If you're posting on Tumblr, please tag the post with the hashtag #mockingwasp promptfest so that we can find and reblog it more easily. Posting is open until August 18, so don't worry if you're nowhere near ready; there's plenty of time to get works in. Thanks for all your hard work, and have fun!

Janet Van Dyne and Bobbi Morse in Unstoppable Wasp (2018) #10 by Gurihiru
News regarding the event schedule: We're adding a Planning Week to the calendar once prompts close. This means that prompt submissions will still be closing on July 20, but posting will only begin on July 28 (and will run through August 18), giving you a week to plan your work with all the prompts laid out in front of you, without the pressure to finish and post before you're ready.
Hey, everyone! We’ve opened up registration and a few participants have already signed up. There are some prompts already up at the Challenge collection if you want to take a look (you can even start claiming prompts, if you want).
Please feel free to add more prompts! If you’re already registered, you can add a prompt here. If you want to specify a prompt for a certain fandom or to request certain characters, background pairings, etc., feel free to include that in your prompt, but it’s not required.
You can also start claiming prompts. To claim a prompt, go to the prompts page and click on the “Claim” button next to the prompt you want. Keep in mind that more than one person can claim the same prompt.
Any questions? Our ask box is open!
Mockingwasp Promptfest 2019
Calling all fans of Bobbi Morse, Janet Van Dyne, Unstoppable Wasp, and awesome female characters and relationships! Get your pencils and keyboards ready for the Marvel fandom's first-ever Bobbijan fanworks event!
Registration is now open as of today, July 9, through July 20.
How it works: The collection is hosted on Archive of Our Own at https://archiveofourown.org/collections/Mockingwasp_Promptfest_2019. As this is a prompt challenge, we'll first be collecting prompts (until July 20) and then the collection will open up for works.
You can submit prompts either through the official challenge page or by sending asks to our Tumblr page (which we'll add to the challenge). When the collection opens for posting on July 21, you'll be able to fulfill prompts and add works to the collection. Each prompt can be used more than once, so don't worry if someone else has created a work for a prompt you've got your eye on!
The posting part of the event will be from July 21-August 10, and we'll be reblogging and retweeting works in order to make sure everyone involved in the event can see them. Follow us on Tumblr at @bobbi-and-janet and on Twitter at mockingwasp to make sure you don't miss anything.
What kind of fanworks are allowed? Fanfic, fanart, vids, playlists, etc. Fanfics can be any length, from drabbles to 1-5K fics to even longer if you're up for it!
Register here in order to be notified about upcoming dates and deadlines: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSed_hK3jZdHUVH4EX9Fr9uQYQnHyma4Q3Wcgux-yRh3XaxJ5w/viewform?usp=sf_link
Can I participate without registering? Yes! You can fulfill prompts and add works to the collection even if you haven't registered for the event. Registering is helpful because it gives us an idea of how many people will be participating.
Can I create a fanwork that's not connected to a prompt? Yes! We encourage creativity and we're all for more content for the ship. The prompts are there to help give creators ideas, but you're more than welcome to use your own.
If you need an Ao3 invite, please email us at [email protected].
If you have any questions about submitting or fulfilling prompts, please send an ask (anon is okay) or an email.

Mockingwasp, a History: Part II
When the truth about Phantom Rider comes out and Hawkeye wants to kick Bobbi off the team for not saving him, Jan consistently stands up for her, and afterwards, she gives Hawkeye a gentle dressing down and leaves, disappointed that she wasn’t able to help more.
(Side note: Shut up, Simon.)
Fast-forward to much later. Clint and Bobbi have reconciled (so he thinks) and then she died (so he thinks). The Grim Reaper temporarily resurrects a bunch of Avengers as part of a scheme, and at the end of it, before she disappears, Bobbi tries to get a message to be delivered to Hawkeye (who’s currently with the Thunderbolts). Janet does her best to help.
Next we have Alkhema, an evil robot created by Ultron based on Bobbi’s brain patterns back when she was still alive. Alkhema can mimic Bobbi down to the last detail. The first time Jan comes up against her after Bobbi’s death, she needs to remind herself not to think of her as Bobbi. (She’s the only Avenger on the scene to have this thought, from what we’re shown.)
In another storyline, Alkhema’s up to some really sinister stuff, so the Avengers call in Clint, knowing that he’s their best chance of taking her down. He doesn’t want to face (and possibly destroy) someone who’s basically a shadow of his dead wife, but Janet knows Bobbi would want him to.
A little while later, Jan and Clint have a fling, and you’d think that hooking up with your friend who’s also the widower of your other friend might be super weird, but I feel like it’s actually done really respectfully?
Part 1 | Part 3
I have to confess, I am very much opposed to considering the “fling” respectful in any sense. Chuck Austen completely rewrote the personalities of Jan, Hank, and Clint in order to make Clint/Jan happen, which was especially egregious since Hank and Jan had worked out their problems and tabled their relationship just one issue earlier (under a different writer). He turned Hank into a caricature of an abusive significant other, Jan into a shrinking violet who needed rescuing from him, and Clint into someone who had apparently been pining for Jan since the 80s, even while he was married. Surely not awkward at all.
Well, Chuck Austen is the king of cringeworthy relationship plots, and I don't think the Janclint hookup should have ever happened, and I agree that what he did to Hank's character was awful and out of nowhere. That being said, I didn't read Clint's confession as saying that he had been crushing on Janet while married to Bobbi. Since he always falls in love so quickly, I thought he had started thinking about Jan in a romantic way maybe a month or two before this scene, and he's being a little dramatic because that's how he gets. What I did like is that they weren't glossing over Bobbi's existence, that Clint was admitting that he still thinks about her and wishes he had been able to save her, that Janet was specifically the one he was able to confide in because he knows she understands, because she's one of the few Avengers who also remembers her and misses her. And yeah, I may be giving Austen too much credit here, but that's how I choose to interpret that scene because it fits with my reading of the characters.
Mockingwasp, a History: Part III
After Disassembled, the Avengers disband, and Captain America offers a toast in honor of Hawkeye and Ant-Man, who died in the event. The rest of the team keeps it going, remembering other fallen Avengers, and Janet is the one to toast Mockingbird.
Bobbi is revealed to be alive during Secret Invasion, at the same time that Janet supposedly dies from a Skrull biochemical weapon, so it’s a while before we see the two of them on panel together again.
In Unstoppable Wasp (2017), Bobbi meets Hank Pym’s daughter Nadia, who’s kind of being unofficially fostered by Jan (since Hank is currently dead-or-Ultron-or-something), and Nadia reveals that as both a scientist and an adventurer, Bobbi is one of her personal heroes. So when Jan puts together a lab program for Nadia and a few other teenage girl geniuses, she asks Bobbi to be a part of it, referring to her as one of her oldest friends. (Unstoppable Wasp #7 & #8)
In Unstoppable Wasp (2018), Bobbi and Janet continue working and spending a lot of time together, mentoring the girls in the lab and out of it.
With A.I.M. targeting the lab and trying to steal their inventions, it can be a handful, but what are superheroes for?
In addition to being part of the lab, Janet and Bobbi are co-raising Nadia and her best friend Ying, who's also a Red Room orphan. It's not simple, suddenly becoming a parent figure to a teenager, but Nadia and Ying are awesome, and there's plenty of love to go around.
