Also just everything about the aeducans is so messy and nuanced. It's Advanced Cousland in that you get betrayed except you dont see it coming at all because the guy doing it is your sweet little brother who you used to play games and have food fights and chase nugs and grieve your mother with. Not some random family friend with 'Villain' written on his forehead. It's your baby brother. You know. The one you can't ever see grown up. The one whose eyes somewhere along the line went from big and wondrous and wanting to be just like you, to grown up and hungry. And he kills trian. Oh my god he kills the one you looked at like that.

all that said i know it's canon that dwarves almost never die in the joining. but i favor the idea of them reacting to it more like griffons. dwarves have such a deep and personal hatred of darkspawn that the joining often just outright drives them mad. they probably live most of the time but i imagine their calling comes for them a lot sooner and they're a lot more darkspawn-esque than your typical non-dwarf warden (even bigger appetites, an even crazier intuition/hive mind when it comes to their fellow wardens, a much stronger darkspawn sense ability, strength and stamina that is just a straight up FRENZY in battle on top of usually being berserkers etc etc). and yeah

ppl talk about cousland having a degenerative arc, but honestly cousland can't beat out aeducan in terms of going from high to low

aeducan was literally royalty, meaning they lived even more lavishly than cousland, so it was an even bigger adjustment to being poor

they weren't just betrayed by a family friend they were betrayed by their OWN BROTHER, and then they have to decide whether to put their fratricidal brother on the throne over harrowmont

they can't even marry alistair in order to regain their royalty status like cousland can

in addition to being poor for the first time, they also have to adjust to an entirely differently environment. imagine living underground your whole life only to come to the surface and find out you're allergic to grass

they ALSO have to adjust to being a minority. they went from people bowing to them to being called racial slurs for the first time

and just to rub it in, everything is too tall

Underappreciated moment of peak comedy: when you're busting Lucanis out of the ossuary and you're stuck in an elevator with him. I read the fanfics before playing and y'all really did not convey to me when you first recruit him how fucking creepy Lucanis is. There's all this build up of dead guards on the way to his cell.
