Friday, April 10th, is the National Day of Silence in the US.
Students take a vow of silence to recognize abd protest the silence of the bullying of LGBTQIA+ students in school, and how their complaints often go unheard or ignored by parents, teachers, adminstrators, and countless others.
It was created in 1996, and is taking place on April 10th of this year.
Many choose to wear tape over their mouths, or X's on their hands, or merely to wear black (optional).
You can use cards or notes to explain your silence if necessary.
Q: Is this recognized outside the US, too?
A: Yes! It is recognized in other countries. However, it originated in the US
2. Q: Is it on the same day every year?
A: No, but it generally falls on the second Friday of April
3. Q: Can people from other countries (not the US) do this as well?
A: Yes, of course! We (the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies) would love for you to do this.
REMINDER: this is completely optional! if you participate, wonderful. if not, that's okay too. it's 100% your choice how far you want to go, if at all :)
