The beginning of the end for Jeff 🕊️ on this day on July 22 1991 Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested
I wonder what Dahmer was doing this exact time 24 years ago, on his last night of freedom. Were the sleeping pills already prepared, was he all ready to go out, had he planned the clubs he was going to go to, the type of man he wanted to pick up? It’s very interesting to imagine the last few hours in what had become a normal routine for Dahmer, knowing soon it was all going to come crashing down.
Now it’s 35 years later, and we are faced with the same unanswerable questions
35 years ago today our gay, cannibal, horny 24/7, boy snatching, wasting money on absolute bullshit, nerdy Star Wars, ugly ass hush puppy shoe wearing, alcoholic, Black Sabbath blasting, fish loving, depressed, getting his toes sucked, Thanksgiving skipper, yellow contact wearing, "Everyone is on my fucking case about the smell," saying, getting beat up in the army, jacking off 24/7, taxidermy loving, cigarette smoking, McDonald’s obsessed, watching his favorite p0rn with Dr. Park Dietz, accidentally drugging himself, surrounded by cats, people watching at malls, beefing with Dr. Palermo, p0rnographic addicted, turning to Christianity, and so much more Jeffrey Dahmer got his ass arrested at the Oxford apartments!!
Various Quotes About July 22nd
“Police Officers Rolf Mueller and Robert Rauth were finishing their 4:00 p.m.-to-midnight shifts in Milwaukee's Third Police District. They had been driving along the 2600 block of West Kilbourn Avenue, a grimy neighborhood on the fringes of the downtown area near Marquette University, the highest crime area in the inner city at the time. To the north, the main thoroughfare was peppered with strip bars and small corner grocery stores. Faded, tattered signs in the windows advertised: WE TAKE FOOD STAMPS. The neighborhood included drug dealers, prostitutes, and the unemployed mentally ill, who collected state aid because they managed to live on their own or in one of the area’s numerous halfway houses. They would carry their belongings in rusty metal grocery carts and sleep in doorways. There was evidence of the area's glory days: expansive turn-of-the-century Victorian homes, rambling apartment complexes, and stately cathedral-style dwellings. For the police, the district had the dubious distinction of being the place where more than half the city's homicides had occurred in the previous five years. That Monday, July 22, felt oppressively hot and humid, the kind of heat that would cling to the body.” Anne E. Schwartz in Monster: The True Story of the Jeffrey Dahmer Murders
“It was 11:25 P.M., a time when police cars step up their patrols in high-crime areas.” - Don Davis in The Jeffrey Dahmer Story: An American Nightmare
“Officers Mueller and Rauth were cruising along the 2500 block of West Kilbourn Avenue shortly before midnight, with the car windows rolled down because of the heat, when they spotted a black man tearing down the street like Beelzebub himself was chewing on his tail.” - Edward Baumann in Step Into My Parlor
“The Jeffrey Dahmer story crashed into public awareness during the final hours of July 22, 1991, when the Squad 31 police officers Robert Rauth and Rolf Mueller spotted Tracy Edwards through the windshield of their patrol car running toward them down North Twenty-fifth Street as if he were in terror. It was almost 11:30 P.M.” - Dr. Joel Norris in Jeffrey Dahmer
“‘Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you are about to embark upon an odyssey.' So began Gerald Boyle's opening statement at the trial of Jeffrey Dahmer on 30 January, 1992. […] The odyssey had begun, for the public at least, at 11.30 on the evening of 22 July, 1991, on the corner of Kilbourn Avenue and North 25th Street in Milwaukee. It was a sultry night and a dangerous hour, for this was a somewhat tense part of town, the scene of many a late-night argument and fight.” Brian Masters in The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer
"This wasn't a bad man, he was a sick man."
Defense attorney Gerald Boyle, speaking about Dahmer📝
🗞 Dahmer and the Fish Factory
📋 One of Jeffrey Dahmer's hobbies that was not taxidermy was simply taking care of fish in his aquarium. In his aquarium, Dahmer bred African cichlids and tiger barbs, and in the pet store, he could not take his eyes off a fish called Fugu. He said that he was fascinated by its eyes because they were "like human eyes", and he thought it was very cute. Dahmer stated it was a nice and decent hobby of his and that he would feed them in the mornings and at night—always liking to see them swim around.
Dahmer would go to The Fish Factory, located at 9218 W. Oklahoma Ave. in West Allis, Wisconsin. He was a regular at the store.
