Lord of the Flies - Ralph vs Jack
Ralph represents the groups civilization and order whereas Jack represents the savagery that is growing in each and every one of them. Although in the beginning the entire group is under Ralph’s rule, it eventually shifts to Jack, this is because of the savagery that has been growing from the very beginning has taken hold of the entirety of the boys, causing Jack to make an opposing group that most of the boys join.
Lord of the Flies - Simon
Simon is very close with nature, almost at a spiritual level. He takes walks during the night and just soaks in the jungle around and remains quite neutral between Jack and Ralph during the group. He is the only one who is contacted by the Lord of the Flies and the only one to truly discover what the beast was. However, on his way to explain what the beast truly was, they mistook him for it, and even when they discovered it was Simon, they still beat him to death. This represents the boys not wanted the idea of a beast to be ruined, so the “killed” the truth.
Lord of the Flies - Rescue
When the rescuer arrives, the perspective of the book is torn from looking through the eyes of boys that have been struggling to survive on an island battling each other and fending off a beast, and put into eyes that see children on the beach who have lost all means of civilization in a matter of a few days. To the naval man, its crazy that it only took that long for the boys to turn into what they are then,
Lord of the Flies - Fire
Keeping the fire going was Ralph’s main goal, he wanted the entire groups main goal to be getting rescued. However when Ralph is stripped of his leadership, the fire is forgotten, the only goal being to survive. What is ironic is Jack sets the forest on fire to smoke out and eventually kill Ralph, only for the fire to attract a naval man that rescues them,
Lord of the Flies - Piggy
Piggy was the most intelligent of the group and yet he was somehow constantly ignored and eventually murdered. Piggy had many rational ideas and thought about the island but the boys simply ignored him and moved on the their “better” ideas. I believe that if Piggy possessed leadership skills and had the figure of a leader, he easily would have become the groups leader and the book would have had a much happier ending.
TCW Overall
Overall I enjoyed the book, while it wasn't one of my favorites, it did resonate with me and I enjoyed the “Do I dare disturb the Universe?” Lesson. While the ending as I stated earlier could have been worked on (in my opinion) the majority of the book was well done and a great book to sit down and read. I would suggest it.

Aren’t these some snazzy looking dudes? To be honest, I imagined Leon pretty similar to this... Its easy too see these guys working together.
Chocolate War Ending
I personally disliked the ending of TCW, I felt like it was way to abrupt and did not give the readers the information that many were expecting to receive. The twist with the fight and everything was ok, but the fact that it ended with Jerry went to the hospital, Leon and Archie are bros and boom. Done. I wish we could have been told how Jerry felt about the situation, I know he said some stuff to Goober but that wasn't enough. I wanted to know how he felt afterwards and how the fight had an impact on him. I wanted to see him in a few years maybe and see jus how much his life has changed.
Ted Talk
Mark Pagel gave us an interesting way to view language and see how and why it became. He shows us just how important language is how it has allowed us to truly become the dominant species. He points out that most animals lack a very important trait, as well as many other things, known as social learning. Social learning allows the ability to develop and learn from others ideas rather than simply imitating or stealing them. Mark truly showed just how language has shaped how the world is today.
