[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] i’m desperate for affection and attention my standards have dropped to an all time low, truly impressive feat really. the south korean government should give me an award for being so pathetic.
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] but if you really want to know it took 5 soju bombs and like two bottles of soju aka the equivalent to two films
[ ✉ → Seo Seo ] If you can somehow make a sport or a variety show out of that, I’m sure they would give you an award. We need to find you better candidates to give you affection and attention around here.
[ ✉ ] Yikes... Sounds like such an effort just for one guy
his eyes quickly dart to the girl beside him when he sees her shifting round, his bewilderment showing in both his expression and tone. did she really expect to get away with stealing his jacket? he was undoubtedly oblivious, but not to that extent.
“yah, what are you doing?” his shock shifts to amusement, his agape mouth replaced by a smile. “i know it’s cold, but you know that you can ask to wear my coat, right? you don’t have to try to be sly. plus, there’s no way you could take it from the back of my chair without me feeling it. who do you think you are, houdini?”
he shakes his head, chuckles under his breath as he drapes the jacket around her shoulders. he’s at somewhat of a loss, unsure of what exactly to say, but he does find her attempt both amusing and adorable.
hard gulps seems like something that only occurs within works of fiction, but byunghee gulps when his tone cuts through the silence that built up in the air. she didn’t think that far ahead. of course he’ll see his jacket on her if she succeeded, but something along the lines of ‘he can’t take it back if i’m already wearing it’ ran through her mind.
“well i was giving it my best effort,” she retorts; her lips pouting like a child after they’re caught in an act they aren’t supposed to be doing. she pulls the jacket closer around her. even the nights in seoul come hand in hand with the chills, but she’ll always be first to state that she has paper thin skin that needs to be kept warm.
she scrunches her nose in a false contempt at him. “maybe if i had my wheels oiled and they didn’t squeak so much, i could be a ninja and you’d never notice.”

The sleeves extended over her hands. She could pull them up and have them bunch up at the elbow, but the warmth they offered was too nice to ignore. She would have to make do with the sweater paws. Xiujin wasn’t one to pick up on the small details sometimes, so she wondered how obvious she’d been for him to lend her his sweater like this. The fabric was still warm from the contact of his skin. Her cheeks flushed. The sharp transition from the cold to warm was like going home after being outside for too long.
She waved and flopped the end of the sleeve at his arm to get his attention. “Xiujin-ie, thank you.” Her head tilted with curiosity. “But what are you going to do if you get cold now?”

▤ = falling asleep on them .
“Oh m– Sooah!” Byunghee patted at Seoyeon’s arm softly. “Seo. Seo, did you see her? She pushed her off the stairs–” The rest of her sentence was quickly swallowed down. Her lips pursed closely together when she realized her blunder. She thought Seoyeon remained quiet out of suspense for the scene they watched together. Byunghee’s eyes hadn’t left the screen long enough to notice that Seoyeon’s eyes were closed. There was no point in continuing the drama without her friend, so she folded her laptop screen down and placed it to the other side. All of her movements were executed with extra care and minimal jerks so she wouldn’t wake the other up. Though having Seoyeon’s head on her shoulder restricted her motions, she tried her best regardless. Seoyeon deserved a good rest.
✿ = buying them flowers .
Byunghee smacked herself in the face with the palm of her hand. “The cute ahjumma got to you too, didn’t she?” She looked at the flowers in Seoyeon’s hand then back at the one in her own. Persuasive salespeople were one of her weaknesses. At the top of the list was also seeing loved one’s reactions when she got them presents. Her original intention was to surprise Seoyeon with her favorite flowers but somehow the situation got flipped around on her simultaneously. “Did I at least get your favorite flowers right?” She laughed, feeling half embarrassed by how things turned out. “We should get these in water soon.”

