Beautiful book I found at a local cafe. It describes why and how the peace symbol was created, and where it was first used. It was in the 1950s, and the symbol quickly spread worldwide. Very appropriate for current times. Here's praying that the world will adapt this symbol again and cease fire on all sides. Happy All Saints Day (November 1) and All Souls Day (November 2), as celebrated here in the Philippines. I know I have a book on saints, but just can't find it on my (messy) shelf. #Currentlyreading "The fate of Ten" by Pittacus Lore, pseudonym of James Frey. This series is about a group of aliens sent here to live another race that destroys all other planets with sentient life forms. "The Fate of Ten" is the 6th in the series. I don't have the first book here, #iamnumberfour, because the one I got has the movie tie-in cover. It's Monday, and we're under high storm signals here in the Philippines. I hope everyone's already home safe and snug, sleeping or still reading. Here's hoping we won't have floods, like the one shown on the Fellowship of the Ring cover version. This set of Del Rey paperbacks were released before the movies came out. Dragons of many colors

Thoughts on the Dragon Lance Chronicles, Collector’s Edition.

Dragon Lance was one of the earlier fantasy series I’ve read, and I fell in love with it for several reasons. 

The story focuses on nine main characters, seven friends who swore to meet again after their different adventures and two others that they met on the night that their adventure started. For this reason, I believe the books are compared with the Fellowship of the Ring and the rest of LOTR. However, I wouldn’t personally put them in the same league, as they are written so differently (I loved LOTR, too, but that’s for another post :D ). In any case, Dragon Lance starts with less of an introduction than LOTR, and with more action and insights into the different characters. The crowd favorite is Raistlin, but I am more drawn to Laurana and Silvara, the elf maidens in the stories. They were given enough room to “grow up” as the stories progressed.

The world of Krynn captured my interest and spurred on my imagination to different, fantastical landscapes. The story starts in a forest with HUGE tree houses, and as a teen (or even now), I wonder what it would be like to live in a community like that. Afterwards, we explored mountains, different elven kingdoms, deep mines, towers of sorcery, and even the bottom of a whirlpool where sea nymphs lived. I’ve read a lot of fantasy books, and I don’t remember reading as many landscapes and cultures in only a trilogy.

Finally, what does this series have that I haven’t seen elsewhere? DRAGONS! Intelligent and magical dragons of many colors and characteristics. One of my favorite parts in the series is the aerial battle between the metallic and chromatic dragons, and I remember thinking that it would be amazing to see that in a movie, but that it would be difficult to pull off. I wonder what Jackson’s team can do with it...

All these make Dragon Lance one of my favorite series, stories that I can go back to again and again. I bought the CE as soon as I saw it, as it had all the original line art PLUS annotations/comments from the authors. It’s interesting to know what they were thinking when they created Krynn and the characters. With metallic cover art on black and gilt-edge pages, this CE is definitely one of my most beautiful books.