"He was a very nice guy,” said store owner, Stephen Banach. “Soft-spoken and polite. If you met him, you’d never think anything of it.” Banach says Dahmer was always a polite customer who rode a city bus to and from The Fish Factory to buy fish or aquarium supplies.
One day, Dahmer asked for a fish tank to be delivered to his apartment. “At that time in the 1980s, no one was really delivering things like that, so I told him we don’t do that,” said Banach. “I had a young Asian gentleman who worked here at the time, as a part-time employee, and Dahmer pointed to him and said he’d like him to deliver it. I think a week later he got caught.”
Banach stated that he was shocked when he saw his regular customer on the news being called the "Milwaukee Cannibal" or the "Bone Collector" as well. How could a man so gentle, quiet, and kept to himself create such a monstrosity in a small, humble apartment? And even worse: Banach saw the aquarium he sold to Dahmer in the newspapers. “It was what was in that aquarium that still freaks me out,” said Banach. “I saw a couple of big piranhas and two skulls. But they weren’t the kind of skulls I sell in my store as aquarium accessories. I could tell they were real human skulls.”

What Neighbors Had to Say About Jeffrey Dahmer:
“He never looked you in the eye. He always looked down.” - Henry Barnett
“When I saw him, he always acted like a normal person … I used to hear him over there, talking to himself, cussing to himself, talking real loud, and I knew he didn’t have anyone over there.” - Pamela Bass
“He was a little weird … kind of a square guy.” - Vernell Bass
“He was just a quiet guy who kept to himself … He was kind of dirty and he’d walk through the alleys at all hours of the night. I thought he was a little strange, but this goes beyond strange.” - Anonymous
“Just a normal white guy.” - Anita Lusk
Do you think that, at any point in his life, he had serious plans for the future?
Hi, Ishmael!
Hmm... now, that's a tricky question.
I do not think he ever harbored serious ambitions for his life; he was simply drifting, going wherever the wind blew him.
However, I recall that he wrote about some small plans that were not serious during his time in the Oxford Apartments to his mother when he was in prison (back when he was still keeping a semblance of "control" before succumbing completely to his wishes).
He seemed devoid of any real vision for the future during his high school years, and the same lack of direction characterized his brief collegiate experience. His military service offered no further clarity, and let's not even talk about Miami. He finally got his life back on "track" when he was with his grandmother; I think we all know that. He had a job, went to church, and lived with her. For two years, he managed to keep himself at bay. But by neglecting his homosexual preference, he suffocated himself. Of course, like any volcano, he erupted with all his sexual desires and burned to ashes everything he had built until then.
After the Ambassador Hotel incident, nothing was normal for him and life started to decline. Then he moved to the Oxford Apartments. I know that yes, during the Oxford Apartments he completely lost himself and bathed in blood, but in the letter sent to his mother mentioned before we can see those small plans:
The letter suggests he was thinking of moving to "Califf" as he said. But it wasn’t "serious" at all since he did not do anything to pursue and nurture his curiosity on jobs around that area and their payments. Also, he even told his probation officer, Donna Chester, that he bought a computer and was going to show up to classes. He wanted to learn how to use his PC and bought a manual too, but that doesn’t exactly count as serious plans for his life. I appreciate it if someone has Chester's annotation on this since he told her about it in a session.
Jeff did not have a big image of himself and therefore did not help himself. Donna Chester wrote that he expected others to help him when he was the only one who could do such a thing.
There were no genuine plans for a future in my opinion... he was man trying to simulate a normal human life while drowning in his own isolation. He was a spectator of his own ruins. Still, we can see that he was not completely passive and had some minor plans.
While it has been theorized by some such as John Backderf, teenage friend and author of the award-winning graphic novel My Friend Dahmer, that Jeffrey Dahmer began drinking heavily in order to suppress his burgeoning fantasies involving murder and death, the truth is far more depressing and pathetic. Dahmer explained to detectives Patrick Kennedy and Dennis Murphy that the real reason why he began abusing alcohol in high school was to alleviate his extreme shyness. As Kennedy recounts in his novel Dahmer Detective, Dahmer told him, “I was kind of a loner and pretty shy around people. My parents were not big drinkers but they kept a fully stocked bar in the home. I was lonely and started to drink. It made me feel better; I could talk to people and fit in, but I wasn’t that good at it and would usually end up drunk and alone in my house.” By the time he reached his senior year of high school, Dahmer was a full-blown alcoholic, addicted to the soothing balm of booze. His urge to drink more than likely mirrored his urge to kill, as he had neither the will nor the emotional strength to fight it, and once he gave into it, he succumbed completely.