Of course the first thing outside of wonder what the heck the occasion was she did was to smell the flowers. She shouldn’t accept things from people when the reasoning behind them weren’t clear yet but the vibrant colors and variety of the flowers called to her. She couldn’t do anything but answer their call. Her arms reached out for them automatically and her head lowered into the bouquet to gather a good whiff. These didn’t seem like the regular, more affordable, type of flowers that one would typically see around. She blinked a few times at him. “Did I do something recently to deserve these?”
Jaesong had attempted to block anyone around him out - they didn’t need to see him like this, especially if they had kids at the daycare. It wasn’t their problem, it was his and unwanted attention would more than likely bring even more problems to his table. He came to this bench in particular because it was a comforting one: when he first moved to Busan the view from the bench was, to him, breathtaking and just sitting on it relaxed him.
He glanced over at the woman beside him and, if he could, attempted to shoot her an apologetic smile but he was far too occupied by regulating his breathing. As she spoke, his breathing was slowing - not enough where he was out of the attack, but sure signs were happening. He waved a hand dismissively, indicating he would be fine. “It’s-fine..- one…moment,” he gasped in short breaths and after a few minutes his breathing was at a semi-normal pace once more.
Byunghee had every intent on moving away to give him space. Instead she remained stationary and noted each rise and fall of his breath. The sound of decrescendo relieved the tension building in her shoulders. Each ebb and flow of his breathing came slower and slower, like waves calming down after a storm. She couldn’t recall how long she sat there with the guy whose name still eluded her. A watch was not part of her wardrobe today and the option of glancing at her phone didn’t occur to her. She only had the inhales and exhales as the sand in her makeshift hour glass.
To be the first one to speak up didn’t seem like a good idea. She didn’t want to shock him or cause any unnecessary stress. Though unspoken, her offer to him to tell her if he needed something still stood firm. She figured she might as well wait and see if he would ask anything of her. Her gaze casted off towards the horizon of the landscape in front of them. This wasn’t how she wanted to share the view with someone, but she felt thankful regardless. For his wellbeing and his company.
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] honestly it was the combination of the soju and him giving legitimate criticism of the french new wave movement and then the soju bombs
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] he was sort of cute if you squinted a bit and looked at things other than his face
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] i don’t know what’s worse though. he could be masturbating to my underwear, he could be showing it off to his weird friends, or he could do some weird arthouse film with them. who steals underwear anyways
[ ✉ → Seo Seo ] WAIT! From the way you talked about him I thought he was handsome. :\ How much Soju did it take for him to become cuter....
[ ✉ ] You deserve so much better than this pervert ><
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] hey so remember how i told you i started talking to that really interesting guy from my cinematography class? well i slept with him and that’s neither here nor there really
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] the thing is i think he stole my underwear, like i think he actually walked out of my apartment with my panties.
[ ✉ → jazzy cat ] they were such a cute pair too and that pervert stole them. the nerve of some people
[ ✉ → Seo Seo ] Seoyeon how did things escalate so quickly omg
[ ✉ ] He sounds like one of those perverts that would probably try to sell underwear!!! OR keep them for other perverted reasons :\\\\\\\

The lights burned a bright red the same way her veins probably appeared in her eyes. Between the constant yawning and the eye rubs, it wouldn’t surprise Byunghee if her eyes glowed like the ON AIR light on the corner of the glass window. Along the pane were finger smudges and prints but not a soul was at the station other than a few stragglers from the previous show, a soundboard PD, herself, and Joohyun. Byunghee raised her thumbs and eyebrows up and the latter held up both her thumbs as well, completing the show ritual as the intro music played.
Byunghee watched Joohyun lean herself forward, lips barely hovering over the mic screen and lashes fluttering down. Byunghee’s chest inflated with an unintentional breath drawn in awe, but with care as to not make any noises into her own mic.
“Ah, what’s this?” There was an evident playfulness with the lilt in Joohyun’s voice. Byunghee could close her eyes and still hear the smile in the tone.
