Mass-market mods are boring. No matter where your car originally came from, be it Germany or some other country. As soon as the new generation of VW Passat, or BMW 5-series, or even Renault Clio hits the market, here you are, sir, come and get a new suit for your new car. They even dare to call those changes modifications. Technically, they are, all those minimalistic changes to the exterior of your car, new wheels and tires and, if you are lucky enough, a new engine software so the car can go faster. However, these changes are not radical, so that can suit almost any client. A popcorn of some kind, let’s call it so.
Place: Osaka, Japan.
Object: Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7
Creator: Hideo Hirooka
Although everyone has already understood what the point of this story is, we’ll go on.
What we’ve got here today is a dark purple Mk7 Golf GTI wearing a pretty modest Voomeran bodykit. Rear-door cap-style wing and stainless steel exhaust were also made by guys from Voomeran. The bodykit isn’t anything special but this car was never meant to be a head-turner. Besides, having built some pretty awesome and crazy VW Golf projects and having made a name for themselves, Voomeran decided it was time to show everyone that they can make something mass-market and available to everyone.
After the exterior was finished, it was time for some suspension mods. The easiest and most practical way to slam your car to the ground these days is air suspension. And so it was for this purple little thing. Now it has an ACC Air Runner kit in it to lay the body on a set of two-piece Weds Maverick 709m wheels. They were chosen to slightly hide in the arches when the car is lying on the ground. Some of you might start screaming and shouting that the wheels are too big, and a smaller diameter wheels would do for a better look. Come on, there’s no point in it. It’s the way Voomeran sees it. And folks, if your ‘wagen’ is too boring, the ‘boomerang’ is coming for ya!

Nikita Shikov, who is a Russian pro-drifter, presented his new car, Toyota GT86 built by HGK Racing, on March 10, 2015. The car features a RocketBunny body kit, the stock FA20 engine was swapped in favor of a 700HP+/900NM+ 2JZ-GTE, and the suspension was modified with Wisefab front and rear kits and KW Competition coilovers. We will tell you more about it later.

It’s great when classic cars are passed in family from father to son. This Lada 1600 was bought brand-new by our today hero’s grandfather back in 1979. It was an export version made for Hungary but due to a couple of exterior details missing and after some negotiations have been done, the customs officers took the car off the train.
Artyom’s grandpa, having sold his black Volga for 45,000 rubles, bought this Lada, as it was called in the USSR, for 25,000 rubles. You could pay five to six grand in a shop for such car but for that you would have to wait several years – the deficit of goods in Soviet Union was an awful thing. Later Artyom’s father would own this car before passing it to his son in 2008.
The car needed a complete rebuild at that time. And, as it usually happens, Artyom accidentally saw some pictures of low Ladas that inspired him for the future development of his own project.
These cars have many weak spots, which need reinforcement when you modify the car. Those were A- and B-pillars and front side members and arches. Front quarter panels needed replacement, so Artyom sourced out the panels, which were produced in the USSR and were of better quality. Also, he decided that the car needed a brighter colour and, coincidentally, a fresh paintjob. Chrome parts were also refurbished and polished. Artyom found a rare beige interior that replaced the old one. The steering wheel was bought accidentally and came of a Fiat 124 Spider, while the wooden panels for the dashboard were custom-made from a piece of oak.

Thinking of road tripping, what does strike in your head when you hear ‘car trip through Italy’? It might be a small romantic trip or it might be going camping in several cars with your friends. Someone would opt for a long-distance trip, while for the others renting a small diesel hatchback would be enough. We at Bodybeat don’t like boring holidays, and that’s why we decided that this summer story of a road trip in a Fiat 124 replica was worth sharing with you.
In Russia, there is no need to introduce this car but if some of you haven’t heard of it yet, well, Fiat 124 was the base for Lada 1200 produced in the USSR from 1970 to 1988. However, it is a little bit different in case of this 1978 yellow Lada. Its owner, Andrey, inherited this car from his grandfather, and decided that it was time for it to return to its roots. Initially, it was a Lada but after two years of ownership by Andrey, it is now more of a Fiat, except for the drivetrain and air suspension.
Most of us like travelling, and Andrey, being a photographer and a creative and goal-oriented person he is, is no exclusion to this rule. He has already been to Italy a year before and several times when he was a child, so he decided to visit this beautiful country once again. No matter where you are going, emotions and good memories are what you would most certainly bring back home apart from souvenirs and photographs. Driving your own classic car during such trip would only make emotions stronger and memories brighter. Andrey had similar thoughts and drove his car all the way to Turin, which Fiat home city, to make some shots in front of the factory that was a birthplace for his car predecessors.
Andrey’s trip photographs are full of colourful fields, small cozy villages, old castles and paved streets and squares. The car looks at home here, and you would most certainly think those photographs are several decades old if not for some modern things in them. Had Andrey been a casual and boring tourist, we would hardly see photographs so beautiful and filled with freedom and sunlight.
As for the car’s behaviour during the trip, well, 36 years is quite a serious age for a car to go on road trips. Nevertheless, there were only some minor issues during the trip, and Andrey felt almost no discomfort driving from 500 to 1000 kilometers a day. Anyway, attention that the car was given by other drivers and pedestrians, especially in Italy, covered more than a fair share of it. As in everything, in travelling you set the limits by yourself. If you think that you and your car will make it, dare and try
