The only problem I have is Amoruso's idea of feminism. It's a reoccuring issue nowadays to have powerful, awesome women who emobody the ideals of feminism but separate themselves from the word itself. Feminism isn't about man hating and I just don't understand why some women are so scared to associate themselves with the movement. I really enjoyed it. It always makes me feel good when I see other people having had the same childhood or familial experiences as I had growing up. It might be a cultural thing. Although the character Lala is Mexican and I'm a mix of Puerto Rican and Dominican we still have a shitload of similarities. This was a thumbs up for me. Next on my to be read pile is Nnedi Okorafor's Binti. I'm super excited about this sci-fi book. I really loved Akata Witch so I have high hopes for this quick read. I chose @uintabrewing 's Tangerine Hop Nosh IPA to pair with this book. Fruit IPAs are currently my thing and Uinta's is super tasty. 🍺

It has made me think a bit more deeply about words and their meanings and what goes into making a dictionary. The underlying love story is great too! Definitely an interesting read.

The book is basically the transcribed version of the film but includes a forward by the director, Raoul Peck. This book was a great companion. I read it first then watched the film.
