To ensure job satisfaction and success in the company, having a good working relationship with your supervisors and managers is important, particularly in the corporate hierarchy of BPO Philippines. Here are some ways to start work in a good way with your supervisor.

I. Observe and Learn  During your first few weeks in the company, the important thing is to observe the company culture and your boss closely.

Until you understand the company culture well, best to keep a low profile and opinions are to be shared carefully, until you know what's acceptable and not acceptable for the people and the company, especially by your boss.

Something as simple as asking intelligent questions will make a difference in how your boss perceives you as an employee. It's always better to ask first and clarify details than take charge and go completely in the wrong direction.

II. Be a Professional Strive to appear and behave professionally.

Appearance is just as important as your skills set and attitude to work. When you observe your boss and company culture, take note on how they dress and behave.

Being new at the job, and if you want to remain in your job because you do enjoy it or need it, a little professional conformity can go a long way for you.

Part of the professional package is courtesy and pleasantness. If you're courteous and easy to work with, you'll rack up positive points not just with your officemates but also your boss.

Making your boss look good by the good work you do is the surest way to develop a solid professional relationship that can reward you.

V. Keep your Boss Informed Being the new guy, it's up to you to establish and maintain the lines of communication between you and your boss.

And it will be to your benefit in keeping your boss updated on what you're working on and what you've accomplished. Use either e-mail, instant messenger or the occasional office visit, make sure your boss knows what are you working on, what have you finished, and the results and what other ways you can offer your skills and services to your boss.

RESPECT. Deserve. Earn. Share.

Respect: Deserve it, Earn it and Share it. Do you ever feel undervalued, or disrespected, by your boss and co-workers at your work? Like you're being passed all  the unwanted tasks to complete, without any assistance or appreciation? Do you feel that you're treated like that every day? 

In the face of such mistreatment, you shouldn't remain meek. There are ways you can improve your situation, how others see and treat you.

Lose the Victim Attitude If you're being mistreated or disrespected on a daily basis, you are partly responsible for your current situation, at least by allowing it. Take time to self-evaluate yourself and identify your own behavior and habits that allowed people to belittle and take advantage of you... are you too nice, can't say no, too timid...? By identifying the possible causes, you can start changing for the better by these behaviors.

Speak Up, Loud and Clear If you think keeping the peace is important, good for you but if you keep silent where you feel you should have a say in something, you'll lose all chance of creating a 'presence' and without presence, you won't have influence. If you think you can contribute to a discussion or believe your opinion on a matter is of importance, valid and worth hearing, speak up and let your voice be heard. Make your presence felt.

Keep Credit when Credit is due You Respect begins from within. For others to respect you, you should first feel that you deserve respect, at least for the good work that you do. Ensure that everyone is well aware of your activities, ideas and contributions to any project via status/progress reports emailed to the group. If others have been claiming credit for your ideas, speak privately to them in regards to this matter.

"No" is a useful word. Use it. If you can't seem to say "NO" to requests for favors, start putting the word back on your daily vocabulary and practice. A little assertiveness can be a BIG help for you and your career. If you feel troubled saying "No", then you can decline in a kind, polite manner. You can say, "I really want to help but I've been assigned by the boss to focus on this project until it's completed to his satisfaction. I don't want to disappoint him."

Avoid Being Taken Advantage Of If you allowed coworkers to take advantage of you, it's most likely they will make it a habit if you allow it. To best avoid this, you must position yourself against routine requests by being too busy to be bothered. Be on the move, don't seem like you're not doing anything. Even during breaks, always carry a folder or reading through reports. Even if you aren't busy, you must busy, as if you're on a deadline.

Ask Help from the Top If the mistreatment, disrespect persists, try talking to your boss for counsel and assistance in regards to this matter. Perhaps your boss can improve your situation by acknowledging your presence with praise, treating you better publicly or assigning you on a project you can handle with some authority. Just remember to be diplomatic and tactful about sharing your situation with your boss, you don't want to point fingers and list down names. It is important to gain friendly recognition, respect and not envious enemies.

