Mortarion WIP, being armoured up kind of like a bugs chrysalis being built, I also wanted to draw him mutilated and messed up from his upbringing etc. = the tender bitter grub inside of the shell and such 🤔

I had an idea for an angron design, and I wanted to know your thoughts on it.

You see, i had an idea about Angrons overly broad frame compared to his fellow primarchs and why he is built this way.

1. his purpose: Angrons idea was never to be a fighter but instead a healer, but more specifically, a defensive primarch his healing used to keep things steady, basically a wall to keep the attacker from pushing forward.

2. Herbivorous animals: More specifically, the Bisons, my idea was that angrons body naturally developed similar to that of a bisons focusing on being safe from predators or, in this case, other gladiators by way of overwhelming size, and besides his nails this herbivorous mentality can also be used to described his more erratic behavior, and how he's constantly more on edge.

3. The build: 1 thing that I remember is that people say angron is short but wide, but if I remember correctly, there was a passage about pre daemon angron standing at Horus's height. So now that the height is out of the way, Onto the Frame. I believe Angrons neck-Back proportions may give him a hunched appearance somwhat, and maybe he could have a hunched over back due to him having to constantly look down during the gladiator pits to actually strike, that or angron just has really good vision, that are used for spread out sight, I also think angron would has I incredibly thick skin even compared to the other pimarchs to shrug off more violent damage.

4. I think angron would have a thick browridge and a far broader nose, similar to a neandrathal even if It's still Aquiline, they would still be overly broad to help with making his head a functioning shock absorber when combined with the hunched back/neck.

5. Really, just for the rest of angron, i believe his body took the herbivorous route of just speaking into overwhelming bulk and width, while normal, this is a good thing for one on one's, against smarter foes like how bison are done by wolves this is a disadvantage. Just like what we saw with leman and angron, angron most definitely would and could destroy leman in a 1 on 1, but when outsmarted and not going completely insane angron is at the disadvantage.

So overall, that's my idea for big Ron before the daemon stuff and could also be the explanation for why daemon angron is so hunched forward, as we do see many of the primarch always keep their og frame, so for angrons to be lore hunched I decided to maybe give it a more reasonable explanation than just khorne go berrrr.

But yeah, I'm gonna continue working on his design as a baseline, but I wanted to know if my idea for angry ron pre daemons proportions could be not to outlandish

I think your hc are very reasonable. i just draw him looking vaguely like guilliman because i find it humorous and he must of been normally attractive at some point to be popular, i draw him hunched over just because hes willfully holding a submissive posture from ingrained training not for any real biological reason though. Maybe khorne cementing his subconscious behaviours into a physical manifestation forever similar to the chains and being turned into the mythological figure that was an imprisoned bastard child if a king

Space marines grooming each other (like hair dressing, helping them armour shaving or something not actual grooming - I guess they groom each other normally (not the space Wolves licking each other but for being a fucked up transhuman) but I mean the aesthetic type, if it's both at the same time that's fine (excessive rambling))- chapter or chaos alignment doesn't matter, maybe you have an idea of something that would be an interesting cultural or social practice ^^

there were more interesting ways to pull this off perhaps, but, i'm tired. Just two old men. Perhaps from different legions, admiring each other's hair textures.

Saw people bitching on Reddit about how it's implausible for the Primarchs to be so emotionally immature as 200 year old genius war veterans. They even went so far as to cite it as an example of bad writing.

And like...that's wild to me? That anyone thinks emotional maturity is just a thing that happens if you wait long enough? Or that being hyper-intelligent guarantees emotional intelligence? Have you even met people before??

The Primarchs reached physical maturity at a rapid rate, I think the time frame spans anywhere between 1-10 years. So there were Primarchs being treated as infallible demi-god kings after only being alive for three years. They are not having anything CLOSE to a normal childhood.

With normal humans, there's a noted phenomenon where the emotional development of celebrities is often stunted at the age they became famous; if you skyrocketed to stardom at 16 years old, you'll likely be walking around in a 40 year old's body but functioning with a teenagers maturity level. It's because their ability to grow into healthy emotional maturity is disrupted by trauma, a lack of normal social development, intense pressure/responsibility, etc.

Most of the Primarchs grew into 9ft toddlers overnight and then no one had the balls to tell them "I think you're acting like a dumb bitch, actually" ever again. Most of them, from the jump, were taught the entire world revolved around them. That is TERRIBLE for you.

And then there's the fact that a fair share of them had traumatic, abusive childhoods. One of the hallmarks of a traumatized kid is a certain degree of age-inappropriate maturity, like a 12 year old who talks and operates like a grown ass adult. But what people tend to forget is that while traumatized kids are hyper-mature in some areas, they'll also be extremely immature in others.

As a former traumatized child, I had adults remarking on my precociousness all the time when I was a teen; I had a very world weary outlook, I understood and could converse about adult topics, I was extremely self-sufficient...but I'd also have fuckin tantrums over minor inconveniences. I couldn't regulate my emotions even if you'd paid me. I was self-centered and petty and volatile as hell.

