Lennie's death was most likely 22nd of August, 1937. I know this as it is stated that the day they arrived to the ranch was the 20th and friday. RIP Lennie 💀

In the playscript, Curley's wife isn't given a description. Even in the character list, all she is seen as is someone else's wife. Every other character gets a description. Steinbeck, how dare you ;(

Differences between the OMAM book and the playscript adaptation:

George says that Slim is 'like Jesus Christ.'

In the Curley's hand scene, Curley starts to go after George, so George starts saying that he'll beat Curley up. Lennie then laughs in admiration, but mostly just nerves.

George gets back to the ranch before Curley's wife goes into Crook's room, and nearly hits her before being seen by the boss.

Slim directs the men away from George, and talks to him before leaving so George can talk with and shoot Lennie.

The boss attempts to be friendly with George after asking him about Lennie, but Geogre stays formal with him as 'he's the boss first, an' a nice guy afterwards.'

Whit tells Carlson to leave Candy alone, and tries to oppose to shooting his dog.

Curley's wife has a suitcase, and tells Lennie thats she's leaving Curley, even if that means that her mother won't talk to her again.

Interesting facts from the playscript (these are probably canon as it was written by Steinbeck):

Curley's wife's father was a drunken sign painter who used to always have fights with her mother. He took Curley's wife in the middle of the night to leave his own wife, but he was then arrested, and later died in prison.

Lennie and George were in the town of Frisco for three days looking at job boards before Soledad.

Carlson used to have an airedale called Tom and Whit used to have a mutt.

Lennie is flattered at being called George's 'cousin'.

You like omam!!! ^⁠_⁠^ It's difficult finding any content, so I've had to make my own. I have studied this book and the 1992 movie so hard. What are your thoughts on Curley? You don't have to answer. That's ok too. It's just cool to find more omam fans!!

I think Curley is quite interesting as a character. He should have some level of authority on the ranch, due to his father's status as boss, but he doesn't. Curley lets his insecurity get the best of him and he's blind to common sense and manners. I also belive that this blindness caused the mistreatment towards his poor wife. He only sees her as a trophy that he can use to make up for his deep insecurities, but he's really only making himself more of a fool for the other men to laugh at.

I've read the book and watched the movie(1992 one) and took inspiration from the movie versions and others

okay haiii these are my omam headcanons that i wrote a couple months ago and completely forgot about and found them on my ipad so uhh enjoy

Of Mice and Men character headcanons:

George suffers from Misophonia

George also had BPD and takes medication for it

Curley's wife's name is Sally. idk why but she's always been a Sally to me...

Despite all his apparent charm, Slim can’t flirt for the life of him and ends up just standing like 🧍‍♂️and somehow it always works

Whitt sleepwalks regularly. Slim gets up multiple times a week every night just to drag Whitt back to bed

Lennie has full blown conversations in his sleep. very loudly.

Crooks’s favourite food is liquorice or something 😭 old man food,,,

Candy will randomly just tell the most absurd, very obviously untrue facts every with a completely straight face just to see how gullible ppl one the ranch are. “yeah did you fellas know that there's a chance if you sneeze while you’re fulla whiskey your gut will burst? ‘ts true! saw it happen to a poor guy here on this very ranch!!”

Carlson has a bunch of weirdly specific and random skills that serve no practical use in his life whatsoever. stuff like he’s really good at ventriloquism, or knows an absurd amount of dances from around the world, or he’s an expert of handwriting analysis, or he can ride a unicycle. absolutely useless but mildly impressive talents.

Curley hurts himself in his outburst as much as he hurts others. not intentionally or because of his opponent, he just gets so mad he'll start bashing his head or something

+ Bronwyn and Curley headcanons

(For those who don't know, Bronwyn is my omam oc, you can find information about her here and here, but all you need to know for this is that she's Curley's younger sister.)

Bronwyn walks very silently. Very conscious of her footsteps.

She suffers from undiagnosed psychosis (hallucinations, delusions, disorganised thinking, tangential thinking), attachment issues, occasionally seizures, anxiety issues, etc.