When All else Fails, Time to move on. You done all you could to establish your presence, preserve influence and dignity but your boss, colleagues or workplace are still treating you like a multi-tasking appliance rather than a human being. At this point in time, you may want to consider looking for a new job, and a new workplace, where possibly you may find the right people to work with.  This can trigger an alarm in your present workplace if they do realize your value as a worker and co-employee, but if not this is your chance to finally get from where you can be fulfilled positively professionally and socially.

Globe, Aegis set up Cebuano/Bisaya call center

Cebu, BPO Philippines. To provide personalized, quality customer service for its massive subscriber bases in the Visayas and Mindanao, Globe Telecom sets up the very first Bisaya-speaking call center with Aegis Philippines. T

he call center company Aegis will initially designate at least 50 agents to serve Globe’s customers in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The Visayan language is a widely spoken language in the country. Over 20 million Filipinos speak the language not only in various provinces in Southern Philippines, but also in many Filipino communities around the world.

This development is just part of the Globe Telecom's drive to make their subscribers’ the center of their business, by “speaking the language, and listening to them.”

Globe is the first telecom firm in the Philippines to require this particular service.

With the launch of this trilingual option, subscribers can converse with Globe easily in their vernacular of choice. If customers so prefer, they can have access to Globe/TM sales and after-sales services to inquire about any Globe mobile, landline or broadband services for sales, care or tech concerns through a dedicated Visayan Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS).

By following the self-service IVRS voice prompts (in Visayan) callers are dedicated to a Visayan-speaking customer service representative based in Cebu.

Again, the service is part of the company’s thrust to constantly innovate by giving customers choices to make their Globe experience more personal. As of December 2011, the Southern Philippines revenue contribution to Globe grew by seven percent. In the same period, subscriber-base rose to 18 percent.

Aside from establishing the “trilingual” (Bisaya/English/Filipino) customer service, Globe also spends several million dollars worth to over-haul its network infrastructure in Cebu; as all base-stations will be re-placed with brand new equipment to provide better speed and service in both mobile and broadband services for BPO Philippines.

This investment is part of the company’s allocated US$790 million capital expenditure which started last year until 2013.

Cebu, a growing Hub for Mobile Apps Development

Cebu's academe sector aims to forge the province as a center for mobile applications development, believing this skills niche is an competitive advantage in bringing more investors and better employment for Cebu's IT graduates.

Mobile technology is fast becoming ever-present, the potential is huge for the Philippines.

Cebu Educational Development for Information Technology (CEDFIT) reports that collaborated works among Cebu's universities and colleges identify each respective niche in mobile applications and platforms, as iOS, Android and similar mobile software are now popular in the mainstream market.

Thus, universities in Cebu are now actively pushing for more studies into Android platform and applications. One of the most prominent is the University of San Jose Recoletos which at present, is doing research project in Sugar CRM (Customer Relationship Management), using Android.

According to the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) College of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT)-- compared to other mobile platforms, Android is considered most cost efficient.

Android-based products and services are also secure and can be designed beyond basic mobile applications, using the open source gateway. As other colleges and universities are developing their own niche, Cebu will be able to take off in its bid to become a leader in mobile applications development in the Philippines.

Globe Telecom, and other mobile, and technology companies are partnering with Cebu's universities to design and develop mobile applications that are uniquely for the Philippines.

This is a training opportunity for students to be introduced to the industry trends in the fast moving technology development.

Earlier this year, Nokia introduces "Xtreme Java: National School Mobile App Development Challenge", inviting students to showcase their innovations in mobile applications.

In Cebu, Nokia is in talks with two universities to discover Cebuano-developed innovative mobile apps that have potential for commercialization for Nokia’s Symbian-based platform and Windows, Q+ for Symbian, Java and Web apps for S40.

March is fast approaching and soon, there will be a new batch of young adults joining the world of jobs and employment.

Achieve Independence When working, you will learn how to live practically by yourself. Especially if you work in the night shift, by the time you get home, everyone in your household would have for class or day job. 

