wrong -- it’s good to have some self confidence but the line between that and arrogance is a thin one. Thank you for reassuring me, though. You and all your Greg vibes.

i have a confession to make, i had to google what Zenon movies where, since i’d never seen any of them. how disappointed in me are you in the lords year 2023? my only excuse is that we didn’t have Disney channel when I was a kid and i missed a lot of early 2000′s gems. i always feel like shit, when i break a resolution so my only ones for the year are drinking more water and being kinder to myself. those should be easier to keep. what resolution did you make and how many hours did it take for you to break it?

I’m -- well, I’m shocked, first of all. I really didn’t think the Zenon movies were all that niche. Maybe I was just lucky to have experienced that masterpiece of a trilogy. I’m sorry you missed out on them, but there’s no shame in going back and watching them anyway, right? I mean, it’s totally normal in your 30s, isn’t it? Re-watching kids movies to make yourself feel better? Anyway ... Look, I think those are great resolutions. I think I might need to steal those for myself. My resolution was to not cancel plans for a Disney binge and that literally lasted 2 days.

Honestly i am still day dreaming about living like the Jetsons, i am now curious about the insane dreams you had as a kid, honestly i gave up on them a long time ago, the last time i made resolutions i broke then within a week and it was just bad, since you are still binge watching Disney shows how about some suggestions? i could use some more television time with Stormi and Wolf.

The Jetsons were in the league of their own, man -- oh no, please trust me when I say that you really wouldn’t want to know about the dreams I had as a kid. Some things are better left to the imagination, you know? That settles it, resolutions are just too much pressure. I’m a go with the flow kinda gal; I don’t need all that stress in my life. Well, you know, other than the Zenon movies there’s Halloweentown, Cadet Kelly, Smart House, Phantom of the Megaplex ... I could go on for days.

The fact that it’s 2023 and we don’t have anything the Zenon movies promised us by now is such a disappointment. Like, sure it was a movie -- whatever -- but, c’mon -- Out of all my childhood dreams, that was definitely the most sane ... and frankly the coolest. Maybe this is the year, guys. Speaking of which, anyone else tired of making resolutions they don’t keep? Because we’re 5 days into the new year and I’ve already caved. Maybe next year I’ll stop binging Disney Channel Originals and cancelling plans to do it. I don’t think I’m ready right now.   @gonehollywoodstarters​

Not saying I didn’t enjoy spending New Years in London but I’ve recently discovered most of you crafty sods spent the days leading up to and the big day itself in Paris. Feels like a punch in me gut. While I was sipping on red wine and watching a firework display for the millionth time, you guys were sipping on champagne and partying like there’s no tomorrow. For the sake of you own ego, I’ve decided to believe that my invitation got lost in the post instead of not been sent. Anyway, how have you all been? Come on, tell me the stories that’ll make me green with envy. @gonehollywoodstarters

Don’t feel too bad, I also didn’t get the invite. But, hey, maybe ours truly did get lost in the mail. Spending the night alone with a bottle of ... (Whatever it was I drank. Honestly, I can’t remember at this point) ... and playing Super Mario Bros. wasn’t a bad start to the year, though. Even if Paris is very hard to beat. Nothing exciting really goes on around me now-a-days -- but, I did learn how to solve a rubik’s cube recently.