Inherited all her mental disorders from her mother's side. Her mother also suffered from various undiagnosed mental disorders and killed herself as a result of her condition rapidly worsening with no treatment

Bronwyn still thinks so highly of Curley despite how awfully he treats her as she only ever remembers when they were younger and when they were each other's best friends. When someone speaks badly about Curley, she'll always defend him. Curley believes that Bronwyn is a worthless burden who brings down his image and the reputation of the family, making him feel embarrassed and that he's weaker somehow for having a mentally ill sister.

Curley blames Bronwyn for their mother's death, believing that Bronwyn was born sick and that their mother 'caught' her illness.

Their mother was emotionally abusive, and their father, the boss of the ranch, is quite neglectful of them both. Neither Curley nor Bronwyn realise just how awful their mother treated them both, yet neither talk about her.

Curley secretly adored his mother. Bronwyn secretly resents her but can't put a finger on why. She tried to draw her mother once and the paper she used was just covered in nothing but dark scribbles.

When she and Curley get into fights they often get physical and violent. Bronwyn only learnt to fight from Curley because in the middle of fighting he'd be so pissed off that she couldn't fight properly and be like 'that's not how you throw a punch. quit embarrassing yourself, I'll show you how it's done. now you try.' and accidentally ended up teaching her to fight at his level.

When the boss would intervene with their fights, he'd observe and blame whoever caused the most damage. Curley often got the blame the most because he'd let his anger get the best of him.

Lennie used to be very affectionate and would hug George a lot but George would get mad so Lennie stopped (which made him love animals even more, because they can’t tell him to go away)

Curley’s wife really enjoys singing so sometimes when she’s alone (which is quite often) she’ll pretend to sing for an audience

George is bisexual and didn’t find out until he met Slim, who is probably gay or something

Lennie once accidentally broke a plate when he was little and he still feels bad about it sometimes, George is confused that he can remember THAT but not who Aunt Clara was

Curley would do absolutely fucking anything someone tells him if they end the sentence with something along the lines of “Unless you’re too scared” because he’s so desperate to prove himself

I’m so sorry but George would totally unironically think that the “hawk tuah spit on that thang” meme is funny

Crooks is a cat person and when he was little it was his dream to have a pet cat named Junebug

Post-canon, Crooks found a kitten in the stables and raised her. When she had kittens, Candy was given one.

Whit and Bill Tenner are penpals, writing to eachother ever since Bill left. They sometimes flirt with eactother in the letters.

George knows every constellation in the sky

Curley like writing poetry, but keeps it a secret as he doesn't want anyone to read it.

Candy, George and Slim sometimes go fishing together

Lennie would be obsessed with warrior cats.

How? Why? I guess Lucy sent it to them, or they found it in the deluge wreck or something, but why hasn't Otto opened it after 20+ years.

My guess on what happened:

Early into Lucy's role as Grulovia's war minister, she recived this package from the Gzar, seen on the package as being for 'good work'.

However, due to it looking clearly like a bomb, she sent it to Otto to investigate, and of course he would have told Ford. However, Otto put it off out of stress and procrastination. Ford kept bugging him about it, but they secretly both dredded opening it. Due to the Deluge, it was never opened.

Now, 20 years later, Otto still can't bring himself to open it, the package instead just sitting there to remind him of who he lost.

Seriously, I need more info about otto, i beg for double fine to eventually make ottos mind lol

yk i really get a kick out of kinda shipping george x slim but its one sided

my headcanons for the two are SO specific tho

i imagine that george would develop a slight crush on slim and start questioning his sexuality (bisexual baddie 😻)

and its not a massive crush either like slim isnt the love of his life or anything yk he can live without him

he just gets a little nervous sometimes when slim enters the room

or maybe he gets butterflies in the stomach when slim compliments him

I am currently going crazy about of mice and men and the fandom is basically nonexistent, so i have had to make my own entertainment.

i have calculated the mean heights of most of the characters using the actor heights from the 3 films and the 1974 + 1987 broardway productions. help me why is my brain not focusing on useful stuff hjdhk

anyway, here is the data (rounded to the nearest half inch):

George = 5'5.5

Lennie = 6'2.5

Curley = 5'6.5

Slim = 6'1

Candy = 5'8.5

Curley's wife: 5'4.5

Crooks = 5'9

Whit = 5'10

Carlson = 5'7.5

btw the height for Crooks is inaccurate as i could only find the height of one of his actors.
