In 2020, a record-breaking 1,006 openly LGBTQ candidates ran for office and more than 570 will appear on the ballot on November 3 – the most ever. Victory Fund also endorsed more LGBTQ candidates in 2020 than at any time in its 29-year history. The Pride St. Charles Board of Directors has been monitoring the current COVID-19 Pandemic very closely. After much consideration, the 2020 Pride St. Charles festival has been cancelled.
There are 843 known* openly LGBTQ elected officials in the United States – a 21 percent increase in the past year – according to LGBTQ Victory Institute’s Out for America 2020 digital report, which was released today. The increase is attributable to the growing number of LGBTQ people running for office, an increase in those willing to run openly, and incumbent elected officials who are coming out while in office. The report comes during an unprecedented election year for the LGBTQ community, with more than 880 openly LGBTQ people running for office in 2020 – the most ever.

The Pride St. Charles 2020 Festival has officially been rescheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2020 at The Family Arena in St. Charles, MO. from 12 p.m. - 9 p.m.. In light of the circumstances we will also be forgoing the parade this year, in order to focus solely on making this year’s festival one for the memory books. In light of the COVID-19 crisis, and after extensive discussions with our leadership team and the Executive Committee of our Board of Trustees, the STAGES St. Louis organization will be adapting the schedule of its upcoming 2020 Season.
Drag Performers from all over St. Louis and the region; including Miss Gay America 2020, Pattaya Hart, submitted performances dedicated to St. Louis First Responders. Donations and tips were collected during the live feed on Hamburger Mary’s Facebook Page via CashApp and Venmo. All funds collected were used to purchase gift cards to local restaurants to give to our local first responders.
Each of us is trying to find a way to deal with COVID-19. We could go on a rant about all the mistakes made by and lack of action from our amateur president, but I’ve already done that so much that I’m almost orange in the face — pun intended.
