Minoru Mineta Week: Day 4 - Heart
Did another aesthetic moodboard!
@minetaweek
I came back for a moment since the series ended but why is the tag more full of mineta hate now. Isn't there an anti mineta tag
Let's talk about Spacetoons Mineta...
Spacetoons is an arabic channel that semi-recently dubbed MHA. Some may call it "Arabic 4kids," but as someone who watched a substantial amount of shows in a 4Kids dub. (namely SonicX), that's not a fair comparison. The only 4 kids dub I actually enjoyed was that of "Kirby: Right back at ya"
Anyway, the BokuNometaAcademia sub brought to my attention the way that Mineta is written here. I have always hated how Hori used Mineta to live out his weird fantasies. The inclusion of Mineta's "comedy" turned a lot of people, me included off and honestly, why wouldn't it.
Spacetoons is more child-tuned so they did a lot of censorship, for example, look what they did to Momo
(They also greatly improved her character)
You may be asking, "What did they do with Mineta?" Valid question considering 70% of his character is horny jokes. Well, the completely removed the perv aspect and made him a loveable kid who wants to fight his insecurities and be great hero.....
I have always said it, Mineta holds some great potential. His moment during the USJ arc was a great stepping stone for some great character growth. The idea of a coward pushing to become a true hero is so different from the norm, but as we know, when it comes to MHA, potential don' get used.
From what I hear from spacetooneta, he is actually really likeable. He is so different from Canoneta that people mistaken him for a girl. The scenes where he is being pervy are either edited out completely or altered convincingly.
They changed the scene from season 3's filler episode so that the context is as follows:
Kaminari and Mineta want to goof off at the pool
Mineta has overheard that the girls have booked the pool too
They convince Izuku to come w/them so that they can get there before the girls
Izuku invites Tenya and the others and Tenya makes them train instead of goofing off
The girls are here, goofing off while they have to train
The most nuts part is that viewers of that dub absolutely LOVE HIM. He suprassed Bakugou in popularity even. This shows that Hori could have made one of the most loveable characters in Shounen. Think about it, his design is already cute, just slap a cute personality on and everyone would love him. But no, he had to be a creepy perv.
Canon Mineta sucks man
AU if Mineta was good rep for short kings
Context:
ongoing joke of my little sister asking every time I do a BNHA design when I’m going to redesign him.
perv anime gag character trope sucks and im mad it robbed me of a Little Guy.
he has a lot of features I like in other characters (funky design, somewhat goofy quirk which he makes work by being clever about it).
I genuinely think he could have been good rep un ironically why did he have to be like that :((.
[Image description: digital drawing of Mineta against a bright purple background and a marquee of his hero name. His costume redesign consists of dark purple tripp pants with bands of grape-ball studs, a cropped vest in yellow and white with hoodie strings that look like stems, oversized goggles and headphones. Thick wristbands mirror the studded panels on this pants. End description.]
I’m not even as active in the MHA fandom as I was before, but god fucking damn Hori just had to drop so much Mineta content during my departure 😭😭
Minoru Mineta from BNHA moodboard
friendly reminder that mineta minoru is canonically talented at drawing.
actually i’m gonna reblog this to also remind everyone that CANONICALLY,,,, Mineta is objectively a better dresser than Bakugou.
Look at that fit????? Like literally, everything fits — and then you have Mr. Baggy I-Dress-Like-Early-2000s-Eminem over on the other side ldksfjlksdfjkldsfjkldsfjd.
HE’S LIKE A BABY 😭😭😭
Wittle babby
my bright future is just ahead
oh, wow...mineta fandom on tumblr is presumably dead, but i am still alive! so i'm posting annual art for mineta's birthday
it's been 4 years of drawing this little guy...i'm not surprised anymore)))
Let's talk a bit about Mineta
I am aware that Mineta is not the most beloved character, but for me it is an interesting case. Although he starts out as a pervert, with the progress of the manga and anime his dirty jokes have disappeared.
Something I really like about him is that there are times when he really cares about his teammates. He tried to offer his power to AFO in exchange for him not stealing Tokoyami's Dark Shadow, and that was a very noble and brave thing to do.
Another interesting case is the way he sees Midnight. Yes, at first he had a dirty interest in her, but then we got to see a Mineta genuinely concerned for his teacher's safety (something even Mina sympathized with), to the point that he was horrified to learn of her death.
One character he has always seemed to admire and show the most concern for is Midoriya.
Mineta has shown to care a lot about Izuku. Let's remember that during the sports festival he became frantic when he found out that the green-haired man would need surgery. During the battle between Deku and his class, Mineta says that he never thought the power of One For All was amazing, but what made Minoru admire Izuku was how he leads everyone to victory despite being scared himself. I remember that many thought that Mineta was bisexual when this scene came out in the manga, but the truth is, he was only showing how much he admires Izuku and how worried he was about him. come on, he became so fond of Midoriya that he cried when the civilians treated him badly.
Mineta, like other characters, has matured quite a bit (although to be fair, sadly his growth has been left in the background due to the fact that his participation is currently not very prominent), he has even regretted past acts, such as calling "Octopus" to Shoji, for which he apologized.
And as I mentioned at the beginning of the post, another sign of his maturity is that… He hasn't said or done anything perverted in a long time.
What is this about? I think that it is because of what I mentioned when Mineta apologizes to Shoji, he is maturing. He was perverted at first because he was the typical hormonal teenager, but like anyone and with the story becoming more and more serious, he put those behaviors aside.
In fact, it calls my attention how the character used to be used for a not very pleasant humor, however, now his jokes are quite innocent, like when he imitates Shoto.
I have to say, despite the fact that this is a character growth that goes very unnoticed, I really like it! I feel that with the advancement of the anime we will be able, perhaps, to have a much more developed growth of Mineta. If he already apologized to Shoji, maybe he'll apologize to the girls for his perverted acts. Horikoshi mentioned a while ago that he wanted to work on Mineta's attitude, so I'm hopeful to see Grape Juice continue to improve!
This was just wonderful post regarding the grape!
It's worth to mention how Mineta's statement towards Midoriya is something that is really special in relation to Midoriya's low self esteem. Midoriya during the war arc mentions that he doesn't want to be the "worthless Deku who doesn't save anyone", which connects to the idea that Midoriya ties his own self worth with the quirk OFA because he never had one and was bullied for it. Mineta's statement to Midoriya shows:
1. He is a hero regardless of a powerful quirk (goes back to All Might in later chapters saying that one can be a hero without a quirk) 2. A heroic heart (bravery) is something that makes a good hero (this was also mentioned by Kirishima when he was in middle school). 3. It's a SIGNIFICANT example of the separation in one's power/flashiness and personality.
It is a very straightforward declaration, yet conveys so much meaning when looking at the themes of BNHA. Such a statement is something Midoriya needs in order to come to terms with his self-esteem and OFA.
how will you remember me?
sometimes i wonder how all people who are around minoru see him. like, how will they remember him after a graduaton and when they go separate ways? i want to think about it more, because, come on. they won't be that close as now forever...that's just a part of growing up that i don't see represented often now
Something that cracks me up is that Mineta is canonically a FASHION KING but then when you see his hero costume, it's so goofy and silly.
Grown up Mineta wip :3
Daily wholosome wish to Mineta, day 10: After the war I just want him to be happy, maybe get thanks from Tokoyami for defending him from AFO.
will i ever find my way and go the distance?
anyway, random thing for an au i like to think about!! i really like to wonder, how mineta's going to feel after graduating ua and seeing all of his friends being cool and being the heroes of their dreams, while he is, well...mineta.