“The long commercial break didn’t scare you guys away? Wah, I applaud you all for listening to Serenity Radio on LOVE FM 100.3 stationed in Seoul. For those just tuning in, we’re on air from daily from nine to one and my name is Joohyun. I’ll be your main host for yet another Saturday night. I will now let a guest DJ, who’s a very close friend of mine I’m sure you’re all familiar with, take over this segment.”
A shuddering breath shook itself free from Byunghee’s lips. Usually Joohyun would guide her through the talk segments. The only time she spoke without any assistance was with introducing songs she hand picked herself. She readjusted the headset clamped around her head a bit before shooting Joohyun a silent scream of panic behind her glance.
Her friend gave her their typical gesture of support in the form of two thumbs up. She leaned into her own mic and closed her eyes.
“Hello everybody,” she started while grasping onto the edge of the table. “My name is Byunghee and I’m very happy to be here. Thank you for inviting me back to the show and into your homes while you listen to this. There’s only an hour left in the day, so let’s spend it well together.”
Once the first words were out, the rest flowed along with the proceeding current. She peeked down at the script and gently flattened her hands out on either side of it.
The rush felt similar to performing, she noticed, but with its own subtle differences. She kept the common points in mind though. She eased into each sentence with the same delicate touch that a light ballad needed. The breathing and phrasing couldn’t be ignored, neither could the tone of voice.
“I want to start off with a poem by Chun Yang Hee.
To you, who eats because of the loneliness
To you, who sleeps because of the weariness
To you, who cries because of the sadness,
I write this:
Consume a difficult situation as you would your rice
As you will have to overcome/swallow both.”
She breathed out a soft chuckle. “I heard this for the first time in a drama. Whether this is your first or second time hearing this, it’s still pretty nice. Don’t you think?
“Even if you can’t digest your worries as the poem suggests, it’s okay. If you’ve had a long day or a long week, at least it is Saturday night. Your worries will be part of the past very soon. If you need someone to tell you you will get over this, let me be that person to cheer you on. Unnie, fighting! Oppa, fighting! Dongsaengs, fighting! Tonight our theme is inspirational songs that lift the soul, so stick with us for as long as you can. Please enjoy this next song. It’s called an old American song called Feeling Good by Nina Simone.”
The light on her mic went out the same time the music faded in. Byunghee could sink into her chair as her body slumped down. She watched Joohyun clap joyously from behind the script she hid her face behind. Between singing occasionally and this, she thought to herself, she could get used to doing this.
‘Okay’ he stops for a moment to consider how calm that sounds - not that he is expecting screeching and fireworks, but still, he gets the answer he’s been hoping for. She could have said no, as he thought she would, or maybe even pose more obstacles than necessary only to demote him but no. There is a simple okay and now he strangely doesn’t know what to do with it.
“Well, yes, you are wonderful and I am forever thankful, which by the way is not me kissing your ass, you know I suck at that; the puppy eyes are my limit whenever I beg for anything” he says, allowing himself the right to rant for a little while before he is back to being confused and wondering if he said something weird. He didn’t make ‘hotel plans’ and he is positive that getting to the wedding venue will take considerably less than five hours. “Why a hotel though? I think I’d be able to afford a cheap motel at best and that is so not the place for you. But you can sleep over at my house if you want to” His head works fast on problem solving and even when he doesn’t fully understand them, he takes the time to consider all the variables to bring them together and something is definitely missing.
“Wait– no, we wont ‘take’ five hours to GET there. Was that what I said? Did I get the words mixed again?” he pouts childishly even through his own possible mistake “No, I meant we have five hours. I’m taking the time that we’ll take to get there into consideration already; it’s like, forty-five minutes. I meant we had five hours to get ready actually and I know you want to scream at me for the short notice because I know, girls need time and there’s the dress and all – but I didn’t think you would say yes or I’d have come earlier–” he stops then, blinks once; blinks twice. “I’m going really fast, aren’t I?”
