"I thought about all of the things that everyone ever says to each other, and how everyone is going to die, whether it’s in a millisecond, or days, or months, or 76.5 years, if you were just born. Everything that’s born has to die, which means our lives are like skyscrapers. The smoke rises at different speeds, but they’re all on fire, and we’re all trapped."
Extremely loud and Incredibly Close was a very interesting book but I felt like it was more of a burden to read rather than actually enjoy. It was harder to jump from character to character in this novel then in The Things They Carried as well as the ending was a letdown in my opinion. I was hoping the key, the map of the park, or maybe the whole story was going to end in an interesting way, but that was not the case. It seemed to be a huge build up and then Foer just ended it.
