@trackgirl: twitter bot make friends
Greg Marra, a Googler, coded a "socialbot" for twitter - @trackgirl - now suspended. It used a series of specific behaviors to (very successfully) infiltrate runners social networking - until a reposted tweet about an injured ankle drew an outpouring of support. For a script. The source code is here. The approach, from Wired:
“Social bot attacks are actually about building a trust relationship, so they’re very slow attacks. Your goal is not on the first day that you launch your bot army to do anything - your goal is over months to build up history, build up credibility and build up an audience. And then, when you want, you can take your infrastructure that you’ve built and apply your infrastructure to a presidential campaign.”
Twitter to Apple's Tim Cook: "Thank you for saving us from frivolous lawsuits filed by folks who've been horrifically injured after their legs have fallen asleep while toilet tweeting"
if it wasn't for the shitty battery in the iphone i'd probably sit on the toilet so long my legs would fall asleep permanently.

Boundary behavior
Boundary Behavior
The dynamic renegotiation of provocative human connections in the face of accelerating, digitally-fueled social, cultural, personal and economic dissonance; at the core AND fringes of cultural transformation, where the new stories and new meanings of the connected age are built and crash-tested in real time.
We live in a digital age, in the midst of technology-fueled, accelerating transformation. Appropriating Gennep, ours is akin to a "Liminal" state - but with no ritually defined finish line, and no "elders" creating meaning for us out of our confusion and disorientation.
A standard ritual transformation has three phases
the unitiated phase,
the "liminal" phase, during which the initiate "no longer holds pre-ritual status but has not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the ritual is complete", and
initiated
but our [unritual] transformation plays host to those three strands simultaneously:
pre-technologists constantly renegotiating and reconciling old habits to the new (old --> new)
tech natives who accept and negotiate our connected terrain without question and without guidance from their "elders" (new --> now)
post-technologists, who accept the now but do so critically, with an eye toward the next (now --> next)
we are at a strange and magic time: offered the blessing and curse of renegotiating our connections, our identity and fundamental questions of meaning, value, and culture.
“Liminality is the quality of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle stage of rituals, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the ritual is complete…participants “stand at the threshold” between their previous way of structuring their identity, time, or community, and a new way, which the ritual establishes. During liminal periods, social hierarchies may be reversed or temporarily dissolved, continuity of tradition may become uncertain, and future outcomes once taken for granted may be thrown into doubt. The dissolution of order during liminality creates a fluid, malleable situation that enables new institutions and customs to become established.”

pointerpointer.com creates an [simulated but compelling] interaction layer over static photos...it responds to your hovering cursor with by serving an image whose subject points to your stationary cursor - wherever it is on the screen. A simple "get" (pointer, pointing at pointer, right? right?) that's crazy compelling (who will I see? is someone naked? can i really put the mouse anywhere?)
'human touch' + "how the heck did they do that" = magic