Dang, sounds familiar.

The Primarchs who do have some semblance of emotional maturity? Guilliman, Dorn and Khan: three guys with stable, loving family units. Guilliman also had a mom there who'd call him out on his bullshit, he had someone to hold him accountable, he wasn't allowed to be an infallible demi-god. This makes a difference.

And cognitive intelligence really means fuck all when it comes to emotional intelligence. My mom's dad was a mathematics professor at Yale for a bit, but he quit his position because he could not fucking handle students correcting him sometimes. My mom had to grow up in poverty because her dad would have a massive self-destructive crashout and quit a job anytime someone said "Well actually--". He'd grown up being told he was a special infallible genius by a coddling mother and it fuckin destroyed him, it made him insufferable.

Once again: sounds familiar, yeah?

And I shouldn't even have to explain why "if you live long enough, you'll eventually become emotionally mature" is ridiculous, we all know boomers who act like annoying toddlers. That is...insanely common.

Like it really shouldn't be hard to conceptualize why someone who's been denied ANY shot at normal human emotional development would act like a 13 year old boy at 200 years old.

has anyone ever met a mature person 80+ years old you kind of become peak admiration stage at 50-60 then the sub-conditions of old age get you and youre screaming at your neighbour because they' ve parked in front of your house + you have the insider knowledge that the general population will get in trouble for pushing on the re-opening soft spots on your skull so can freely act fucking crazy all the time. Being in the position of being a primarch where your victim supreme eternal through your charasmatic power, the genetic engineering of a broiler chicken and having serf choir A (the 80th edition due to previous ones being annihilated) being assigned to glaze you all day, in that situation wouldn't you go a bit insane inevitably even if you were the most balanced person on earth. They all have old person disease

Hey you're one of the only people I've ever seen talk about the primarchs and astartes in the context of reproductive/sexual abuse, which is a theme i'm very interested in that feels like it should be more obvious

I think it serves as a slightly more detailed framework for why Angron behaves like that.

Rambling

For the other kid-beating primarchs they have to reconcile their implanted instinct that your master designer father genuinely values you while he simultaneously makes heaps of replacement pseudo clones of you that necessitate the amputation of children from their actual parents. The result of this is a totally obedient creature that's only devoted to you and instinctual my believes you live it no matter what (annoying), which you then hate and have got to hypocritically beg your father to not hate you as well because you've been totally obedient. Perturabo maybe would of stopped trying to cheese grate his son if they rebelled from him treating them like shut but the iron warriors got the get abused infinitely gene from him so it's inescapable. Would the crusade have been successful without the existence of chaos and the heresy even when they're genetically engineered for abusive relationships.

I also like to hc that Vulkan went against his nature and has some cute notably independent astartes that he's managed to raise into mostly normal adults apart from the killing machine thing. A Salamander would reject getting hugged by their primarch half of the time because they're secure in their relationship and have gotten coddled enough as a kid + have the agency and security to consent or not consent to stuff. While normal appearing but still weird legions like EC and BA would obsess over the circumstances that led to it happening for the rest of his life

Thankyou! uh I can say angrons life improves materially at a minimum, at a base level he is kind of left adrift in the middle of space (which he barely understands the concept of) with scary GMO creatures, experiencing a life where he's not totally dependent or controlled for the first time. So he's not really like a cool admirable person in the first hundreds of years of his life he's dependent and kind of off-puttingly mentally ill.

To minimise spoilers because I was kind of making it a dramatic exciting story.

The world eaters definitely get a better life and a father who won't tear their limbs off for fun... Konrad non consensually lives past his expiry date (and also grooms himself) under the threat of extreme violence. Perturabo and Dorn do the defence terra thing together with predictable results and the emperor of mankind actually feels sorry for one of his sons (which tells you how bad the situation is). Mortarion eats a worm.

Working on post nails angron.

Appeal points: he's had the copper/implanted sharp teeth caps removed but his teeth are still messed up so he has braces. Looks less like his face has been through a lawnmower due to him no longer stress chewing parts of his face off and pulling all of his hair out but still has significant disfigurement. Could probably get more aesthetic improvements like getting his nose unbroken and the side of his face stitched up but Vulkan decided he was already extremely stressed due to the medical ptsd aspect of getting the nails out. It's also hard to get him to consent to anything because he only doesn't understand the concept of autonomy and not having things forced on him or decided for him. His face tattoos are mainly faded (in comparison to his body tattoos) due to age they are and their increased sun exposure in addition to him not smearing blood over them regularly or or fighting anything formally. Has permanent frown wrinkles and looks a bit grumpy even when not making any expression. He drools a bit still (out of the open side of his jaw) but actually wipes it away now. Without the nails he tends to just ignore people he dislikes (the majority of them) and is extremely ineloquent and more 'timid' as in his upbringing still affects his social behaviour and confidence
