Couldn’t have listened to a better duo this past week
These were taken 6/23/23
I still have teeny weeny curls. The black was COMPLETELY faded out, I’m currently looking for another color. I interlocked my hair for the first time ever this day and I had ripped a couple locks out because the hair kept getting tangled and combine while I was trying to retighten. I hadn’t done any root maintenance in two months prior to this picture. Due to frequent ponytail usage the back locs are longer because I kept brushing those. The short ones have shrunken. I think I’m in the budding stage for the top ones but I don’t know. The shine is gone completely now and their pretty much just fuzzy now. I like the color changes their get brighter every hair wash. I also was still washing my hair every couple weeks and moisturizing too just no retwisting. I figured I’d interlock tho because I haven’t retwisted in a while but that was the WRONG decision I keep retwisting.
I also don’t like the feeling that I’m the first black girl a lot of the 17 18 year olds have seen. Just a feeling… but still unsettle med with that comes little comments and expressions they may have. Nothing racism but nothing that says I’m considered normal either. I also don’t like that their fast program means that I still learn new material during finals week for all of my classes. And the the habit of cramming continues through the program although reading ahead is smart and wise. Making time for those strategies should come first which will always be achievable no matter what program your in, I just feel like I’m paying too much money for something like that. With some teachers still half assings things. I know that teacher lack of performance is prevalent in any school. With circumstances of school plus the outcome of vet techs in general being financially and mentally. Example: frequent burnout low wage, slim specialty opportunities right after school, etc. I’m actually not willing to make the commitment. It’s alittle too demanding of a culture as a whole when no one in the career field could never become anything more than a vet tech at start with. But this isn’t a complaint just an experience and overall observation. I’m glad I lived out a dream for awhile but now it’s time for another one.
I’m currently in my break but technically it isn’t for me because I’m no longer going to be attending VTI nothing I didn’t feel coming but it was alittle shocking to myself when I made the decision. I realized how much j liked taking care of the care of the animals but I don’t like doing it with kids. I’m older than most of the students and because it’s rash to get into the program to you can imagine how many weirdos and entitled kids have enroll and will continue to. If you know you know. I’m also a black fella and know the circumstances of the black population in vet med. I’ll always be willing to try things out and vet med culture did not stop me. I also took a consideration being in Pittsburgh as well researching the demographics. Although demographics isn’t the entire reason of my departure it did make me a bit uncomfortable that I only seen only a handle full on black girls in the program
I got over 40 hours of volunteer experience this term helping the kittens in kennel . Since surgery term was this term as long for the students in 6th term that meant that the animals would go to their forever home would leave this term because after they get surgery they’re good to go. So we got more animals during the term and I had the privilege of caring with other students while they were in quarantine kennel. It was amazing hard work!!!!
Most of my glasses were about an hour I think time longest glass was Animal anatomy and physiology 1. Term 2 consisted of 3 glasses for me. That being Clinical medicine, Animal Technology 2 and Clinical laboratory.
Clin med was mostly about breeds this term. Learning all types of cows, horses, pigs, cats, and dogs,no exotics at all. They touch alittle on exotics later in the programs. The course also went over vaccines and illnesses like feline leukemia and why some may require vaccines and others don’t.
Animal tech went over blood draws, injections , and catheters. I did a good amount of blood draws and saline injections in this class. I very informative but alittle disorganized. Which could be stressful depending on what type of learner you are and the teacher teaching methods. No catheters are done on real animals btw.
Clin lab is learning and using the microscope. Getting comfortable and used to it. The way my teacher preferred us to learn help me feel ALOT more comfortable with them by the times finals came around. She just had days where that was the only thing we were using and she’d help if needed. Other than that, Red blood cells, alittle about white blood cells, the lifespan of them, and the difference between species of cell lifespans. If you like cells you’ll be good in this class.
A&P 1 goes over basic knowledge of the animal body such as muscles, nerves, bones, skin and directional terms like caudal, dorsal, cranial etc.
