BELLUM. headcanons time ! Marlowe doesn't fight for the manor in the same way as Bard or Mey
that is, they don’t use guns; they actually probably can’t even shoot a gun
they don’t even use brute force and bare fists like Finny does, but their style of protection is more similar to Finny than either Mey or Bard
Marlowe uses their stealth, and a knife.
they keep their footsteps quiet, they sneak around in the shadows, and they FOLLOW a threat; they were naturally stealthy anyway, but they’ve learned incredibly well from Sebastian in order to hone it, and now they operate just the way he taught them to, the way that he deals with intruders
if all goes perfectly, the intruder won’t know anyone is even there until Marlowe has their blade against the person’s throat
this means that they have more chance to speak with their target before destroying them, and that if an intruder is caught by Marlowe, they stand a very slim chance of survival compared to Bard or Mey
but it also means that if Marlowe decides to kill the intruder, it’s incredibly brutal. stabbing is personal and up close, and sometimes, if something about the intruder hits a nerve with Marlowe, they might go a little more overboard than necessary
in the early days, Sebastian once found Marlowe sobbing after the first time they killed an intruder, some horrible woman who apparently reminded them of their mother, having put about twenty holes into her with their knife
while they always regret it when they let themself go THAT far, they just have so much anger inside them that when faced with something or someone which could harm their new life or their friends or their master, sometimes… they just vent that anger
it’s horrifying to watch, but it’s also a bit sad, this person who was never loved and who was rejected by the world, having finally found the place where people accept and love them, still consumed by rage to the point that they occasionally let it swallow them whole and protect the manor with overkill
I’m sure Sebastian just shakes his head when they do this, tsking and saying they still have a lot to learn
and their going overboard isn’t necessarily right, but in some ways it’s very understandable, and when one knows everything there is to know about Marlowe Flynn, it makes it terribly easy to feel sorry for them.
