BQ’s low-cost and minimal-setup steps for recording podfic with an iPhone and laptop (both apple devices).

Recording: I have a Mini Mic Pro set ($25 on Amazon), which includes a wireless microphone that I clip to my shirt and a receiver that plugs into the charging port on my phone. I use the iOS native Voice Memos app to record the original audio files on my phone. I record in a closet for minimal ambient noise.

Editing: I transfer the audio file(s) from my phone to my laptop. If I have multiple files that need to be combined into one, I use QuickTime Player. I re-record and trim as I record, using the Voice Memos app, so I’m not usually doing any significant sound editing afterwards. When needed I use Audacity to make edits/adjustments. After I’ve finished combining/editing my file(s) then I use a free online site to convert my file format from m4a (Apple) to mp3 (works on pretty much any platform).

Posting/streaming: I use the Audiofic Archive for both a permanent download link and a link for streaming I can embed in my AO3 post.