When this happens you will soon realize that you will have to take care of your own needs, cook and clean for yourself.  As you strive to adjust to your schedule, you can become independent and self-serving. 

Learn to Budget/spend wisely One of the greatest lessons one can learned when one is receiving own earnings/salary is to appreciate the value of money and to respect the habit of setting an amount aside as savings.

Though there are temptations to spend on unnecessary things and activities, it is to be hoped that Life can teach you which things are worth spending for (like family, for the future) and you will be open to heed such lessons without experiencing the harsh consequences of mounting bills.

CUT DOWN YOUR COMMUTE 

Commuting could be everyone's least favorite daily activity, especially when caught in the morning, noon and evening traffic rush. If it's safe and possible, walk or bike to work. You'll get daily exercise, and be more alert when you start your day.

You can do something that's the best of both worlds. Don't get stuck waiting for your commute to start, walk a couple of blocks to where you know there won't be any competition to get seats. Then if your office is in a heavy traffic area, drop off at a stop that's convenient and walk all the way in.

SOCIALIZE AT WORK Though there's could be nothing stopping you to skip out of the office at 5 PM, it can be beneficial if you stay to socialize with your co-workers.

Socializing at work can also mean sharing lunch or snacks, chatting between cubicles when allowed, or even communicating through email.

Primates, like chimpanzees, spend at least an hour a day for social activities. Humans being social animals require the same amount of time to be healthy.

Studies have shown that people who experience at least 7 hours a day in positive social activity at work or with family and friends tend to feel/be happier and more fulfilled in life.

GO CLUBBING Join a club in the office or outside, engage in team sports or enjoy a new hobby that lets you connect with others, especially with your colleagues/officemates.

Enjoying a group activity can gain you more happiness gain. Humans are evolved social creatures, we are happier when we're interacting with other people of similar interests or shared backgrounds. Becoming part of a group at work will boost your interests and talents and build happy social ties

GET AWAY FROM WORK

When the weekends, vacation time or the holidays come, make the most of it not worrying about work or spending it in the office.

When you gossip or excessively criticize co-workers, bosses, competitors in public, this negative behavior will bring you trouble as you 'damage' others, you're only damaging yourself. Since industries are tightly knit, everyone knows everyone, so its can actually easy to point out who said what about who.  

Remember Proverbs 11:12-13 "A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue. A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret."

Burning bridges When you leave a job for a new opportunity, give a proper notice or resignation as well as adequate time and assistance to locate and train your replacement. Don’t leave a mess behind that someone else has to clean up. Be responsible or there will be consequences to face.

Job Fairs: How to Best Prepare

Looking for a job these days is very competitive in BPO Philippines, especially if the company you want to work for is known for giving great salaries and compensation.

You'll not be competing against 1 or 2 other people for the job but perhaps against dozens especially if you're looking employment quickly by attending a job fair.

A job fair, also known as a career expo/exposition, is an event for employers and recruiters to meet with prospective job seekers. Usually held in campuses, public venues like trade halls or sports complexes or at the company premises; a job fair features company or organization tables or booths where resumes can be submitted and on-the-spot interviews can be conducted.

Sponsored by companies and career centers, job fairs provide a convenient location for jobseekers to meet employers and perform first interviews. Job fairs are good places to meet company representatives during a short period of time. Networking at job fairs includes interacting with, obtaining contact details of, and getting to know corporate recruiters.

To attend a job fair, you have to be prepared as if you're going straight and serious to a job interview. Preparation and right attitude is essential to a successful job fair experience.

1. Prepare the requirements. Bring several copies of your updated resume, portfolios of your sample works, and business cards if you have some prepared.

Also, be ready with a pen and a notepad for filling up application forms and taking down contact details of companies you want to look up on later.

2. Plan ahead. Especially if the job fair is just a one-day event, manage your time better with a plan.

Practice how you will interact with the people manning the booths. Straight introductions, strong handshakes and eye contact. Common courtesy et cetera.

Learn as much as you can from the information being handed out and don't be shy to ask questions. This way you show interest in the company, the recruitment process.
