Characters: Andrew Martson and Isaac Rhoades
Summary: Andrew has been overworking himself at the University and at his manuscript and he is absolutely overworked and Isaac notices and has enough of seeing him work himself to the ground and does something about it.
Andrew steps into the quiet, neatly furnished house. His tie loosened around his neck, shirt wrinkled with hours of manuscripts and grading papers, his jacket slung over one shoulder and the top two buttons of his shirt unbuttoned and his hair slightly messy and his glasses sat skewed on the bridge of his nose. His eyes dark, laced with exhaustion and his eye bags visible from a meter away. His body is stiff and tenser than usual, that of a man who overworked to his limit and not wanting to show it. He took off his shoes and put them on the shoe rack and took off his jacket and hung it in the coat rack and sat his briefcase down on the console table drawer. He exhaled from his nose and walked into the living room thinking he was alone. He froze in his tracks when he saw the devil in a mahogany T-shirt, grey sweatpants, an expensive Rolex watch and with his fairish/tan skin and brown hair and piercing brown eyes, watching like a hawk from the experience that comes with being a private detective. The devil was none other than his best friend, although he would say friend in public Isaac Rhoades. His eyes narrowed in annoyance. “Hello, how did you get in here and why are you here Rhoades?” He asked, voice clipped. Isaac just chuckles and brings his hand up and a shiny object dangles from his pointer finger. “The spare keys to your house Andrew, you've been my friend since college. I'm here because I have to discuss something interesting I noticed.” Andrew sat down on the settee and gestured to Isaac to start talking. “So..are you doing okay Andrew and answer me honestly.” “I'm doing okay Isaac, don't worry about me.” At that Isaac's eyes narrowed and stood up and went in front of Andrew and put his hand on his shoulder. “Andrew. Don't lie to me. I know you and you are overworking yourself to the ground and I will make sure you take care of yourself because I have had enough of your bullshit and you will listen to me. No arguments.” Andrew sighed and nodded his head in resignation as there was no winning with him.
Andrew stood up and Isaac and him made their way to Andrew's bedroom.
Isaac made Andrew lie on the bed as he adjusted the pillows and blankets. He left the room and came back with a white t-shirt, grey boxers, a tray of warm raspberry tea, aspirin, paneer tikka masala with rice, washcloths and a pack of gas station Welch's yogurt covered strawberries and blueberries. He set the tray down on the bedside table and tossed the clothes at Andrew.
“Change into something comfortable, the work attire is making my eyes sore.”
He said half exasperated and amused.
Andrew came out of the ensuite and changed into some casual loungewear.
“Finally something other than a stick up your arse..” Isaac said playfully and earned an eye roll from Andrew. “Yeah, yeah I get it, my suffering is your entertainment.” Andrew retorted, sounding pissed but his eyes showed otherwise. Isaac then guided him to a comfy chair he had in the corner and made him sit down, he grabbed a wet washcloth and put it on the back of Andrew's neck, and took two more and placed it on his shoulders. He then put his hands on Andrew's forehead and started gently but firmly massaging his pressure points. Andrew grunted and winced. “What are you doing..?” Andrew asked, in between grunts and his voice was rough, strained. “Helping you and intervening before your body collapses from being an idiot.” Isaac murmured and moved his hands to the base of his neck, by the collarbone and kneaded, targeting stiffer points Andrew hadn't even realized were stiff, as time went by, he moved onto his shoulders, back of his neck, and his entire back. “You got to stop tiring yourself out, your body is practically screaming for release and relaxation. That's not what I expected from you specifically..you got to take care of yourself genius..” his voice filled with worry and concern underneath that steel, cold voice. He got up and brought the food, snacks, aspirin and the tea, which is still hot along with the food so he must've made the food and steeped the tea before he came home.
“Here take the aspirin and tea, be careful and eat the damn paneer tikka masala and rice that I almost burned your kitchen down making.” Andrew grumbled a thanks and started eating the curry and rice, the flavours soothing and comforting. After he finished it, he took a sip of the tea, the tartness and sweetness being a perfect balance and he popped the pill and swallowed it as the tea acted like a chaser.
Andrew was munching on the Welch's and he was almost falling asleep as Isaac was on his laptop typing away at something.
Soon, his eyes felt heavy and he closed them and dozed off. Maybe the work can wait and all he needed was a bit of a push and some TLC from his friend.
