Goths aren't "true to seed" in the sense that the biological offspring of two goths do not necessarily grow up to be goth, though inheriting the inclination for it from both parents increases the odds significantly. That is not how goths naturally reproduce.
The process is actually quite sophisticated, and requires the presence of a full-grown goth to trigger it. A pupal-stage proto-goth, at this point completely indistinguishable from any other small human child, only needs to encounter a mature specimen once - and while the initial imprinting that ensues will only take seconds, the incubation period often takes more than a decade, even several.
The first visible step of the transformation is triggered when the dormant goth suddenly gains awareness that they have free will and can do whatever they want with their appearance. While the progress may be gradual, or seem like the transformation happened all at once overnight, the initial seed was planted years ago. And now, in full bloom, a fully-fledged mature adult goth may finally be happy.
And that's why it's important to sometimes look goth as fuck in the grocery store. You might be seen by small child who had previously hoped to die before adulthood because everything they've heard about becoming a grownup is just pure misery, who will then consequently think to themselves "actually nevermind, that's what I want to be when I grow up."
One of the many benefits of being weird in public is possibly saving -- and definitely improving -- a stranger's life without ever knowing.
I once had a cashier at a retail place say to me, “I wish I could wear a dress like that.”

I’m pretty sure that was the first time she’d ever realized that she was an adult, with a job, who could make her own decisions about herself.
A few weeks later, at the same store, I overheard one of the employees telling one of the other cashiers that he still didn’t know what happened with her, but she showed up to a shift dressed completely different, had changed her hair and makeup, and just said, “I hate this job, I quit,” and walked out.
It wasn’t even that good a dress, it was just bright red. But sometimes you have to be the nudge that triggers someone else’s metamorphosis.

14. Describe your first crush
So the funny thing about not realizing i was a lesbian until we were already engaged is that its Really difficult for me to tell what crushes I had vs very emotionally intense friendships. However. My long distance friend that I was barely able to see except for (maybe) once a year. Was probably my first puppy crush. Where she made me a playdo teaset as a present that my dog ate and I was so upset I cried for like 3 hours. When we reunited at one point for a new years party (thankfully before. Anyone else had arrived.) I got so excited to see her that I projectile vomited. That was. Probably my most mortifying moment like. Ever. And somehow she was still happy to be friends with me.
She was very loud and intense and brash and apparently went to school for fashion? I hope shes doing well. I haven't seen her in like? 13 years at this point?

Aaaaa hm. My gut says passenger pigeons. Or dodos. On account of I Love Pigeons. And I think its tremendously sad how we've failed them repeatedly, but our world is in a place where we could still sustain them.

So it didn't have to be something "Huge" And I guess the issue here is you do not often think to be proud of yourself for things or consider the things you do to be accomplishments in any capacity even when other ppl around you(like me) might think they're REALLY COOL or at least very much something worth being proud of SO!!! Truly I have never met anyone in my life with the freakishly terrifyingly high levels of pain tolerance that you have- like post surgery when you were brushing off shit that had had me whimpering in a fetal position unable to do literally anything just a year prior and it was The Most Pain I'd Ever Been In In My Entire Life and we learned that that was like... something that had been fairly routine for you for over FIFTEEN YEARS until the surgery fixed shit, and you'd just gotten used to pushing through it and dealing. That's scary. Nobody should have to do that. That's impressive too, sure, but holy fuck, nobody should have to be in that level of pain with that frequency.

I see this reaction a lot, and I gotta say, it always makes me a little sad. Whenever the conversation of exploitation of labor comes up, inevitably someone finds themselves struggling with the guilt of “It is so important to me not to contribute to exploitation but I cannot do this thing myself and need someone else to do it for me, so how do I even approach that?”
Exploitation isn’t in the hiring of a service worker. Exploitation is in the respect you show them for their ability to perform the service you need from them.
I have been on a cleaning service staff before, and also been someone who hired a cleaning service, and I can tell you for sure that a lot of cleaning crews (especially worker owned ones) absolutely LOVE their clients and are genuinely happy to be able to make their lives better. The clients they don’t like? Those are the ones who disrespect the workers.
When I was involved with a cleaning service, we had everything from little old ladies living alone to McMasions with five cars as clients, and I can assure you that whenever there was someone who clearly hired us because they were overwhelmed or unable to keep their space clean, those were the households where you put a little more elbow grease in and did a deep clean even when it wasn’t paid for, because you could see how much these people were trying and struggling, and they were always so kind and generous and often embarrassed when talking to you about the job.
I only hired a service a couple if times in my life, but whenever I did, I worked with the same people as often as I could, tipped as well as I could afford, and tried to be the kind of client I would want to have, and that’s how I often ended up with my baseboards cleaned too, or my fridge scrubbed and organized or a restorative clean done in a high use room even when that wasn’t what I had scheduled or paid for.
I’ve heard the same thing from all manner of service workers over the years. Many of us like our jobs! We enjoy the work. It’s the customers that can do a number on you.
I think a lot of people are afraid that by needing a service they are inherently exploiting or harming the people who perform that service, and they really aren’t. But it does benefit a capitalist system for us to all be burnt out and overwhelmed because we’re too afraid to hire the help we need. Be upfront and honest with service workers about what you need and why you need it, and treat them with dognity and kindness while they perform your service, and I promise you they will always be happy to answer your call.
HIRING A PROFESSIONAL TO CLEAN YOUR HOUSE ISN’T MORE EXPLOITATIVE THAN GOING TO A DENTIST OR ORDERING A PIZZA
