Society at large only approves of mental illness when it renders the mentally ill invisible. Neurotypicals want to hear only about those who want to take up less and less space, who make themselves smaller, and who never speak up. They tell us suicide is valid only when you want to disappear. They say self harm is only real when you are ashamed. They tell us that if you do it for attention, you are fake, you are dangerous, you are not to be trusted. They shy away from people who display their symptoms outwardly because they want us to suffer in silence. They certainly don’t want us to love ourselves. They want to say ‘I’m sorry you feel sad’, feel good about themselves for caring, and move on. They tell us wanting attention is bad because they want us to shut up and stop affecting them, so they can move on with their lives. It is easy to say you care if you only show interest in those who don’t bother you.

You know what isn’t harmful to autistic people? Allowing people to openly explore the opportunity that they might be autistic and letting them use terminology and self-care tools/coping skills made for autistic people to better understand and support themselves. You know what is harmful to autistic people? Gate keeping the autistic communities and thereby withholding understanding, validation, support and coping methods from undiagnosed autistic people.

for non-systems who have trouble wrapping their heads around how to communicate with systems online:

envision the person you’re chatting with is living in a full house of people with only one computer and everyone is too lazy to get their own account and too impatient to wait their turn so they kick each other off the computer to talk and play around and do whatever

and sometimes they forget to introduce each other to you or give you a heads up that the person they kicked off is no longer there but will be back at some point, probably

and sometimes two people are on the computer at the same time, and sometimes someone is watching behind the person using the computer and so they make comments sometimes

basically, just talk to and treat to system members as they come

i truly hate the “general education” mental illness discourse on here where we wish people “recovery” willy nilly as if recovery is attainable for every illness, it isn’t, for many people the reality is a goal of maintaining safety and functioning at their top ability whatever that may be, we cannot hold mentally ill people to a standard of recovery of societal normalcy. thats not to say that mentally ill people ought to to strive to get “better” it simply means that symptom management is The Goal for many people, not recovery, and that needs to be recognized and given a space. End Rant.

please remember that you are valid. all of you. big systems, HUGE systems, tiny systems, multiple and median systems. However you formed, however you came to be. No matter what. Blending or not, amnesia or sharing every memory. 

You’re all perfectly valid and good and we need you to know this.