In term two there was a lot more free time for me because I had taken classes they they were offering so I had a huge gap in the middle of my day to study or go out for a proper lunch. Most of my 2 hour lunches were spent handling errands I had to run such as post office things etc. I had some job interviews and doctors appointments too during the breaks. I tried handling things I’d miss out on during the week because my last class was over at 3:20
So term 2 was a smooth transition from beginner work to intermediate. I say that because the work load to study dramatically increased but the assignments and tests were simple. Not very intricate in questioning what you should know. Test questions were at a very mild level for the smoking of material sometime complex material I had to study. Teachers focused on big pictures meanings.
I’ve literally had a my hair in a high puff or ponytail this entire two months. I haven’t retwisted it or anything it was supposed to be a break but more of an Afro break not a ponytail break. I wanted my hair to breath from retwist but I’ve been so busy and lazy with my hair ponytails and pineapples been it.
STILL OVER IT by Summer Walker, 11.05.21
I recently started listening to this beautiful album while I’ve been studying omg some of these songs have been stuck in my head for too many days I don’t know how musicians like her make such catchy stuff but I hope she keep it goin
Omg so yesterday was cool I got to help out with these little kittens that just came in. It’s nine of them total and a couple of them are sooo freaking sweet. I already picked out my favorite one his name is cosmo he’s the creamy color one and my tech teacher did a demonstration of a cephalic catheter with two assistants (2 other teachers) so that everyone in the class room could see. It was super cool. She did the demo on a fake limb which is what we used to practice on. I felt really grateful to work with the kitties knowing only certain people can take care of them as they’re quarantined right now. Lab was fun too. We used the centrifuge, the refractometer because we were learning about erythrocytes and plasma. Like what colors of plasma mean what and like what the mean corpuscular volume is of our hematocrit.
She was soooooooo sweet!! Look at those fingers so tiny
I didn’t know kitten had such long nails
Second week of term I had to go peak in the quarantine room. We got some new kittens. I forgot her name but week 2 hit me hard I the workload was alittle hard but it could have been my mindset.
My mind was out of it the first week and it was worse the second week. The work load seems more in depth in second term it was hard to keep up. But I finished first term with a 3.0 gpa.
Week 1 of term 2 was really chill but I getting back to it felt weird. Like remembering when to study, how I studied and getting back to dog walking and the routine I had.
Omg soooo cutttteeeee🥰🥰🥰
Term 2 is a lot more peaceful that last term already. We had a test Friday on lab equipment but j had to skip that class for medical reasons so I’ll take it Monday. But, in tech class, Friday we had our first skills day of the term. We had to bring our skills book and a mask since we’d all be working closely together.
It was fun! We did subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Half of us chose one type of injection and the other half chose the other.
It was cats day so we all had an opportunity to work on a cat of our choice depending on the group. We injected them with saline because it was practice and afterward we just practice proper technique on how to on how to use a syringe and fill it properly.
Spring break is here!!! I passed all my classes which I will say it wasn’t hard to do but it was tedious. Term 1 has come to a finish. The animals will be back after spring break and term 2 will begin. I’m not ecstatic about my exam scores but there’s always next term to to outdo myself. I’ve never felt such wear and tear on my brain like that before from exams. Finals weeks was pretty rough on me but the tests themselves were pretty easy for the especially for those who studied. I walk chomper yesterday morning. He is the sweet Pitt bull with chocolate spots. He loves his toys but he’ll go crazy if you try to take the them. When I was walking him he had mistaken my hoodie for his toy and we were playing tug of war outside for a couple minutes because he wouldn’t let go. He’s a really big boy, I eventually got my hoodie back in one piece and he resumed playtimes. But that was little scary lol. Once i got home i did my hair and ate some Spanish food while I caught up on a couple shows. And went to bed and got some DECENT sleep. It felt like I was running on fumes all month long.
I love chomper, he’s so cute.
Antonio is the black cat and that’s buster looking down one me.
One more final to go!!! I’m already starting to feel the freedom. All the animals will be going to there foster homes. Antonio looks like who doesn’t care where he goes, he just wants his cuddles everyone and then lol.
