Post TLG Shane and Ilya have a huge fight, and Shane goes to the guest bedroom to sleep. He’s lying in bed, wide awake, when the door flies open and Ilya walks in. He silently climbs into bed, back to Shane. Shane turns to look at Ilya’s back but doesn’t say anything. He just gets out of bed with a huff and goes back to their room. If Ilya wants the guest bedroom, he can have it. Shane climbs into their bed and starts to situate himself when Ilya comes into the bedroom and gets into bed. Shane rolls his eyes, hops out of bed and goes to the couch. He’s pulling the blanket around himself when Ilya enters the room and sits on the other end of the couch. He grabs a blanket and puts it on himself.

“What is your problem?” Shane asks. “I gave up our bedroom and the guest room and now you’re here.”

“We sleep in same place no matter what.” Ilya says as he swings his legs into the couch. “So stay or I follow you around home.” His feet touch Shane’s but Shane pulls his legs away from Ilya.

“Fine, goodnight.” Shane curls up on the couch to sleep. He isn’t sure how much time has passed but he can tell Ilya is asleep by his breathing. Shane sits up and just stares at Ilya for a while before carefully getting off the couch. He goes over to Ilya and picks him up, carrying him to the bedroom. “Wha?”

“You can’t sleep on the couch. It’s not good for your back.” Shane explains as he lays Ilya on the bed.

“Do not go to couch.”

“I’m not.” Shane climbs into bed beside Ilya. He presses a kiss to Ilya’s temple. “Goodnight. Love you.”

“If I say sorry, do I get proper kiss and proper I love you.”

Shane kisses Ilya on the lips. “Ya tebya lyublyu.”

We don’t talk about this enough. With all the big romantic gestures in The Long Game, this, to me, is one of the most romantic moments.

We know Ilya isn’t a fan of Shane’s restrictive diet. He teases him about it, but Ilya is an expert ragebaiter who knows how to tease the people he cares about when they feel safe and in ways that never really hurt.

Shane is “frantic” in this scene. Ilya has the perfect opening to say something about his diet, and he doesn’t take it. He sees that Shane is panicking, steps in and fixes it. He was looking at that menu thinking about Shane and Shane’s fuckass diet that Ilya doesn’t even like. But he knows this is important to Shane. He knows Shane is already nervous about being on a date with Ilya in public and being with another queer couple. So he meets Shane’s needs without Shane ever having to ask, and he does it quietly, without drawing any attention, so that Shane can save face.

Of course he’s gonna tease him about it a little bit later because that’s what they do. But he only does that AFTER Shane’s had a chance to catch his breath and feel safe again.

To be loved is to be known indeed.

ilya feels like he missed the last step on a flight of stairs every time shane mentions our

first time this happens: shane's on ilya's couch in boston, chewing on one of his hoodie strings with a frown on his face "our wifi's down" - he says this so casually like it didnt just make ilya's whole world stop!?

then there's this one time at shane's parents house, david had cooked a delicious meal and they were supposed to bring the dessert so after dinner shane goes "ah, we left it in our car, just a sec" - ilya stares after him, stomach full of butterflies

after a phone call with hayden about one of the kid's birthdays he tells ilya absend mindedly "hayd says hi. oh, and amber really liked our present" - ilya crawls over to him, hiding from feeling so much over the joint custody of a toy fire truck under shane's shirt

when they both play for the centaurs and someone asks them to stay longer at the bar after a big win and shane answers "sorry, we need to get home to our dog" - ilya should get a medal for not tackling him to the ground then and there
