Samuel Ross: A-Cold-Wall*
Samuel Ross is a London born, multidisciplinary creative director, designer & film maker. He’s worked with a wide range of creatives & musicians such as Nick Knight, Kanye West & Theophilus London, as well as holding Virgil Abloh as a mentor. He’s also worked with many coveted brands such as Stussy, Off White & Adidas. From Paris Fashion Week presentations to poster design to visuals and lighting, Samuel has a hand in all creative aspects of presentation & direction.
As well as working with others on their creative projects he has his own solo ventures, one of which is the clothing brand A-Cold-Wall*. Samuel has used ACW* as a social commentary on British culture and the continuous divide between the lower class, youth, and the upper classes of society.
Most recently the label released its SS16 lookbook with Samuel behind the creative direction. The pieces contrast with each other through the use of fabrics between the upper and lower, whilst also harmonising with references to athletics and streetwear - such as simple efficient branding similar to that of Nike. The collection features high rising trousers with loose & comfortable fits and Samuel has also implemented his love for uniform & dress code into the brand through very militarised styling and aesthetics.
More direct social commentary is the bold ‘NO WATER’ writing printed over Josef Albers Nesting Tables. The label is also very complimentary to that of Kanye West & Adidas Originals Yeezy collections sharing similar colour pallets, pieces & cuts. This is telling of the two working together collaboratively and sharing similar direction in clothing design, clearly influencing one another.
Additionally Samuel is an illustrator via his site Known As Bitmap. Through his illustrations he further comments on society and will also place his work out in the streets for people to see.
