i was born broken // Â thatâs three bad nights in a row
Clint dragged himself to his feetâthe movement was his last act of complacency. The man Clint was had pushed himself off the ground and onto his feet; the man Clint hoped to be took a tentative step toward Jess.Â
"Because youâre here. You had every right to get to packinâ and leave me in the dust, but you came."
She was completely oblivious to the change in Clint that she was about to see. In her mind, she kept repeating the same things she'd been telling herself for months about how he hurt her, more than she should have allowed, but on the flip side, she'd hurt him. Neither of them was innocent. She was still thinking that they probably weren't good for each other, but she kept showing up when he called.
"Don't make me say something cliche and dumb, Clint. You've got me here. Don't make me question that."
borntotakethis liked your postÂ
"HeyâI, uhâŚ" He pauses, wanting to consider every word he was going to say. Clint wanted to take his timeâwork through the muck to find the brightness underneath. "Thanks for coming."
It was a decent enough start.Â
Jess offered a tense smile as she waved to him, closing the door behind her. She could hear the strain in his voice, and frankly, she wasn't entirely sure how this conversation would go, but she was there and willing to find out. It was something.
"Not sure why you're thanking me."
Ha-hehâŚÂ ye-eah thatâs probably for the best.Â
So are you bummed about not havinâ a movie yet?
Pretty sure no one would pay money to see the autobiography of my life. So no? Not really?
âThatâs⌠good joke, Jess. Is this mask right?â Or is it just her? Really good. âBut⌠heh. Not⌠not that funny. Is that why youâre not laughing? Because you got me. You got me, Jess. Ha. HaâŚ?â
"I'm not laughing because it's not funny. There never was anything funny about it." Jess sighed and looked back up to meet the eyes of Mattie's mask. "Seeing you here makes me want take a card from Carol and hug you without warning, but it also reminds me of what it felt like when we lost you, so honestly, I'm not sure what to do or say, but I know I'm doing this wrong."
godofthegods:
"Fun? Ayeâ_this _is a battle that I must take part in!â Thor roared with renewed vigor, grabbing the two closest men and slamming their heads together. A pool stick broke across the shoulder blades of the god, causing him to turn and plant a booted foot in the attackerâs chest. He fell into a state of revelryâhe was home in a drunken brawl, and he would not let that feeling of nostalgia escape.Â
Bar fights really only became interesting after sheâd had a few beers, typically, but catching sight of Thor melting into the scene with such vigor, seeing him suddenly so in his element, Jess almost wanted to grab a seat ringside and just watch. That desire quickly faded when a burly man tumbled into her and her hands came up with venom blast at the ready. Not a moment later, she was in the fold herself.
I love you; It scares me

Or youâre a clone. Or one of those weird aliensâ but probably not. Your costume looks too good to be an impostor. And, yes, I really want to know! Did I lose all my powers and become Madame Web? I mean, what?
"Let's not even talk about those weird aliens, and just trust me when I say I'm not one of them. Or a clone, for that matter. And honestly, I wish you'd lost your powers and became Madame Web, that'd be so much cooler." Jessica sighed and looked down at her feet, ripping the bandaid off as she finally spit it out. "You died, Mattie."

"Nay, Jessica Drewâyouâve a presence about you that suggests impressiveness. One shant deny you of that.â He ducked under the oaken doorframe, placing a massive hand upon the table that met him. Curses and yelling greeted the two, and the scene before them was something out of a John Wayne film. A bar fight had broken out just before the two arrived, and Thor and Jessica had stepped into the middle of it.Â
The conversation stopped short as the two of them took in the scene laid out around them. She was immediately forced to duck as a Heineken bottle flew in her direction, splashing her with warm beer as it shattered against the door directly behind where her head had been. Jess shot the Avenger beside her a sideways glance as she stood, an amused smirk pulling at the corner of her mouth. "I hope you were looking for some fun."
mattie-franklin:
Does this make me⌠in the future? Or are you in the past? And⌠What, uh⌠was I on vacation, or college⌠what, uh, what was goinâ on there?
I kind of really hate time travel in theory alone, so I don't even want to guess, but we'll probably have to figure that one out eventually since one of us is going to have to get back to wherever. And do you really want to know?
regeneratingdegenerate:
That was Land with a capital Lâ never mind, itâs nothinâ. I heard Stark moved to San Francisco or something so I figured all of you Avengers got a share of⌠his⌠land? The old tower, I guess. Somethinâ about land.
Why would Tony...? It's New York. Literally no one owns land. Most don't even get to see any on a day-to-day basis. Yeah, I'm not even going to pretend to know what you're talking about, so let's move on.
godofthegods:
"They fear your wrathâone would do well to avoid angering a drunken Avenger." He nodded in response to her point. The pub attempted to resemble the ones that were used in colonial timesâthe sight of it brought a chuckle to the godâs lips. "Ah! A fair place to make merry."
"I don't know about that one, big guy. I'm not sure that without my mask on anyone really recognizes me as an Avenger. Hell, I question it even with the mask. Really, it may just be the glares I give them. They're pretty impressive." Jess grinned at his response as she pulled open the heavy wooden door, holding it open for him. "I'm glad you like it."
mattie-franklin:
Right. Right. Â Â Â So, uh, whatâs with the Spider-woman garb?Â
I'm not gonna to get around this one, am I? Look, Mattie, I don't really know what's going on here, but I took the mantle over again a while ago. You were... gone.
I donât like asking for help, because I donât like admitting I need it.

regeneratingdegenerate:
Hell, itâs too late now! Iâm gonna tell everyone that Iâm an Avenger, an Avenger endorsed by Spider-Woman herself. Itâs done, thisâll be your legacy. You have my condolences about Land, by the way.
That's better than some legacies I could hold. Not as great as others. You don't hear me complaining. It's not like people don't already think my suit is a cheap knock-off of yours and Spi-- wait, what's this about land?
godofthegods:
"I do not care for the âtwenty-somethingsââthey turn drinking into a feat of strength and believe they can best me. Mortals forget that I was filling my belly with mead while they were just filling their motherâs belly.â The stares that greeted the two were not something that Thor was unaccustomed to. Midgardians had a curiosity about them that was never truly satedâit accompanied them everywhere they went.Â
"That makes two of us. They've never challenged me to a drink-off, but that really doesn't make me any more fond of them. Just fond in passing." The two were in sight of the wooden sign that marked the entrance to the pub. Jessica brought his attention to it with a point of her finger and a nod, trying not to derail the conversation at the same time.
