Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.

My favorite part is the sink.

13.8.2026: My filler article was officially published on Tuesday:) I'm now done with it and don't need to think about it anymore. Now it's just ALD and review articles left. Finalizing of the ALD article has been going really well though. I've gotten to a point where the only edits left are stuff I need to talk to my supervisor about first. Which means I can focus on the review article tomorrow, yay!

10.8.2026: Hurrah! I finished sorting out the sources for my review article. My reference excel is so organized and beautiful. Now I just need to write something about it. But it might need to wait, I have a lot of editing to do for my ALD article. I'm currently trying to research all the sentences I wrote based on things I vaguely remembered. Researching every single sentence takes forever and nothing I thought I knew was actually right, so yeah.

generally you shouldn't write run-on sentences because they get confusing and it doesn't give the reader a break. that doesn't apply to me though my run-on sentences are fun and understandable and they have a rhythm to it that makes you want to keep reading

3.8.2026: My summer break is over. I'm starting to think extended periods of free time aren't for me. I started to feel so lethargic and dull towards the end of my break and missed my normal work day routine so bad. I might have to start breaking up my summer breaks into smaller bits.

Anyway, back to work! My nightmare article was finally accepted last week. Yay! Now I just need to finish up and submit my third article. I also finally started the book part of my phd. It's supposed to be done by christmas, which is not terrifying at all🙃 I really need to get a move on with my review article too, bc I wanna use that as reference in my thesis.

One fun thing about learning new languages is reconsidering the structure of words and language in your mother tongue. It seems with each new language I study, I get more little insights into English, either in how it's similar or how it's different.

For example, a couple years ago, while learning Spanish, I encountered the word for a store, "la tienda." I thought "huh, that's a lot like tener (tiene) - the word for store in Spanish literally corresponds to 'to have/keep'. How interesting!"

Then I stopped for a moment, and for the first time in my life, thought about seriously about the meaning of English word for the place where you buy things, "a store."
