10 Jobs during Quarantine
If you are like me and quit your job December 19th and was stuck during this wonderful quarantine time with no job, no income, and an itch to do something, then this is for you!
Or if you are just someone who would like work, this can be for you as well.
1) VIPKids
Calling all teachers!! Or wanna be teachers ;) this one is for you. This program is pretty neat! You get the opportunity to work one on one with students from Beijing teaching them English.
Pros: You get paid per 25 minute class you teacher and you have 100% control of your schedule. You get the opportunity to work with regular students and meet new ones. All of the lesson plans are written and handed to you so the only planning you have to do is familiarizing yourself with the curriculum.
Cons: You are working as a contractor so there are no taxes deducted from your pay. This means that come April you must pay taxes out of pocket. Your students are on Beijing time so you are working odd hours. Usually the hours are 7pm-7am (MST) with a few hours before or after. This means you are working overnight shifts, night shifts, or early early morning shifts. These hours are different depending on your time zone.
If you are interested in teaching on VIPKid here is my referral code! This code gives us a bonus once you complete your first class with VIPKid!
2) Tutoring
This one is HUGE! So many parents have now taken on a new role of being their children’s teacher. This is great but not every subject is everyones strong suit. Helping to offer tutoring services help both the parent and the child. This is a great way to work a few hours a week and make cash.
3) Transcriptionist
This is a great job that allows you to work from home or an office building depending on the company you apply to. As a transcriptionist, you listen to audio files and create a document with what was said. You type what you hear! There are all different types of transcriptionists. There are those who do medical files, legal files, and general business files. This is a great job to fill in time at home and earn some extra dollars!
4) Instant Cart
Instant Cart is an app that allows people to go grocery shopping for those who do not want to do it themselves. You get paid per person or ‘bundle’ of customers you shop or. You chose your own hours, use your car, drive to grocery stores to pick up their selection of food, and then deliver it to their house once you are done. This is a super easy job that only requires transportation and a good eye for food.
5) Door Dash
Door dash is an awesome opportunity to make some quick money and fit it into your daily schedule. Once you are officially hired, you can begin! Here is how it works: people order meals off of the Door Dash app, you get a notification that there is an order, you accept the order, then drive to pick up and deliver the food. You can receive tips off of deliveries and that honestly makes the trips worth it! The only thing you need for door dash is reliable transportation and a fire playlist.
6) Babysitting/ nannying
I have seen SO SO SO many babysitting jobs these past few weeks. There are so many parents who are working from home and have littles that cannot entertain themselves. If you want some cash in your pocket or a part time/full time gig check for your local friends babysitting needs! Nurses are still working, doctors are still working, police are still working, and so many other professions are requiring them to come in to work. Needless to say, there are plenty of families out there in search of a babysitter to entertain their littles!
7) Outschool
Here is another call to all teachers!!! If you are on your summer break or in between positions at a school, outschool is the place for you. The interview process is pretty simple. It includes a background check, an application, and some experience. Once you get approved you have the opportunity to teach what you love, when you want, and charge what you are worth. The platform is built so that you create your class, click submit, get it approved, and post it with some open times and dates. Once it is public, outschool markets the class. You can do outside marketing utilizing Facebook, instagram, Pinterest, etc.. But Outschool does a ton of the work for you! You get paid per student that signs up and Outschool takes 30% off the top. This is a great platform to invest in if you love teaching and want to make some summer money! I have added my referral code below! Once you teach and earn your first $100 we both get a $100 bonus to our paychecks,

8) Virtual Assistant
I know that this seems to be ALL the rage right now buuuut I absolutely love being a virtual assistant. It took me a long time to find a position that was from someone I trusted and was a good niche for me to work in. In the beginning of my VA days I would scour craigslist and Facebook for anything and everything available. The biggest problem I ran into was the amount of scams that over powered both platforms. I had to weed through so many ‘companies’ that would hire me but couldn’t be found anywhere else but the job posting. Some places I have turned to are mutual friends, Facebook groups (still need to be careful for scammers), Upwork, and LinkedIn. Right now I only have a few people I work as a VA for but absolutely love that I can do this job in my own free time.
9) Surveys
Now, I know this one is over used. It takes ages to make actual money and it is a lot of hit and miss surveys buuuut it is still a way to make a little cash here and there. If you are desperate or need something else to do while watching a movie, this is the one for you! There are so many companies out there that offer surveys online for a little bit of money. Even if you do not qualify for a survey, they still compensate you for the time you spent answering the qualifying questions. Usually these survey companies pay you through PayPal or gift cards to Starbucks, amazing, etc…
10) Personal Assistant
If you are not afraid of leaving your house during this time, being a personal assistant is perfect! There are so many people who are at major risk of covid-19 and are not able to get out and about to do their errands. These errands can comprise of taking mail to USPS, picking up groceries, etc.. This is kind of like babysitting where you will most likely get cash and a list of to-dos for the day.
Overall- if you lost your job, had your hours cut, or are wanting some hours doing something else, here is a list of ten different jobs that you can do during quarantine! Some of these jobs can be turned into full time incomes and others are great substitutes until your hours pick back up or you find a more permanent job!