Facts were failing her, especially since she recalled then erroneously. Her face planted into the palms of her hands. “I’m sorry I misunderstood,” she said muffled. Just when she was under the impression that she had the situation figured out, everything became inverted even more. She wanted to ask him why he ended up asking her at all if he predicted that she would’ve said no even under ideal circumstances ( something that she inadvertently disproved ). Knowing her tendency to come through for friends when they were in a pinch, the answer was apparent though. Plus she already said yes. All other surrounding details leading up to that didn’t matter under such a time crunch.
( Maybe with the exception of the embarrassment that for a moment he thought she was asking for a hotel for no reason. )
“Fast is okay. The event is in five hours and fast is good.” She finally dropped her hands and pushed her dish with the barely touched cinnamon bun on top to the side. Dress, he mentioned a dress. “One moment...” She pulled away from the table, but paused right beside him for a second. “Don’t think you’re off the hook for springing this on me though.” As she went away she mumbled under her breath, “Should’ve asked me sooner.”
She got herself in the living room as fast as she could push her wheels. Most of her clothes were still in boxes that littered around in a corner since she didn’t anticipate having an event to dress up for. Finger nails picked at edges of the tapes holding the cardboard close and hands ripped it off, then pulling tops and skirts out like tissues from a box. Her dresses were all there. Thank God. She didn’t know if any of these would match the occasion or even match what Xiujin was planning on wearing, but at least she had them.
“Xiujin-ie,” she called out as she re-entered the dining area, not wasting any time. “Have you already picked out what you wanted to wear?”
The chatter spread quicker than fire in this case. After all, this as a first: a renowned and classy restaurant such as this, serving a customer food full of ‘little stones’ - upon further subtle investigation it was verified the stone were actually similar to diamonds- and Seungji’s blood ran cold
How could he have fucked up this bad?! He was better than this!
Now was not the time to curse at himself for the big ass mistake, he needed to think forth- trying to think while being shouted at to not lazy around was always hard, he had yet to do some more finishing touches but at the same time he needed to track down and retrieve those things!
“Must be mine” he blurted, much to some of the staff’s shock “ My grandma’s jewels she..she told me to keep them safe i..which customer was it exactly?” he looks around with big imploring eyes and a pale face. That certainly helped him getting some answers and with his apron ditched he was being led out by one of the waiters who pointed out a certain girl.
“Thanks” he nodded dismissively and with a deep breath headed for her. Here’s to hoping he didn’t starter with his stutter mania again.
“Ex-excuse me” he stops by the girl’s side and dipped his head in a polite little bow “ Hi I’m o-one of the s-seus chef uh I heard you found um stones in your food? I deeply a-apologize ma’am I am as-ashamed of myself and maybe I take those stones p-please? I will also get you a new d-dish” his teeth dig into hi lower lip as unblinking eyes watch her.
Sous chef... Her head dipped down a touch. It was really just a nod, signifying that she finally accepted the reality that someone that young was already so successful. ( A common trend she discovered during her time in Busan; from the business owners to the physicians. ) But on the outside it probably seemed like a lazy bow, which worked well enough for the time being. She paid close attention to his uniform. It matched that of the other chefs here so at least he wasn’t lying on that part. His hand however... She kept looking for a ring. When that search came up unfruitful, she looked for a tan line that it might’ve left.
She had no room to suspect him but the fact that she could’ve choked on these jewels left a bitterness in her gut. “Don’t worry,” she replied calmly in response to his nerves more than his words. His stutter made her feel a grain of guilt inside, but the fact of the matter was that he should worry about dropping things into food.
“May I ask you a quick question?” Her pensive expression never left her features. “How did your... Stones end up in the food? Where did they come from?” While the server was away to relay her message she pondered the possibilities, countless of them even. She would assume chefs had to remove all jewelry before cooking. It was just common sense. This sous chef in particular could’ve left his ring on, but five diamonds of this size on a ring was pretty flashy for anybody. Then came the conundrum of how exactly the jewels got loose into the food.
