““Just a moment,” he said. “I need a small reminder that you are here, you are whole, and you are mine.” “Well, the first two should be patently obvious, and the last one is always in question,” replied his lady unhelpfully.”
— Lord Conall Maccon and Lady Alexia Maccon Changeless by Gail Carriger
show me a more perfect cast.
Let us not dwell on the past
My nontoxic trait is getting visbly excited after I see someone reading a book I like- as if I've written the damn thing myself
Kieran: If you bite it and you die, it’s poisonous. If it bites you and you die, it’s venomous.
Poppy: What if it bites me and it dies!?
Vonetta: Then you’re poisonous. Gods, Poppy, learn to listen.
Poppy: What if it bites itself and I die?
Naill: That’s voodoo.
Poppy: What if it bites me and someone else dies?
Delano: That’s correlation, not causation.
Poppy: What if we bite each other, and neither of us die?
Casteel: That’s kinky.
Kieran: Oh my gods.
You are truly endearing when you sleep. I attribute this to the exotic nature of seeing you in a state of silence.
Tybalt, A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire
The Spider Stone
Annja: You're lying.
Garin: I'm lying? That's the best you can come up with after I tell you a plague is waiting to be released? Why would I lie?
Annja: To get my attention.
Garin: I already have your attention. Despite my slight indiscretion -
Annja: Trying to kill me isn't a slight indiscretion.
Garin: A momentary lapse in judgment.
The Spider Stone
Annja: Seriously, though, we need to talk about why you're here. You've got fifteen seconds.
Garin: A challenge then.
Annja: Thirteen.
Garin: I think that if you're not careful when you enter Anansi's treasure vault, you're going to unleash a plague that could destroy most of western and northern Africa.
Annja stared at him.
Garin: How am I doing so far?
The Spider Stone
Annja: This isn't a date.
Garin: Maybe I'll just have a coffee.
Annja: Eat something.
Garin: Why? Are you worried that I'm going to starve?
Annja: I'm hoping you'll choke.
The Spider Stone
McIntosh: What you did back there, most archaeologists don't do that, do they?
Annja: Not unless they have to take care of someone who's been hurt. Most of us have taken first aid.
McIntosh: How many times have you done this?
Annja: Counting this time?
McIntosh nods.
Annja: Once.
The Friday Society
“That’s all well and good, but where have you been, damn it?”
“It’s a very long story.”
Which clearly wasn’t a good enough excuse for him.
And so...she told him everything.
That she could think to make up in the moment.
And then there was an explosion. It was loud. It was bright. It was very explosion-y.
Cora Bell, The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress
How to recover an unsaved draft on Microsoft Word
This literally saved my ass a few minutes ago. Yes, you can recover those files that you accidentally closed and thought you couldnt get back.
Right after that happens, open Microsoft Word again and click File - Info - Manage Versions - Recover Unsaved Documents.
It is literally that simple.
Reblog - save a life
And yet, in certain ways, the Institute did remind them of other schools: Rote memorization of lessons was discouraged but required; class participation was encouraged but rarely permitted; and although quizzes were given every day, in every class, there was always at least one student who groaned, another who acted surprised, and yet another who begged the teacher, in vain, not to give it
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
Grimspace
Jax: Whenever I follow you, we wind up in trouble.
March: How is that different from what happens when you lead?
Grimspace
“I’m dying for a shower. Doc, you wanna grease March up?”
“Yep,” March mutters. “That’s shooting right to the top of the list of questions I never want to hear again.”
