sirens … that’s all she can hear , sounding in her head && growing louder && LOUDER ; deafening && she simply stands there , stares at him as though he’s a ghost from her past that refuses to let her be — had she not TRIED ? shed all she once was for him … for a taste of redemption that she always felt so far from her grasp ? a pause && gaze drops , honeyed hues upon her feet , a churning in her stomach ; the disgust in herself rising up her throat , burning until she can scarcely breathe .she wants to leave … needs to leave … N O W .
❝ maybe that’s your fault for believing someone like me can change . ❞ she tries to play it off , chin raising in defiance && she stares him down , dares him to challenge her . yet … the words sink in , rush over the husk of her heart && it a c h e s something chronic until it is all she can feel , all she can is the breaking of what remained beneath her rib cage . ❝ once a monster always a monster , right ? ❞ temper flares once words tumble from her tongue ; anger she hadn’t felt in what could only feel like years , but it dissipates so quickly , leaving her worn , leaving her tired && so she flees , turns tail to get out && away from him . it’s only when she is alone does she allow herself to break , the carefully crafted walls torn down && she is laid bare behind closed doors .
