What do you think the reason is for Tanamai making Kuzunoha not Seimei’s biological mother? Seems like it creates a lot of questions when she could have just as easily had her be his real mother. Thanks as always!
its a surprisingly elegant solution to a problem you may not have been considering, but me and some other fans and almost certainly tanamai was worried about (bc she would not have come to this solution otherwise): having seimei (and/or haruaki) be inherently "not human" would undermine the entire message of yohaji
on one hand, kuzunoha being seimeis mom is Really Cool And Fun and cool mythology tie in so everyone including tanamai wants it
on the other hand, a pretty important part of yohaji is that its about "despite everything, finding connection with people who are not inherently like you" so for seimei/haruaki to be half youkai would sound like "oh of course he couldnt get along with humans because he wasn't totally one to begin with" which sounds awfully disparaging, like "if you can't get along with the people you're inherently like, sucks to suck? or you have to find out you're secretly some other thing"
and also for like individual characters, an example is douman, who spent his whole life trying to catch up to and surpass seimei, it would have been a little lame for it to be like "oh of course he could never have done it because seimei was half kitsune and douman's just totally human"
so like ya that was a huge dangerous bullet that came with revealing seimeis backstory and tanamai deftly dodged it
