A lot of the bigotry that mono exclusbians regurgitate from white cisallo lesbians is riddled with biphobic & transmisogynisitc belief. And yes, while this isn’t a new take, I do wish they would take a step back and fully analyze where their anger is coming from when it comes to mspec lesbian people.
They insist that we “imply a sexuality cannot exist where non-men love non-men”, and while that definition is wonky on its own, it perfectly portrays their completely biphobic and incorrect view of multi-spectrum attraction and bi/pan/poly/omni people.
If you hear the word “mspec” and immediately think of ‘attraction to men’, that is a problem.
If you hear the word “mspec” and immediately think of ‘attraction to women’, that is a problem.
If you hear the word “mspec” and immediately think of ‘attraction to men and women’, that is a problem.
When we talk about breaking biphobic stereotypes and ripping ourselves from the constraints of the binary, this is what we refer to. Read the bisexual manifesto. Do not assume that we are based around “two genders”. Do not assume there are two genders. Do not assume men and women are the foundation of bisexuality, and that to be bisexual you /must/ be attracted to either or both.
Fluid sexuality exists, and sexualities where preferences or lack of certain attraction exist. By assuming mspec lesbians exist only to try and “include men in a sexuality that does not involve them”, completely glosses over lesbianism and its history with transmisogyn(oir), bisexual lesbians who have taken part and fully participated in the foundations and advancements of lesbian diversity, and forgets mspec lesbians who are not attracted to men.
And even if all or most mspec lesbians were attracted to men, who cares?
Pushing away those affiliated with men, bisexual or not, lesbian or not, trans or not, is the result of political lesbianism and lesbian separatism, a dangerous and violent movement.
The reason you are threatened by the idea of being in the same community as mspec lesbians is the same reason bisexuals were shoved from lesbian protests, marches, clubs, communities, and spaces.
The reason you are threatened by the idea of being in the same community as mspec lesbians is the same reason trans women were shoved from lesbian protests, marches, clubs, communities, and spaces.
Bisexuals were seen as traitors, women (and even bisexuals who were not women) who sucked up to the patriarchy and could never be radical enough to end “male supremacy” as long as they continued to have relations with men.
The myth of “men infiltrating lesbian spaces” was a transmisogynistic dogwhistle used to promote harassment, violence, and drastic exclusion of transfems from sapphic and lesbian circles. We were the “males” who reigned “supreme”.
Even lesbians who had previously been affiliated with men through personal, romantic, or sexual relations were tossed out.
Gold star lesbianism, political lesbianism, lesbian separatism, TERF dogwhistles—so many different ways to describe the same thing; they are tools to oppress marginalized peoples and harm trans women (especially those who are gender-nonconforming, non-passing, and black & brown).
If you are so bothered by mspec lesbians and “our huge insane scary attraction to men!!!!”, maybe ponder on who or what made you think this way. Because it may just be a reflection of what you think of bi/pan/poly/omni sapphics & trans people as a whole.
If you are threatened by sharing a community with us, you are also threatened by sharing a community with trans & bisexual people. In your eyes, anyone close to men is a traitor or anyone being close to what they presume a man is is inherently evil and predatory.
No matter how many times you yell “just use the sapphic label”, it will not stop you mono exclusbians from being extremely bigoted towards people you claim to be similar to.
The sapphic community is dominated by people who think they are “more sapphic” and “more pure” than mspec sapphics. This is a problem. You are the problem.
We will always be “other” to you.
